Ashland University
Eagles
  The #12 Ashland University went 1-1 last week, with a 3-1 win over Findlay in the opening round of the GLIAC tournament and a 3-1 loss to Hillsdale in the GLIAC semifinals. AU faced both teams in the same rounds of last year’s tourney, sweeping both the Oilers and Chargers in 2006. Ashland’s 26 victories are tied for fourth most in school history; the Eagles also won 26 matches in 2004. The school record for most victories is 29 in 1990 and in 1991. Ashland also won 27 matches in 1981. It was also AU’s fourth straight trip to the GLIAC Final Four. The Eagles defeated Findlay for the third time this season in the opening round – it was the third time AU beat UF by a 3-1 score this year. In the win over the Oilers, Ashland had four players with 10+ kills. Senior outside hitter Mary Kate Glowe (Avon Lake, OH/Magnificat) tallied 18 kills and 28 digs, sophomore middle hitter Amanda Stefanski (Independence, OH) added 16 kills, 5 digs, and 5 blocks, sophomore middle hitter Britney Jurchenko (Lakewood, OH) supplied 15 kills, 6 digs, and 5 blocks, and sophomore outside hitter Marina Santos (San Paula, Brazil/Copley) provided 13 kills and 15 digs. AU fell to 0-3 this year against Hillsdale and loss its first four-game match of the year. Previously, Ashland was 8-0 in four-game matches. Glowe totaled 22 kills and 22 digs, while Santos added 19 kills and 15 digs. Senior setter Lynsey Warren (Worthington, OH/Bishop Watterson) provided 104 assists and 33 digs over the weekend. Glowe and Warren were named to the All-GLIAC first team; it is the third time for each player to be named to the first team. Stefanski was a second-team all-conference selection, while Jurchenko earned honorable mention laurels. The Eagles, seeded 7th in the NCAA regional playoffs, take on #2 Lewis at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday at Grand Valley State. Ashland is 9-8 against Lewis all-time and it is AU’s fourth straight appearance in the NCAA playoffs. The Eagles defeated Lewis in 2006, 3-0 (30-25, 30-23, 30-18) at the West Florida Invitational, and have won the last four meetings overall between the two schools.

Bulldogs
  Senior outside hitter Lindsay Tye (Gregory/Chelsea) concluded her four-year (2004-07) career ranking 13th among the program’s career leaders in kills (1,143) while tying for 14th place in service aces (136) and placing 19th in digs (814). Tye, who competed in 109 career matches, registered career single-season bests in kills (488), hitting percentage (.296) and block solos (five) in 30 matches this campaign... Senior libero-outside hitter Jamie Palazzolo (Emmett/Yale) registered her 28th consecutive double-digit digs match performance of this season with 15 total in the Bulldogs’ season finale at Northern Michigan (11/7). Palazzolo, who garnered double-figure digs in 28 of the squad’s 30 matches this campaign, finished with 1,290 career digs in 116 matches to place seventh on FSU’s all-time leaders list and was 14 shy of tying Stephanie Chaffin’s (1989-92) sixth-place 1,304 career digs total... Ferris State’s top two kills leaders this season, Lindsay Tye and sophomore middle hitter Kristy Gilchrist (Macomb/Anchor Bay) combined for 49.5% (824-1,663) of the team’s total kills production. Tye compiled a team-high and career season-best 488 kills while Gilchrist’s 336-kills total also represented a personal career single-season high. The pair also accounted for 36.2% (88-243) of the Bulldogs’ service aces this fall as Gilchrist served up a career season-best 48 aces while Tye generated 40 aces.

Oilers
  The University of Findlay Volleyball Team finished their season on November 7 when they were defeated by Ashland in the first round of the GLIAC tournament. The Oilers finished the season 19-14 and 8-9 in the conference. In the loss, senior outside hitter Mallory Fleming had a double-double with 17 kills and 11 digs. Fleming finished the season with 439 kills and her career with 1588 kills which ranks her 4th in the Findlay record book. Senior libero Courtney Miller had an outstanding last match by tallying 24 digs in the loss. Miller finished the season with 336 digs and was second on the team in service aces with 32.

Lakers
     Grand Valley State claimed its fourth GLIAC Tournament Championship title on Sunday, knocking off Hillsdale, 3-1...The Lakers also won the tournament in 2000, 2002, and 2005...Freshman middle blocker Rebecca Rapin and junior middle blocker Danielle Alexander were named to the GLIAC All-Tournament Team, while junior setter Jamie Ashmore was named the MVP...Grand Valley State has earned the #1 seed in the Great Lakes Region Tournament and the right to host...It marks the fifth time in eight years that the Lakers have hosted the tournament ... GVSU has made the Great Lakes Region Tournament eight straight times and won it five times (2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2005)...Grand Valley State will play #8 seed Charleston on Thursday, Nov. 15 at 7:30 p.m.

