Lake State's Williams, Ashland's Davis Capture GLIAC Player of the Week Honors

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly men's basketball awards following the final week of the 2017-18 regular season. Lake Superior State senior guard Akaemji Williams earned GLIAC Men's Basketball North Division honors for the fourth time this year, while Ashland redshirt senior Wendell Davis captured South Division accolades for the eighth time this season.

NORTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Akaemji Williams, Lake Superior State

Lake Superior State senior guard Akaemji Williams guided the Lakers to a 2-0 week to close out the regular season with a pair of victories over Grand Valley State and Purdue Northwest to enter the GLIAC Tournament as the No. 2 seed. Akaemji averaged 24.0 points, 8.5 assists, 5.5 rebounds and 4.0 steals per contest last week while shooting 51.5 percent from the field and 84.6 percent from the foul line. Williams posted a double-double on Saturday (Feb. 24) as he tallied 26 points and 11 assists in the win over PNW.

SOUTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Wendell Davis, Ashland

Ashland redshirt senior Wendell Davis averaged 28 points, 3.5 assists, 2.5 rebounds, one steal and block per game to lead Ashland to a 2-0 record last week. He shot 62 percent (21-for-34) from the field, 46 percent (5-for-11) from 3-point range and 82 percent (9-for-11) from the line to continue his exceptional efficiency this season. Davis scored 23 points to go with five boards, four assists, two blocks and two steals in an 82-64 win over Saginaw Valley State on Thursday. He tacked on 33 points in an 81-57 win over Northwood on Saturday, tying a career high with 13 field goals and sinking five 3-pointers. Davis ranks in the top 10 in the GLIAC in scoring, rebounding, assists, field goal percentage, free throw percentage, 3-point percentage, 3-pointers made (leads GLIAC) and minutes played
