Eagles
  #12 Ashland put together a 2-0 week with sweeps at Northwood and Saginaw Valley State. The Eagles are in second place in the GLIAC South Division, behind #11 Hillsdale. The 3-0 wins were Ashland’s 12th and 13th sweeps this season; AU is 13-1 in three-game matches this year. Against the Timberwolves, AU had four players with double-digit digs. Senior outside hitter Mary Kate Glowe (Avon Lake, OH/Magnificat) led the way with a match-high 24 digs, senior setter Lynsey Warren (Worthington, OH/Bishop Watterson) totaled 16, sophomore outside hitter Marina Santos ( San Paula, Brazil/Copley) notched 11, and sophomore middle hitter Britney Jurchenko (Lakewood, OH) added 10. Glowe led the way with 16 kills, while Warren provided 36 assists. The Eagles tallied 10 service aces, including six different players with an ace. It is the seventh time this season AU has recorded 10 or more aces in a match. Ashland hit .316 for the match in a 3-0 win over SVSU. Glowe had a match-high 15 kills, while Santos contributed 14. Warren was solid with 37 assists, 7 digs, 4 kills (in 7 attempts), and a pair of aces. The Eagles held their opponents to an .061 hitting percentage over the weekend and forced 46 attack errors.

Bulldogs
  Senior outside hitter Lindsay Tye (Gregory/Chelsea) became the 15th player in Ferris State history to register 1,000 career kills as she notched a team-leading 10 in the Bulldogs’ 3-0 conference home decision over Mercyhurst Saturday (10/6) . Tye, who 1,003 career kills in 100 matches, is 81 kills away from tying Erin Minnis (1998-01; 1,084 career kills) for 14th place among the program’s all-time leaders... Sophomore middle hitter Kristy Gilchrist (Macomb/Anchor Bay) is 40 kills away from reaching the 500-career kills plateau and currently has 460 career kills in 51 matches. Gilchrist’s 240 kills total in 21 matches this season represents a personal season high, bettering her 220 kills in 30 matches for the the 2006 campaign... Junior outside-middle hitter Emily Nemmers (Caledona/East Kentwood) is five kills shy of attaining her 100th career kill. Nemmers has recorded 95 total kills in 82 career matches... The Bulldogs’ .326 attack percentage in a 3-0 home league win over Gannon Friday (10/5) marked a team season high, which surpassed the squad’s .312 hitting clip against Colorado School of Mines (8/25) in the Ferris State Invitational.

Oilers
  Freshman outside hitter Jenny Slone led the Oilers for the weekend in kills with 22, including a career high against Northwood with 15. Slone averaged for the weekend more kills, digs, blocks, and points per game, and a higher hitting percentage than her season average in the two losses the Oilers suffered this past weekend...Senior outside hitter Mallory Fleming who is fourth in kills in the Findlay record book is 210 kills away from moving into third. Fleming is also fifth in the GLIAC in kills per game with 3.92... Junior opposite hitter Kelsey Wesaw is currently first on the team in hitting percentage with .317 is eighth in the GLIAC... The Oilers have two setters in the top six in assists in the GLIAC, freshman Megan Florence (11.56) and sophomore Ashley Lewis (10.98). Florence is also tied for fourth in the GLIAC in service aces per game (.49)... Both middle blockers for the Oilers are in the top seven for blocks per game. Junior Caitlyn Yoder is averaging 1.21 blocks per game while freshman Courtney Niemeyer is averaging 1.07.

Golden Knights
  Gannon earned its first GLIAC win of the season with a 3-2 victory over Mercyhurst on Tuesday (10/2)... Senior Noelle Schad (Coraopolis, Pa./Montour) posted a double-double for Gannon. Schad tallied 11 kills and a team-high 17 digs in the match... True freshman Gail Andrews (Strongsville, Ohio/Lutheran West) led the Lady Knights’ offense with 16 kills... GU dropeed a 3-0 decision at Ferris State Friday night (10/5)... Ashley Tubbs (Meadville, Pa./Meadville) and Andrews led Gannon’s offense with six kills apiece... Gannon fell to #9 Grand Valley State, 3-0, in Allendale, Mich. on Saturday (10/6)... Andrews led Gannon’s offense with nine kills. Maire Prybyl (Mars, Pa./North Catholic) tallied 26 assists. Kadie Zimmerman (Essexville, Mich./Garber) notched a team-high 10 digs... The Lady Knights return home on Friday, Octo. 12 to face Northwood. The GLIAC match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.