Chargers
   The Hillsdale College volleyball team played in its first-ever GLIAC tournament championship match Sunday, losing to host Grand Valley 3-1…The Chargers advanced to the match thanks to a 3-1 win over Ashland in the tournament semifinals Saturday…Hillsdale is 3-0 vs. Ashland this season and has won five straight regular season matches against the Eagles…Hillsdale qualified for the NCAA Division II regional tournament for the fourth year in a row…Hillsdale will face Indianapolis at 12 p.m. Thursday at Grand Valley in the first round of the regionals…The Chargers are 1-3 all-time in regional play with their only win coming last year over West Virginia State…Senior Melissa Bartlett was named the 2007 GLIAC Player of the Year Saturday, making her the second straight Hillsdale player to receive the honor…Taryn Rudland won it in 2006…Bartlett and Stephanie Booms were each named First-Team All-GLIAC, while sophomore Kittrick Smith and senior Megan Howard were named Second-Team All-GLIAC…Junior Jamie Murray was named honorable mention All-GLIAC…This is the second straight year Booms and Bartlett have been named to the First-Team…Booms and Bartlett were also named to the 2007 GLIAC All-Tournament team…Bartlett needs 17 kills to become Hillsdale’s single-season record holder in kills…Cassie Cole holds the current record with 638, set back in 1999…Howard has 154 service aces in her career, second-most in school history.

Michigan Technological University
Huskies
  Michigan Tech junior Kelsey Skoog finished with a team-high 16 digs and 22 assists as the Huskies fell at No. 7 Grand Valley State 3-0 (30-28, 30-24, 30-17) in the quarterfinals of the GLIAC Tournament... With the loss, the Huskies fell to 9-17... In game one, Michigan Tech tied the score at 28. The Huskies committed a critical service error and followed up with a block error as Grand Valley escaped with the 30-28 win. The Lakers also took games two and three for to complete the sweep... Kali Jeter, the lone Huskies senior playing in her final match, notched four kills, six digs, and two block assists. Ellen Sherry compiled an impressive .583 hitting percentage with eight kills and just one error on 12 attempts. Jen Jung totaled five block assists to help Michigan Tech to six total team blocks compaared to two by the Lakers...Michigan Tech’s 2007 season is now complete.

Wildcats
   NMU ended the season by defeating Ferris State in the quarterfinals of the GLIAC Tournament in three games (30-20, 31-29, 30-22) and then lost to Grand Valley State in the semifinals in three straight (18-30, 19-30, 21-30)…The Wildcats concluded the season with a 20-12 overall record which is the best since going 24-7 in 2004…Cassie Osiecki ended the 2007 campaign with 528 digs which is an all-time high for a season…Brittany McGowan ended her NMU career with 1,338 assists for the 2007 season and 3,593 assists for her career which places her fourth on the all-time list…Caryn VanBeckum led the ‘Cats in 2007 in kills (426), service aces (51), block solos (19), block assists (99), total blocks (118) and points (545.5)…Amy Andersen-Goldsworthy was the only other player in double-digits in block solos with 13…Katt Garvick had 14 kills against Ferris and ended the season with 346 which was good for second on the team.

Cardinals
  The 2007 SVSU volleyball team had one of the most successful seasons in the history of the program, winning 20 games and becoming the second team in school history to make the GLIAC Conference Tournament… SVSU had several members rewarded by the GLIAC conference with post-season awards. Head Coach Will Stanton, in his fifth season at SVSU, was voted as the Coach of the Year in the conference…senior Amy Howard (Cass City, Mich) and junior Sarah Redoute (Clinton Twp., Mich./L’Anse Creuse) were both named ALL-GLIAC Second Team, while Carmen Schacher (Flint, Mich./Kearsley) received Honorable Mention… Redoute led the team in kills for the season with 367 and finished second on the team in digs with 324… Schacher led the team in digs with 467, which was good for the fourth highest total in school history, as well as service aces with 54… Howard, who split time with sophomore Kait Harris (Essexville, Mich./Garber) as the team’s setter, led the team with 807 assists and finished second on the team to Schacher in service aces with 49… Jaclyn Carnago (St. Clair, Mich.) led the team in block assists with 101, which is the fifth highest total in school history.
