It was a record-breaking day for senior Daniel Vanek at the Mike Lints Alumni Open in the Kelly Family Sports Center on Friday (Jan. 20). His throw of 19.09 meters (62'7.75") in the shot put was a GVSU and Kelly Family Sports Center record. The throw broke his own school record of 18.59 meters that he set last year while the Kelly Family Sports Center record he broke was only a week old, set last weekend by former Laker John Ybarra (19.00 meters). The throw was an NCAA Division II automatic qualifying mark for the defending national champion, and is the top throw in the country by nearly three feet.
