BAY CITY, Mich. - The fields for the 2011 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) men's and women's soccer tournaments are set as regular season play finished on Sunday (Oct. 30). Saginaw Valley State University will carry the No. 1 seed in the men's tournament, while Grand Valley State University earned the top seed in the women's tournament.
Saginaw Valley State will host the GLIAC men's soccer tournament having claimed the 2011 GLIAC title after posting the best conference record this season. No. 2 seed, Ohio Dominican University, will face third-seeded Northwood University in Semifinal #1 at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 3 at the SVSU Soccer Complex. That match will be followed by Semifinal #2 in which the host Cardinals will face the No. 4 seed, Tiffin University, at 2:30 p.m. The 2011 All-GLIAC men's soccer teams will be announced between the semifinal matches.
The tournament final will be played at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 5 at the SVSU Soccer Complex.
The 2011 GLIAC women's soccer tournament will get underway on on Tuesday, Nov. 1 when the two quarterfinal matches are played on campus sites. No. 3 seed Ashland University will host sixth-seeded Ferris State University, while No. 4 Northern Michigan University welcomes Tiffin University, the No. 5 seed. Both matches a slated to begin at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
Grand Valley State earned a bye in the first round and the right to host the final four by winning the North Division title and having the best conference record in 2011. Ohio Dominican claimed the GLIAC South Division crown and will be the No. 2 seed in the tournament, also earning a first-round bye.
Ohio Dominican will play the winner of the Ashland/Ferris State match on Friday, Nov. 4 at 4:30 p.m. at the GVSU Soccer Field. The Lakers will play the winner of the Northern Michigan/Tiffin tilt on Friday at 7:00 p.m. The 2011 All-GLIAC women's soccer teams will be announced between the semifinal matches.
The women's tournament final will be played at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 6 at the GVSU Soccer Field.
