GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards after the second weekend of the 2019 women's soccer season. Ashland sophomore forward Faith Lewis earned GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week accolades, while Ferris State senior Alison Chesterfield claimed GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week honors for the second straight week.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Faith Lewis - Ashland
Lewis scored two goals and had an assist last week as the Eagles went 2-1 against Ohio teams on the road. Lewis scored the third goal in the 78th minute of Ashland’s 3-0 win at Tiffin last Tuesday. She hit a high arcing shot from just outside the area over the head of the Dragons’ keeper. On Sunday, her goal just before halftime gave the Eagles a 2-1 lead at Ohio Dominican, and she later assisted on the overtime goal scored by senior Deijah Swihart that gave the Eagles a 4-3 win.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Alison Chesterfield - Ferris State
Ferris State University senior goalkeeper Alison Chesterfield remained perfect in net as she stretched her shutout streak to 380 consecutive minutes to open the year with back-to-back wins on a long road trip. Chesterfield, who has yet to allow a goal this season, helped the Bulldogs to a 2-0 win at Minot State (ND) on Friday before closing the trip with a 1-0 triumph at Northern State (SD) on Sunday. She had four saves in Friday's outing while adding three more on Sunday for the #15 Bulldogs, who have now won three-straight outings. Chesterfield owns four shutouts this year and moved into a tie for third-place in school history with 10 career shutouts while also recording her 16th career victory on Sunday to move into fourth place in program history.
