EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Grand Valley State junior center Cassidy Boensch and Ashland junior guard/forward Jodi Johnson were named to the Division II Conference Commissioners Association Women's Basketball All-Midwest Region First Team.
Boensch (Au Gres, Mich.), who was also named Google Cloud First-Team Academic All-America and the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year, is averaging a double double of 20.0 points and 11.9 rebounds in her 30.6 minutes per game to lead the Lakers to their fourth straight NCAA Division II Midwest Region Tournament appearance and their first GLIAC Regular Season Title since 2005-06 after finishing 27-3 overall and 19-1 in conference action. She's also set a new program single season record for blocks with 94 rejections this season to go along with 51 assists and 28 steals.
Johnson (Wadsworth, Ohio), a third-team academic all-American in 2019 and the 2018 D2CCA Midwest Region Player of the Year and first-team all-region a season ago, is averaging 18.7 points, 7.3 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.5 steals per game this season, while making 58.5 percent from the floor, 34.0 percent from 3-point range, and 87.6 percent from the free-throw line.
GVSU junior guard Jenn DeBoer and Ashland junior forward Sara Loomis earned second-team honors.
DeBoer (Byron Center, Mich.), the Lakers starting point guard, is averaging 14.1 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game. She's been one of the country's best free throw shooters this season, knocking them down at an 89.1 percent clip (57-64). Always a threat from deep, she's nailed a team-high 54 threes.
Loomis (Malvern, Ohio) is averaging 15.4 points, 9.9 rebounds and 2.9 blocks per contest, while hitting 50.6 percent from the floor, 40.9 percent from beyond the arc and 89.5 percent from the charity stripe.
The region's player of the year was Hailey Diestelkamp from Drury.
Grand Valley begins regional play at 1 p.m. ET in Springfield, Ill., against Truman. Ashland plays Northern Michigan at 9:30 p.m. ET.