Lakers
 Grand Valley State extended its winning streak to 15 straight matches with a 3-0 record at home last week…GVSU’s 3-2 win over Ferris State marked the first time in more than five years the Lakers came back from an 0-2 deficit…In the three matches, the Lakers hit .223 as a team, while their opponent hit just .095…Grand Valley tallied 16 more kills, 14 more block, and seven more service aces than its three opponents…Junior middle blocker Danielle Alexander averaged 2.55 kills, 1.18 blocks, 1.09 assists, 0.73 digs, and 3.18 points, while senior middle blocker Erica Vandekopple added 3.00 kills, 0.78 digs, and a .339 hitting percentage… Vandekopple’s .375 hitting percentage on the season leads the GLIAC and Alexander’s .349 attack percentage ranks fourth and her 1.21 blocks per game ranks fifth…Junior setter Jamie Ashmore is posting 0.50 service aces per game, which is third best in the league and her 10.11 assists per game ranks eighth…Grand Valley State is ranked #9 in the latest CSTV/AVCA Division II Coaches Top 25 Poll…GVSU will continue its five match home stint next weekend, hosting Wayne State on Friday, Oct. 12 at 7:00 p.m. and #11 Hillsdale on Saturday, Oct. 13 at 4:00 p.m…#9 GVSU versus #11 Hillsdale features the only two remaining undefeated teams in the GLIAC.

Chargers
   First place in the GLIAC South Division still belongs to the Hillsdale College volleyball team, as the Chargers improved to 10-0 in the conference with wins over Michigan Tech (3-1), Northern Michigan (3-0) and Lake Superior State (3-0) at home over the weekend…NMU was 7-1 in conference play coming into Friday’s match, that saw it get swept by the Chargers…Hillsdale is 7-0 at home vs. the U.P. schools since the start of the 2006 season … Northern Michigan has visited Hillsdale three times since late September 2006, losing those three matches 3-1, 3-0 and 3-0 … The Chargers defeated the Wildcats in the first round of the 2006 GLIAC Tournament…Hillsdale has won 30 straight GLIAC matches, dating back to Oct. 22, 2005…The conference record is 42, set by Northern Michigan from 1992-1994…Freshman Sydney Dow made her collegiate debut at the libero position on Saturday vs. Lake Superior State, and finished with 11 digs and a service ace … Sophomore Emily Bennett hit a career-high .800 against Lake Superior State, getting eight kills on 10 attempts with no errors… Sophomore Kittrick Smith hit a career-high .583 against the Lakers … Hillsdale is ranked 11th in the latest AVCA/CSTV Division II Top 25 poll…Hillsdale has been nationally ranked every week since September 2006…The Chargers have now won at least 19 matches in four consecutive years, a school record.

  Sophomore middle hitter Sara Hess (Owosso, Mich.) totaled 18 kills and a .469 attack percentage during LSSU’s 3-1 loss at Wayne State on Sunday. Her career-high kill total was the best by a Laker in a four-game match this season, and her attack percentage was the best by a Laker in a conference match this season...LSSU’s 82 digs against Wayne State was the Lakers’ second-highest overall team total of the season and a season-high for a four-game match.

Lakers

  The Mercyhurst Lakers dropped three matches this week to GLIAC opponents, extending their season-long losing streak to four matches. After opening the season with a 12-1 record and the best start in school history, the Lakers have dropped eight of their last 10 dating back to Sept. 14. During that stretch, the Lakers have lost five matches in three games, two in two games and one in five games. Their five-game loss came at home against Gannon on Oct. 2. Prior to that match, Mercyhurst had not lost at home all season (10-0)... Against Grand Valley State and Ferris State, no Laker recorded double digit kills. It was only the second and third time all year that had happened and the first time it occurred in back-to-back matches. Against FSU, the Lakers hit -.010 on the match, marking its lowest single-game hitting percentage of the season.

