GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly awards following Week 4 of the 2018-19 outdoor track and field season. Ashland's Ellie Jindra and Trevor Bassitt claimed the women's field and men's track awards, respectively. Michigan Tech's Liz Bloch was named women's track athlete of the week, and Ferris State's Cody Stilwell claimed men's field honors.
WOMEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Liz Bloch - Michigan Tech
Senior Liz Bloch (St. Clair Shores, Mich.) clocked a school-record 4:24.67 to place 10th in the women's 1,500-meter run at last weekend's Bison Outdoor Classic hosted by Bucknell. Bloch improved upon her provisional qualifying time. She ranks second in the GLIAC and fifth nationally in the 1,500.
WOMEN'S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Ellie Jindra - Ashland
Junior Ellie Jindra (Sunbury, Ohio) placed fifth in the women's high jump at the Tennessee Relays held Friday in Knoxville, Tenn. She cleared 1.73 meters (5-8), which improves her provisional qualifying mark. Jindra ranks first in the GLIAC and fifth nationally in the event.
MEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Trevor Bassitt - Ashland
Sophomore Trevor Bassitt (Lima, Ohio) won the men's 400-meter hurdles last Friday at the Tennessee Relays in Knoxville, Tenn. He crossed the finish line in :51.94 to improve his provisional qualifying time and set an outdoor personal record. He also placed fourth in the men's 110-meter hurdles in a wind-aided time of :13.88. Bassitt ranks third nationally in the 400 hurdles and eighth in the 110-meter hurdles.
MEN'S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Cody Stilwell - Ferris State
Senior Cody Stilwell (Cadillac, Mich.) won the men's hammer throw at last weekend's Hillsdale Invitational with a provisional qualifying distance of 60.06 meters. He ranks fourth in the GLIAC and 15th nationally in the event.
