2015 All-GLIAC Men's Soccer Awards Announced

BAY CITY, Mich. – The 2015 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Men's Soccer awards have been announced after voting conducted by the league's coaches.

Saginaw Valley State senior forward Tyler Channell
earns his second GLIAC Offensive Player of the Year honor (2013) after posting a sensational regular season for the Cardinals in 2015.  The Troy, Michigan native capped his regular season by racking-up 50 points; totaling 18 goals and 14 assists for SVSU. His 50 points led the nation and his 14 assists put him as fourth in that category. His 18 goals ranked him third in the nation as well. He led the GLIAC in points and assists and was second in the goals category and was selected as the Offensive Player of the Week four straight times to start the season. Channell now owns the SVSU records for career points (104), career goals (38), game-winning goals (10), assists (28), points in a season and assists in a season.

Lake Erie senior Joseph Coombs
earned GLIAC Defender of the Year after a solid senior campaign.  Coombs anchored the Storm defense throughout the season.  The defense posted four shutouts and allowed just one goal in three other games.  Coombs was named GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week once this season.  Aside from his offensive premise, Coombs scored two goals, including the gamewinner against Walsh University at home.

Findlay freshman forward Michael Shaikly
ended his first season as an Oiler with three goals and a team-high seven assists, the fourth-best total in the GLIAC. He finished the year with 13 total points and also chipped in a pair of game-winning goals.

Johannes Sterobo
posted a record-breaking season for the Timberwolves en route to Northwood's first-ever GLIAC Championship. On the season, Sterobo leads the GLIAC in save percentage (.855), goals against average (0.51), shutouts (10) and wins (14). He allowed just eight goals throughout the year, which was instrumental to the team's 14-1-1 record. Sterobo holds eight Northwood goalkeeping records, including career wins (42), shutouts (26) and save percentage (.758).

First-year head coach Andy Wagstaff led Saginaw Valley State to an overall record of 14-3-0 with a 12-2-0 mark in GLIAC play during the 2015 campaign. His team finished runner-up in the GLIAC regular season, as SVSU led the league with 65 goals, 52 assists and a .224 shot percentage. The Cards were second in the goals against average category, allowing one goal per contest. SVSU had the league's top two goal and point scorers and the top pair in assists as well. Saginaw Valley was second in the nation in goals, assists, scoring offense, points and points per game. The team's 14 victories and three losses match last season's marks for regular season totals, both marking the second-best figures in the program's history.
