MTU's Kelliher and GVSU's Boensch are named women's basketball players of the week for Week 12

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference has announced women's basketball player of the week honors for Week 12 of the 2018-19 season. Michigan Tech senior forward Elizabeth Kelliher was named GLIAC Women's Basketball North Division Player of the Week, while Grand Valley State junior center Cassidy Boensch captured South Division honors.

NORTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Elizabeth Kelliher - Michigan Tech

Senior Elizabeth Kelliher led the Huskies to a pair of key GLIAC wins this past week at Purdue Northwest and Parkside. Kelliher scored a season-high 21 points and had five blocked shots Thursday night during a 67-49 victory against the Pride. She followed with 17 points in another Tech victory (60-47) at Parkside. Kelliher converted 16-of-18 shots from the field for the week (88.9 percent) and was a perfect 8-for-8 from the floor at Purdue Northwest. Kelliher combined for 13 rebounds and had 9 blocked shots this past week as well. On the season, Kelliher is averaging 9.7 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 1.9 blocks per game. Kelliher is making over 57 percent of her shots from the field.

SOUTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Cassidy Boensch - Grand Valley State

Junior center Cassidy Boensch helped Grand Valley State to a 2-0 record over the weekend, including a 73-71 upset over No. 3 Ashland Saturday. She averaged 26.0 points and 14.5 rebounds per game to go along with 10 total blocks. Boensch scored 31 points and pulled down 13 rebounds during the Lakers' victory over Ashland while also tallying seven blocks. She scored 21 points, grabbed 16 rebounds and had three blocks in Friday's 78-50 win over Wayne State...In all, she shot 55.3 percent (21-of-38) from the field and a perfect 10-of-10 from the free throw line.
