BATTLE CREEK - Grand Valley State's Alex Scott was 4-under Saturday and 5-under for the tournament, and claimed medalist honors at the 2019 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men's Golf Championships held Friday and Saturday at Bedford Valley Golf Club.
Scott shot a 71-68--139 to edge Ashland's Austin Kondratick by three strokes. He opened the back nine Saturday with a bogey, but birdied Nos. 15, 16 and 17 to take command.
In addition to Kondratick (71-71--142), the individual top five also included Northern Michigan's Austin Elsner (72-71--143), Ashland's Benjamin Jones (71-72--143) and Wayne State's Brendan Seys (72-72--144).
Ashland claimed the No. 1 seed and will play No. 4 Wayne State in Sunday's 18-hole head-to-head medal play semifinals, which begin at 8:30 a.m. No. 2 Grand Valley and No. 3 Ferris State will play in the other semifinal. The winners will advance to Sunday afternoon's finals and compete for the GLIAC team title.
