GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly awards following the fifth weekend of the 2018 volleyball season. Michigan Tech sophomore outside hitter Olivia Ghormley earned GLIAC Volleyball North Division honors for the second time this year, while Ashland junior outside hitter Shelby Woycik captured South Division accolades for the third time this season.
NORTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Olivia Ghormley - Michigan Tech
Michigan Tech sophomore outside hitter Olivia Ghormley finished with 41 kills, 5.86 kills per set, and a hitting percentage of .320 as the Huskies went 2-0 against Davenport and Grand Valley State. Against Davenport, Ghromley put up 25 kills and a hitting percentage of .302 to lead her team to a 3-1 win over the Panthers. Against Grand Valley State the next day, Ghormley led all players with 16 kills and a .351 hitting percentage in a 3-0 sweep of the Lakers. Michigan Tech currently sits second in the North Division with a record of 12-3 overall and 6-1 in the GLIAC.
SOUTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Shelby Woycik - Ashland
Ashland junior outside hitter Shelby Woycik led the Eagles with 4.67 kills per set and hit .400 overall as AU swept through a pair of GLIAC opponents on the road last week. Woycik also averaged 2.5 digs and 0.5 blocks per set as she continued a run of five straight matches with double figure kill totals. She totaled 18 kills (6.00 per set, .438 hitting percentage) in a sweep of Purdue Northwest on Friday, while adding eight digs, two aces and two blocks. Woycik racked up 10 kills (.357) and seven digs in a 3-0 win at Parkside on Saturday. She ranks third in the GLIAC in kills per set (3.65) and kills (208). This is Woycik's third GLIAC South Player of the Week honor this season and fifth in her career.
