Eagles
  #9 Ashland University continued its winning streak, as the Eagles have won 11 straight matches, including the last 8 matches by 3-0 counts. AU hit .311 over the weekend in wins over Gannon and Mercyhurst. Senior outside hitter Mary Kate Glowe (Avon Lake, OH/Magnificat) notched 34 kills and a .397 attack percentage, adding 24 digs to her team-leading total. Sophomore middle hitter Britney Jurchenko (Lakewood, OH) tallied 23 kills and 13 digs, while connecting at a .362 pace. AU now has five players with 100+ kills, including Glowe, Jurchenko, sophomore middle hitter Amanda Stefanski (Independence, OH), sophomore outside hitter Marina Santos (San Paula, Brazil/Copley), and freshman middle hitter Sophie Paddock (Girard, OH/Hubbard). The Eagles haven’t lost since a 3-0 setback to #17 Northern Kentucky on Aug. 25 at the North Alabama Invitational. The last time AU played more than a 3-game match was a 3-1 win over Fort Lewis at the Skyhawk Classic on Aug. 31. Ashland is hitting .293 as a team this year and holding opponents to a .096 percentage. The Eagles have also served up 104 aces to just 45 for their opponents. Senior setter Lynsey Warren (Worthington, OH/Bishop Watterson), the GLIAC leader last year in aces, has 22 this season and Glowe has 20..

Bulldogs
  Senior outside hitter Lindsay Tye (Gregory/Chelsea), who has amassed 892 career kills in 93 matches, presently ranks 18th on FSU’s all-time career kills leaders list and is 34 kills shy of tying Lori Blair (1987-90; 924 total kills) for 17th place... Ferris State improved its record to 13-5 (.722) in conference openers since 1990 as a result of registering a 3-1 league home decision over Lake Superior State last Friday (Sept. 14) in Big Rapids. The Bulldogs have now won eight of their last 10 conference openers... Senior libero-outside hitter Jamie Palazzolo (Emmett/Yale) has currently posted double-figure digs in her last 12 matches and is averaging 18.9 digs (227 total) during that span. Palazzolo’s career match-high 31 digs against Michigan Tech Saturday (9/15) represented a tie for the fifth-highest single-match digs total in the program’s history. Wendy McCann totaled 31 digs versus Northwood (10/23/86) as did Tracie Henne (10/20/92).

Oilers
  Junior OH Kelsey Wesaw opened up conference play with two outstanding performances which led the Oilers to a 2-0 start in the GLIAC. Against Mercyhurst, Wesaw had 13 kills in 17 attempts (.706) which was the sixth best hitting percentage of all-time in a single match at Findlay. Against Gannon, Wesaw had another solid showing with 10 kills on 14 attempts (.500). For the two matches Wesaw hit a .613 and had 7 blocks, averaging 1.17 blocks per game on the right side... Senior outside hitter Mallory Fleming has become fourth in kills in the Findlay record book with 1346 and is 291 kills away from moving into third...Both freshman and sophomore setters Megan Florence and Ashley Lewis are in the top five in assists for the season in the GLIAC.

Golden Knights
  Gannon opened GLIAC play with two 3-0 losses last weekend at Ashland and Findlay … the Lady Knights are in the midst of a seven-match road trip and a stretch that has 10 of 12 matches on the road … Ashley Tubbs (Meadville, Pa./Meadville) was the only Lady Knight to reach double digits for the week, recording 13 kills … Alyse Parker (Conneautville, Pa./Linesville) averaged 4.40 digs per game last weekend.

