BAY CITY, Mich. - Wayne State University freshman Kristina Novichenko (Seversk, Russia) and sophomore Piotr Jachowicz (Lodz, Poland) were named Great Lake Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Women's and Men's Swimming & Diving "Athletes of the Week," respectively, for their efforts last weekend.

Kristina Novichenko - Wayne State University
Freshman - Seversk, Russia
In her first weekend of collegiate competition, Wayne State freshman Kristina Novichenko (Seversk, Russia) was spectacular. She won six individual events (three each day) while also swimming on a champion medley relay team.
In Friday's triangular at Bowling Green with Ashland, Novichenko took first place in the 200 fly (2:02.63), 100 fly (57.62), and 400 IM (4:28.30). She also swam the third leg of the second place 400 medley relay quartet.
In Saturday's dual meet at Division I Oakland, Novichenko won a trio of races in the 200 fly (2:02.68), 200 breast (2:22.70) and 100 fly (56.78), while also swimming the third leg of the champion 200 medley relay team.
GLIAC Men's Swimming & Diving Athlete of the Week:
Piotr Jachowicz - Wayne State University
Sophomore - Lodz, Poland
Wayne State sophomore Piotr Jachowicz (Lodz, Poland) began the 2012-13 campaign in fine fashion. In Friday's dual meet win over Ashland, Jachowicz won both the 100 breast (57.78) and 200 breast (2:09.90), was second (50.79) in the 100 fly, and was part of the first place 400 medley relay.
In Saturday's dual meet at Oakland University, Jachowicz was part of two champion relays (200 medley and 200 free) and won the 100 breast (55.61) and 200 IM (1:50.00) giving him four individual wins and three relay victories on the weekend.
