Parkside softball is set to open the 2019 season on Saturday, Feb. 2 in St. Cloud, Minn. The Rangers, with third year head coach Kristin Ortman (40-56 career record) at the helm, had their highest win total since the 2010 season in 2018, going 21-27.
On the mound, the Rangers return over 98-percent of their innings pitched with sophomore Alyssa Hrncar, junior Allison Hausl and sophomore Kate Czoschke. Hrncar finished 13-9 last season and led the team in wins, innings pitched (153.1), ERA (3.42), complete games (21) and saves (2). Hausl finished 7-15 with a 4.80 ERA in 128.1 innings pitched while leading the team in strikeouts with 54.
Offensively, Parkside returns four of its top six hitters from last season, including senior Kellie Fenza, who was second on the team in batting average (.319), hits (51), runs (27), RBI (25) and stolen bases (18). She led the team in slugging percentage (.438). Along with Fenza, Morgan Sikon returns after hitting .286 with seven doubles and 18 RBI and Megan Aliverti is coming off a team-leading 34 RBI season where she hit .281.
Parkside opened the 2019 season up in St. Cloud, Minn., for four games and will head to Bentonville, Ark., for six games from Feb. 15 to 17. The GLIAC season opens up on March 20 as the Rangers travel to Davenport. Parkside's first home game is scheduled for March 23 against Purdue Northwest while April features eight home dates for the Rangers.
