Saginaw Valley's Goforth, Wayne State's Defrain Land GLIAC Cross Country Athlete of the Week Accolades

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards after the first meets of the 2018 cross country season. Wayne State freshman Ashley Defrain captured GLIAC Athlete of the Week honors on the women's side, while Saginaw Valley State senior Tom Goforth garnered the men's award after winning the Calvin Knight Invite.


WOMEN'S ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Ashley Defrain - Wayne State

Wayne State freshman Ashley Defrain helped Wayne State to a seventh-place team finish (out of the 25 teams with at least five runners) at the 2018 Calvin Knight 5K Invite with a second-place individual time of 18:16.2 (out of 287 runners). The week prior in her first collegiate meet, Defrain finished fourth at the Wolverine Twilight hosted by Michigan-Dearborn.


MEN'S ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Tom Goforth - Saginaw Valley

Saginaw Valley State senior Tom Goforth claimed the individual title at the 2018 Calvin Knight Invitational, crossing the line in a final time of 24:52.4 in the 8K race. Goforth, the 2016 all-american for Saginaw Valley, was just two seconds off his personal best time for an 8K cross country race and led the team to a second place finish in the event.
