NEW ALBANY, Ohio - Grand Valley State University increased its lead to 17 strokes after the second round of the 2014 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) women's golf championship being held at the Winding Hollow Golf Club in New Albany, Ohio.
The Lakers made a 10-stroke improvement from their Round 1 scores, posting a team score of 313 on Saturday after recording a 323 total on Friday. GVSU sits in first place with a two-round total of 636 (+25), entering final round play.
Ashland University posted the best team round of the day, firing a 312 total to move into second place. The Eagles have a two-round total of 653 (+77).
Ferris State University is in third place after shooting a 323 on Saturday. The Bulldogs have a two-round total of 659 (+83).
Ohio Dominican University sophomore Jamie Ellison jumped into first place in the individual competition after postinga one-under-par round of 71 on Saturday. Her two round total of 149 (+5) is five strokes better than GVSU junior Kelly Hartigan, the reigning GLIAC Championship medalist, who sits in second with a two-round score of 154 (+10).
The final round of the 2014 GLIAC women's golf championship will begin at 8:00 a.m. on Sunday morning.
