No. 2 Ferris State survived a scare from Wayne State in a 38-28 victory in Big Rapids to clinch at least a share of the 2018 GLIAC title. FSU quarterback Jayru Campbell threw for 224 yards and rushed for 103 yards and a combined five touchdowns as the Bulldogs racked up 502 yards of offense. WSU running back James Hill found paydirt twice, while wide receiver Darece Roberson totaled five receptions for 134 yards and one score in defeat.
No. 9 Grand Valley State intercepted a hail mary attempt from Saginaw Valley in the endzone to stave off a late run by the Cardinals. SVSU scored 22 points in the fourth quarter to fall just short as GVSU improved to 8-1 on the year after a 31-28 victory in the Battle of the Valleys. GVSU running back Jack Provencher rushed for 106 yards and a touchdown, while quarterback Cole Kotopka passed for 200 yards and rushed for two touchdowns in the win. SVSU running back Nate McCrary registered 22 carries for 94 yards and two TDs in the loss.
Michigan Tech defeated Northern Michigan, 35-33, in another exciting edition of the annual Miner's Cup. The Huskies came back from an early 14-0 deficit to take a 35-21 lead before NMU stormed back late to fall by two. Tech running back Jared Smith carried 25 times for 175 yards and a touchdown, while WR Ben Hartley caught 12 passes for 114 yards and a score. The Wildcats rushed for 390 yards and five TDs in the contest, highlighted by Jake Mayon's 195 yards and a TD along with Isiah Wright who rushed for 116 yards and found the endzone three times.
Ashland's defense showed up in impressive fashion on Saturday on the road at Davenport in a convincing 31-6 victory. The Eagles held DU to 149 yards of total offense and received 106 rushing yards and a touchdown from running back Luke Ogi in the victory.
