INDIANAPOLIS -- The Wayne State men's 200-yard medley relay team of Dima Drobnych, Sasha Palazzo, Rasmus Olsen and Ryan Katulski recorded a second-place finish to lead Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference competitors at the NCAA Division II Swimming and Diving Championships, which began Wednesday at the IUPUI Natatorium.
The Warriors' foursome finished in 1:25.22, one one-hundredth of a second behind first-place Queens College. The relay shattered the GLIAC record of 1:26.28 it set three weeks ago in Cleveland.
Grand Valley State's Harry Shalamon placed fourth in the men's 200 individual medley in 1:46.57, while Northern Michigan's Ryan Leonard was seventh in 1:48.53. NMU's Rachel Helm was fifth in the women's 200 IM with a time of 2:01.07.
GVSU's Melina Goebel finished fifth in the women's 1,000 freestyle (9:56.92), and Wayne State's Ellie Dean was 10th (10:07.89).
GVSU's Christopher Kelly placed eighth in the men's 3-meter diving with 463.65 points.
The GVSU women's 200 medley relay team of Melina DeCort, Lara Deibel, Hannah Richard and Mercedez finished seventh in 1:42.60, while WSU's team of Ashlen Michalski, Jia Yi Koh, Haley Groeteler and Lezlie Bueno Estrada was eighth in 1:42.77.
The championships continue Thursday through Saturday in Indianapolis.
