Ashland University
Eagles
  The #9 Ashland University Eagles won their lone match of the week, a 3-1 decision over intrastate rival, Findlay. It was Ashland’s eighth straight victory and its second win over Findlay this year. AU defeated the Oilers, 3-1, on Sept. 18 at Croy Gymnasium. Sophomore middle hitter Amanda Stefanski (Independence, OH) tallied 12 kills, zero errors, a .571 attack percentage, 9 digs, and 4 total blocks (2 solo, 2 assists). Senior outside hitter Mary Kate Glowe (Avon Lake, OH/Magnificat) recorded a match-high 20 kills and a team-high 21 digs, while sophomore outside hitter Marina Santos (San Paula, Brazil/Copley) added 16 kills and 20 digs. Senior setter Lynsey Warren (Worthington, OH/Bishop Watterson) dished 53 assists and picked up 11 digs. Ashland sits in a first-place tie in the GLIAC South Division with #14 Hillsdale at 13-2 league play. The teams will meet on Saturday afternoon (Nov. 3) at 1 p.m. in a match that will help determine the South Division champion. AU takes on Wayne State on Friday night (Nov. 2) at 7 p.m. The Eagles defeated Wayne State, 3-0, on Sept. 22 and lost to Hillsdale, 3-2, on Sept. 21. Ashland’s 24 victories are the most since 2004, when the Eagles won 26 matches. Both of the last two years, AU had won 23 matches. The school record for victories in a season is 29, which happened in 1990 and 1991.

Bulldogs
  Senior outside hitter Lindsay Tye (Gregory/Chelsea) is 35 kills away from moving into a tie for 13th place on FSU’s all-time kills leaders list with Lisa Haan (1988-91; 1,141 career kills). Tye has currently accumulated 1,106 career kills in 106 matches, which includes a personal career season-high 451 kills in 27 contests this season... Lindsay Tye compiled her team-leading 13th double-double of this campaign with a squad match-best 19 kills to go with 21 digs against nationally-ranked Grand Valley State last Friday (10/26). Tye’s 21 digs in the conference match represented a season best, surpassing her 18 digs total against Hillsdale (10/12)... Junior outside-middle hitter Emily Nemmers (Caledonia/East Kentwood) has racked up a combined 13 service aces in her last three matches to date after totaling nine aces in her previous 24 outings this season. She produced a career match-high six aces at Lake Superior State (10/21) and then followed with four aces against Grand Valley State last Friday (10/26).

Oilers
  Offensively for the Oilers, senior outside hitter Mallory Fleming led the team with 18 kills while freshman outside hitter Jenny Slone racked up ten. Freshman setter Megan Florence had 40 assists in the loss. Florence also added 10 digs while junior opposite hitter Kelsey Wesaw had 13 digs. The Oilers record is now 7-8 in the GLIAC and 18-12 over-all. They will finish up the regular season at home on November 2 and 3 by taking on Hillsdale College and Wayne State University.

Golden Knights
  Gannon dropped both matches during a GLIAC road trip last weekend against Wayne State and 14th-ranked Hillsdale … the Lady Knights have dropped eight consecutive matches and 15 of their last 16 … Gail Andrews (Strongsville, Ohio/Lutheran West) led Gannon with 3.50 kills per game last weekend … Noelle Schad (Coraopolis, Pa./Montour) recorded her fourth double-double of the season with 10 kills and 10 digs at Wayne State … Maire Prybyl (Mars, Pa./North Catholic) averaged 9.33 assists and 2.17 digs per game … Gannon completes the regular season this week with home matches against Edinboro and Mercyhurst.