Lakers
 Grand Valley State moved up two spots in the AVCA Top 25 Coaches Poll last week and is now ranked #11…The Lakers started off GLIAC play by winning three matches at home over the weekend…GVSU dropped just one game all weekend, in a 3-1 win over Northern Michigan…The Lakers dominated their three matches, tallying 52 more kills, 10 more aces, and 11 more blocks…GVSU hit .234 as a team on the weekend, but its opponents posted a .074 hitting percentage…Leading the way for the Lakers, was senior Erica Vandekopple who averaged 4.40 kills, 1.00 blocks, 0.50 digs, and a .389 hitting percentage…Junior outside hitter Lauren Reber added 3.30 kills and 3.70 digs per game… Grand Valley will continue GLIAC play on the road this weekend… The Lakers will play Saginaw Valley State on Friday, Sept. 21 at 7:00 p.m. and at Northwood on Saturday, Sept. 22 at 4:00 p.m.

Chargers
   The GLIAC winning streak for the Hillsdale College volleyball team now stands at 22 after a pair of weekend victories to open the conference schedule…The Chargers haven’t lost a regular season GLIAC match since Oct. 22, 2005…Their in-conference winning streak is the longest active streak in the GLIAC…The team won its last three GLIAC matches in 2005, won all 17 in 2006 and won the first two this season…Hillsdale defeated Northwood and Saginaw Valley, who came into their respective matches with the Chargers with a combined record of 24-2…The Timberwolves were the fifth nationally ranked team Hillsdale has faced this season, and the second ranked team it defeated…Junior setter Stephanie Booms had 65 assists on Saturday vs. SVSU, one short of her career-high…Her 16 digs in that match are three shy of her career-best…Sophomore Emily Bennett had 12 kills in each match, setting a new career-high…Hillsdale has defeated Northwood four years in a row, and has an 11-game winning streak against Saginaw Valley…The last time the Cardinals beat the Chargers on the volleyball court was on Oct. 9, 1998…The last time Hillsdale needed five games to beat SVSU was in 1999…Hillsdale is on a four-game winning streak overall.

Lakers
  LSSU will be looking for its first GLIAC victory of 2007 when it plays Gannon in the Lakers’ home opener at 7 p.m. Friday…Senior Jamie Groos (Escanaba, Mich.) and junior Brishia Stroven (St. Louis, Mich.) led LSSU in last week’s losses at Grand Valley State and Ferris State. Stroven finished with 17 kills and a .128 attack percentage, while Gross totaled 16 kills and a .164 attack percentage…With the loss to GVSU, LSSU dropped to 0-4 against teams that have received votes in the AVCA poll.

Mercyhurst College
Lakers

  After winning 12 of their first 13 matches, opening with the best start in program history and posting a nine-match winning streak, the Mercyhurst women’s volleyball team dropped two-consecutive GLIAC matches to open conference play. Both of Mercyhurst’s losses came against teams with a combined record of 25-4 when the matches were played. Both of Mercyhurst’s opponents were also nationally recognized, as Ashland was ranked No. 9 in the AVCA Coaches Poll and Findlay was receiving votes at the beginning of last week. The losses came by 3-0 scores, and it marked the first time all season that Mercyhurst was defeated in three games. The team’s only other loss came to Westmont College on Aug. 25 in four games. It is the second-straight year and the fourth time in the last five years that the Lakers have opened GLIAC play with two-straight losses. Individually, Junior Jenna Matson led the team in kills in both matches. She recorded 12 against Findlay and 11 against Ashland, giving her three-straight double-digit kill performances. She has totaled double digit kills in all but five of the team’s matches. Junior Lauren Kubinski totaled a season-high four aces against Ashland. She has recorded two or more service aces five times this season. She now ranks fourth on the team with 16 service aces. Freshman Kendall Ashworth totaled 25 digs in the two weekend matches, giving her five-straight matches of 10 or more digs. She has recorded double digit digs in all but three matches this season.

Huskies
  After three straight weekends in three different states (Florida, Minnesota, and lower Michigan) and a trip to Northern Michigan scheduled for Wednesday (Sept. 19), the Michigan Tech volleyball team will finally get a chance to play its first home matches of the year this weekend... The Huskies host Mercyhurst Saturday (Sept. 22) at 4 p.m. and Gannon Sunday (Sept. 23) at 2 p.m. at the SDC Gym. The tilts are the first two of eight regular season home matches on the 2007 schedule … Junior Jen Jung (Andover, Minn./Coon Rapids) leads the team and ranks fourth in the GLIAC in blocks per game at 1.21. She also owns a team-high 89 kills on the season.