Huskies
  Michigan Tech nearly broke a school record with 18 total team blocks at Hillsdale last Thursday (Oct. 4). The school record is 19.5. The Huskies rank third in the league in blocks per game at 2.71 … Sophomore Kelly Jorgensen (Eden Prairie, Minn.) ranks fifth in the league in attack percentage at .339 … Michigan Tech’s record so far in 2007 is 4-0 at home, 0-7 on the road, and 2-3 at neutral sites … Junior Veronica Armstrong (Battle Creek, Mich./Central) leads the Huskies in kills with 154 (2.57 per game) and service aces with 28 (.47 per game).

Wildcats
  NMU will continue with its GLIAC South swing this week with matches at Ashland and Findlay…Last week in the first part of its GLIAC South swing the Wildcats split as they lost at Hillsdale and won at Wayne State…The loss at Hillsdale snapped the ‘Cats seven-match winning streak, but the team has won eight of its past nine matches…Brittany McGowan had seven kills, 37 assists, nine digs and two block assists against the Chargers the next day at WS she had nine kills, 53 assists, one service ace, 17 digs and four block assists…McGowan leads the team with 871 assists as she also has 22 service aces, 217 digs and 26 total blocks…For the week, Caryn VanBeckum led the ‘Cats with 25 kills (3.57 k/game), while leading the team with seven total blocks (one block solo and six block assists)…Against WS four ‘Cats had 10 or more kills as Mandie Meyer led the way with 16 kills… VanBeckum is second on the team with 240 kills, is tied with Cassie Osiecki with 33 service aces for tops on the team, has 12 block solos and 72 block assists to lead the ‘Cats…Katt Garvick has a team-high 244 kills…Osiecki has a team-leading 342 digs.

Timberwolves
   Northwood went 1-1 last week, falling to Ashland before defeating Findlay … Northwood is now 15-7 overall, 3-7 in the GLIAC … the Timberwolves had a strong week defensively, averaging 20.0 digs per game … NU is averaging 16.2 digs per game for the season … Lana Sorokina (Zakumuiza, Latvia/Murianu Sport) led Northwood for the week, averaging 4.0 kills per game … she had 12 kills against Ashland and 16 kills versus Findlay … Gordana Barac (Mostar, Bosnia-Herzegovina) played a key role in Northwood’s victory over Findlay, finishing with 22 kills, 14 digs and three aces … Aleksandra Stoletova (Tomsk, Russia) also had a strong match against Findlay as well, finishing with 12 kills, eight digs and five aces … Northwood rallied in each game it won against Findlay – Northwood trailed 26-22 in game one, 17-11 in game two and 28-24 in game three before coming back to win all three games.

Cardinals
  SVSU split a pair of weekend matches, defeating Findlay in three sets, but losing in three to Ashland...the Cardinals record is now 15-8 overall, and 4-6 in GLIAC play...the Cardinals will hit the road for two games in Erie, Penn this weekend to play at Mercyhurst and Gannon...sophomore Allison Schlinkert (OH, Marysville, Mich.) had 19 kills in the Cardinal win over Findlay...junior Carmen Schacher (DS/L, Flint, Mich./Kearsly) ranks seventh in the GLIAC with an average of 4.38 digs/game.

Warriors
  After losing its first six GLIAC matches of the season, Wayne State has won three of its last four to climb back into contention for a playoff spot … the Warriors hosted the trio of Upper Peninsula schools over the weekend and went 2-1, defeating Michigan Tech on Friday and Lake Superior State on Sunday but falling to Northern Michigan on Saturday … Kim Gear (Watervliet, Mich.) hit .337 and extended her streak of double-digit kill totals to five matches in the tripleheader … her .414 attack percentage on Friday set a season-high for the squad … Gear also accumulated 13 blocks in the three matches, as she ranks sixth in the GLIAC with a 1.08 blocks/game average … Mayssa Bazzi (Dearborn, Mich.), the league leader in digs/game (7.74), totaled 36 against LSSU, her eighth match this season with 30 or more digs … Meg Leone (Troy, Mich.) posted double-doubles against Michigan Tech (12 kills, 14 digs) and LSSU (10 kills, 17 digs).