Grand Valley State University
Lakers
     #10 Grand Valley State won its lone match of the week, knocking off Ferris State, 3-1 in Big Rapids, Mich…The win ended the Lakers four match road stint…GVSU hit .343 as a team in the match, while the Bulldogs hit just .211…Grand Valley recorded 21 more kills and 21 more digs than Ferris State…The Lakers had four player recorded 10 or more kills…Junior outside hitter Lauren Reber led GVSU with 18 kills, 14 digs, and two assists, while senior middle blocker Erica Vandekopple added 17 kills, a .467 hitting percentage, three digs, one assisted blocks and one ace. Junior middle blocker Danielle Alexander recorded 17 kills, five digs, four assists, two assisted blocks, while hitting .361 and freshman Rebeccah Rapin had 10 kills, two digs, two assists, one assisted block and a .348 attack percentage…GVSU is currently ranked #2 in the Great Lakes Region and dropped two spots last week to #10 in the CSTV/AVCA Division II Coaches Top 25 Poll…GVSU will end its four match road stint at West Michigan rival Ferris State on Friday, Oct. 27 at 5:00 p.m. for its lone match of the week…Grand Valley State will conclude regular season play this weekend at the GVSU Fieldhouse as they host Northwood on Friday, Nov. 2 at 7:00 p.m. and Saginaw Valley State on Saturday, Nov. 3 at 4:00 p.m..

Chargers
   The Hillsdale College volleyball team improved its winning streak to three over the weekend with back-to-back 3-0 sweeps of Mercyhurst and Gannon at home…The Chargers are 51-8 over the past two seasons and are 40-6 at home since the start of the 2004 season…Sixteen of Hillsdale’s 22 victories this season have come by 3-0 sweeps…Over the past two seasons, Hillsdale has compiled 37 3-0 sweeps over its opponents…Hillsdale is undefeated at home this season…Senior Megan Howard achieved her 2,000th career dig in Friday’s win over the Lakers…She is the only player in school history to hit such a mark in that category…Senior Melissa Bartlett had 35 kills and just two errors over the weekend, hitting .611 overall…Bartlett’s 521 kills are the second-most in a single season in school history…The Chargers are still ranked 14th in the nation and are seventh in the current Great Lakes Region standings…The team has qualified for the NCAA tournament each of the past three seasons…Hillsdale is also tied for first place in the GLIAC South Division with Ashland…The two teams will meet at Ashland Saturday afternoon in a match that will likely decide the South Division champion for 2007, along with the No. 2 seed in the upcoming GLIAC Tournament…The Chargers have clinched a first-round home match in the tournament, which will be played on Wednesday, Nov. 7 at 7 p.m. at Jesse Philips Arena.

Lake Superior State University
Lakers
  LSSU snapped a four-match losing streak with Sunday’s five-set victory at Northwood… LSSU senior Jamie Groos (Escanaba, Mich.), who moved back to the middle hitter position after playing outside hitter for most of the season, led the Lakers for the week in blocks with 13 and digs with 37. She also had a .837 serve receive percentage while continuing as one of the team’s top all-around players…Sophomore Sara Hess (Owosso, Mich.) led the Lakers in kills with 29 in their last three matches…LSSU totaled a season-high 96 digs in their victory over Northwood…The Lakers close out their season with road matches at Michigan Tech on Friday and Northern Michigan on Saturday.

Mercyhurst College
Lakers

  The Lakers posted a 1-2 record during the week, earning a non-conference victory over Lake Erie College at home before dropping GLIAC matches to Hillsdale and Wayne State on the road. With the win over Lake Erie, Mercyhurst recorded its 16th win of the season and clinched its first winning season since 2003. It’s also the most wins in a season for a Laker team since the 2003 team went 16-15. The win also improved Mercyhurst’s non-conference record to 13-1, including a 10-1 record versus non-conference opponents at home. Leading the way in that match was freshman Erin English, who totaled a career-high 12 kills and committed just two errors on 23 swings. Senior Christine Nisbet also recorded two service aces, giving her 131 on her career and breaking the school’s career service ace mark that was previously held by Lyndsi Hughes. Hughes played from 2001-04 and set the mark at 129.

Michigan Technological University
Huskies
  The Huskies finished the weekend 1-2, with the lone win coming against Lake Superior State. Michigan Tech will need to win out and get some help from others around the league to qualify for the GLIAC tournament...Junior LS Veronica Armstrong (Battle Creek, Mich.) recorded 38 kills in the three matches last week, with four aces, 28 digs and seven blocks. She also recorded a match-high 23 kills and 18 digs against Saginaw Valley.