Wildcats
  The NMU women’s volleyball team will finally have a couple of home matches…The Wildcats have been on the road for the first 14 matches of the season as the team went 7-7…This week the ‘Cats host Michigan Tech in a mid-week encounter and will entertain Mercyhurst and Gannon over the weekend…On the ‘Cats first GLIAC road swing of the season the team split as the team lost to Grand Valley in four on Saturday and to Ferris State in five on Sunday…NMU is 7-2 in its past nine matches…Katt Garvick led the ‘Cats against the Lakers with 17 kills while Amy Andersen-Goldsworthy recorded 17 against the Bulldogs…Andersen-Goldsworthy led the ‘Cats on the weekend with 27 kills…Garvick leads the team with 174 kills on the season …VanBeckum has five of the 13 block solos on the season and a team-high 46 block-assists…Two NMU players have 140 or more digs on the season, Breanne Zaremba leads the team with 167 digs while Brittany McGowan has 140…McGowan also has 538 of the 640 assists on the season...Five ‘Cats are in double-digits in the service aces column, Cassie Osiecki leads the way with 18.

Timberwolves
   The No. 25 Northwood University volleyball team split a pair of matches last week, falling 3-0 at No. 17 Hillsdale before earning a 3-1 win at Wayne State … the loss to Hillsdale was the Timberwolves’ first of the season, as Northwood now stands at 13-1 on the season … Lana Sorokina (Zakumuiza, Latvia/Murianu Sport) once again played well for the Timberwolves averaging 5.0 kills and 2.29 digs per game … she had a match-high 20 kills on 35 attempts (.457) at Hillsdale … against Wayne State, Northwood had a balanced attack, finishing with five players with 10 or more digs … Sorokina shared team-high honors with Ashley Carr (Marysville, Mich.) against the Warriors, each finishing with 15 kills … freshman Jolyn Timms (Adrian, Mich.) had a career-high 13 kills against the Chargers … senior Gordana Barac (Mostar, Bosnia-Herzegovina) played a strong all-around match against the Warriors, finishing with 11 kills, 18 digs and five aces … Northwood will play its first two home matches of the season this week, hosting Ferris State and Grand Valley State.

Cardinals
  The Cardinals nearly pulled out a pair of wins on the road this weekend after winning 3-0 at Wayne State before falling 3-2 at #17 Hillsdale…Sophomore Allison Schlinkert (Marysville, Mich.) had a great weekend and posted 15 kills and 16 digs at Wayne State and 25 kills and six digs at Hillsdale…Senior Amy Howard (Cass City, Mich.) had 55 assists and 13 digs against Hillsdale…SVSU hit .230 in the Hillsdale match and led 2-0 before surrendering the final three games..

Warriors
  Wayne State opened its GLIAC and home schedule with losses to Saginaw Valley State on Friday and #25 Northwood on Saturday … Kim Gear (Watervliet, Mich.) led the Warrior offense, tying for match-high honors with 15 kills against the Cardinals and posting nine kills and a season-high eight blocks (three solo) versus the Timberwolves … Gear ranks fifth in the GLIAC in blocks/game (1.16) while teammate Mallory McEnroe (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills North) ranks second (1.27) … as a team, WSU is second in the league with a 2.99 blocks/game average … Mayssa Bazzi (Dearborn, Mich.), who has 320 digs and is the GLIAC digs/game leader (8.21), is more than halfway to the school record of 602 set by Sei Hee Hwang in 2004 … Wayne State has three home matches this week beginning Tuesday with #17 Hillsdale … the Chargers have won the last six meetings, while the Warriors last win came in Hillsdale on Nov. 7, 2003 … WSU hosts Findlay on Friday and #9 Ashland on Saturday, who have a combined record of 26-4 this season.
