GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly softball awards following Week 1 of the 2019 season. Ferris State senior shortstop/second baseman Logan Fleming earned GLIAC Softball Player of the Week honors, while Wayne State senior Megan Guitar captured Pitcher of the Week accolades.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Logan Fleming - Ferris State
Middle infielder Logan Fleming (Rogers City, Mich.) tallied a team-leading .643 average in FSU's opening four games of the season on Feb. 3-4 as the Bulldogs went 2-2 overall. Fleming notched seven RBI's with nine hits and two runs scored in 14 at-bats for the Bulldogs while compiling a .786 slugging percentage. She totaled three hits and drove in two runs in FSU's 9-1 season-opening win over Findlay. She added three hits and three RBI's in game one against Kentucky State on Feb. 4 before coming back with three hits and two RBI's in an 11-4 triumph in the nightcap the same day. Fleming notched three games with three hits and batted in at least two runs in three games of the four-game trip. She also had a stolen base and accounted for 11 total bases while notching a .929 fielding percentage.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK - Megan Guitar - Wayne State
Senior pitcher Megan Guitar (Croswell, Mich.) had a 2-1 record with one save in four appearances at the NFCA Leadoff Classic as the Warriors went 3-2 in the tournament, including a win over eighth-ranked West Chester. In a 1-0 season-opening win, Guitar pitched nine scoreless innings against WCU with 11 strikeouts. She tossed a complete-game victory over Indianapolis the next day with eight strikeouts to zero walks. After suffering a setback in relief on two unearned runs on day two, Guitar retired all nine batters she faced against Molloy to earn the save. For the weekend, she had a 0.34 ERA and 24 strikeouts to six walks in 20.2 innings, while allowing just 11 hits and three runs (one earned).