Wildcats
   For the final week of the regular season, NMU will stay in the U.P., the Wildcats are at Michigan Tech on Wednesday and home to Lake Superior State on Saturday…Last week the ‘Cats extended its winning streak to four matches with a sweep of Saginaw Valley State and Northwood, NMU has won five of the past seven matches…NMU is a perfect 7-0 in Vandament Arena for the 2007 season and 11-10 away from Marquette…Caryn VanBeckum had 18 kills against the Timberwolves and hit .500 percent in the match…VanBeckum added 23 against SVSU and now has 367 for the season, which is a team high…Brittany McGowan leads the ‘Cats with 1,172 assists and now has 3,427 in her career which places her fifth on the all-time NMU list…VanBeckum also leads the ‘Cats at the net with 17 block solos, 92 block assists for 109 total blocks…VanBeckum has a team-high 44 service aces… Cassie Osiecki led the ‘Cats in digs over the weekend with 18 against SVSU and 19 against NU.

Northwood University
Timberwolves
   NU went 1-2 last week, defeating Michigan Tech before falling to Northern Michigan and Lake Superior … the Timberwolves enter the final week of the regular season with an 18-10 overall record and a 6-10 mark in GLIAC play … Northwood currently owns the final position it the GLIAC tournament – they have a one game lead over Michigan Tech for the final spot in the field … Gordana Barac (Mostar, Bosnia-Herzegovina) led Northwood for the week, averaging 4.75 kills and 3.58 digs per game … she finished with a career-high 27 kills in the Timberwolves’ loss to Lake Superior … senior Lana Sorokina (Zakumuiza, Latvia/Murianu Sport) had 19 digs against LSSU, giving her 1,002 for her career … with her 1,273 kills, Sorokina becomes the fifth player in Northwood history to have 1,000 kills and digs for her career, joining Pavla Melicharova, Romana Morakova, Dena Zizkova and Joan Frysinger … Sorokina currently has career-highs in kills per game (4.51), attack percentage (.217), aces per game (0.51) and digs per game (2.63) … Northwood will finish the regular season with road matches at Grand Valley and Ferris State this Friday and Saturday.

Cardinals
  The Cardinals went 2-1 in their weekend set of games, including a three set win over Lake Superior State and a four set win over Michigan Tech…with the two wins, the 2007 SVSU volleyball team moved into second place in school history for most wins in a season with 20…junior Sarah Redoute (Clinton Twp., Mich./L’Anse Cruese) led the Cardinal attack with 48 kills on the weekend, including a season high 25 kills against Northern Michigan Friday night…sophomore Jaclyn Carnago (St. Clair, Mich.) had 19 block assists and 29 kills in the three games and had a hitting percentage of .414 for the weekend…SVSU had 12 service aces in its match against Michigan Tech, including four from junior Kait Harris (Essexville, Mich./Garber)…the Cardinals’ regular season will end this weekend with trips to Ferris State and Grand Valley State.

Warriors
  Wayne State earned a pair of victories against the Erie schools over the weekend, shutting out Gannon on Friday and battling to a 3-1 win over Mercyhurst on Saturday … libero Mayssa Bazzi (Dearborn, Mich.) totaled 54 digs in Wayne State’s victories over Gannon and Mercyhurst this past weekend, giving her 616 on the season and setting a new WSU single-season record, eclipsing the previous mark of 602 set by Sei Hee Hwang in 2004 … she has totaled 20 or more digs in 19 matches this year and continues to lead the GLIAC and the nation with a 7.51 digs/game average … Kim Gear (Watervliet, Mich.) led the Warrior offense, posting a season-high 17 kills against the Golden Knights and 16 versus the Lakers … Gear also chipped in seven blocks over the two matches, including five solo … she ranks seventh in the GLIAC in blocking … Gina Zielonka (Sterling Hts., Mich.) had a double-double against Gannon, totaling 10 kills and 13 digs … she followed that with an eight-kill, six-dig performance in Saturday’s match, prior to which the team honored its four seniors – Karri Kuczajda (Waterford, Mich./Chelsea), Mary Leverentz (Three Rivers, Mich.), Mallory McEnroe (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills North), and Zielonka.
