BAY CITY, Mich. -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly women's soccer awards after the fourth weekend of competition. Grand Valley State junior forward Gabriella Mencotti earned GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week accolades, while her Laker teammate junior defender Shannon Quinn collected GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week honors.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Gabriella Mencotti, Grand Valley State
Grand Valley State junior forward Gabriella Mencotti scored three of the Lakers four goals over the weekend, including game-winning tallies against both Northern Michigan and Michigan Tech. Mencotti recorded two goals in the 3-0 win over Northern Michigan, including nine shots putting four on target before scoring the lone goal in the 13th minute of a 1-0 victory at Michigan Tech which included six shots with three of those on goal. Mencotti now leads the GLIAC in points (17) and is second in goals scored (six).
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Shannon Quinn, Grand Valley State
Grand Valley State junior defender led the Laker defense to a pair of shutout victories over the weekend against Northern Michigan and Michigan Tech. The Lakers allowed just two shots (one on goal) to the Wildcats on Friday and held the Huskies to seven total shots (two on goal) on Sunday. Grand Valley State now has six shutouts on the season and has not allowed a goal in over 380 minutes of game play.
