BAY CITY, Mich. -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly baseball awards following week ten of the 2017 campaign. Ohio Dominican junior Lee Sponseller earned GLIAC Baseball Player of the Week honors, while Northwood junior Tyler Jandron captured Pitcher of the Week accolades.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Lee Sponseller - Ohio Dominican
Ohio Dominican junior Lee Sponseller hit in all eight games this week with three home runs, six RBI, and also walked eight times...Batted .481 with a .600 OBP while still slugging .815...Helped lead ODU to a four-game sweep against Findlay by going 9-of-14 (.643) with three walks over the weekend (.706 OBP), swatting three home runs as well...In 22 GLIAC games, is batting .467 with 11 home runs and 28 RBIs, with a .582 OBP and a .987 slugging percentage...Leads GLIAC in walks, is second in OBP and slugging, third in homers and 10th in batting average.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK - Tyler Jandron - Northwood
Northwood junior Tyler Jandron moved to 9-0 on the year with a complete game shutout victory over Walsh. He allowed six hits, all of which were singles over seven innings of work against Walsh. Jandron struck out seven and walked one, holding the Cavaliers off the board one game after they had scored 28 runs. The win gave Northwood first place alone in the GLIAC. Jandron currently leads the GLIAC in wins while ranking second in the league in ERA (2.58).
