The Eagles clinched third place in the conference last Saturday with a victory at Mercyhurst. This is the first time in school history AU has advanced to the conference tournament. The doubles tandem of senior Chelsey Guerin (Massillon, OH/Washington) and sophomore Christa Halicki (North Royalton, OH/Padua Franciscan) is 13-2…sophomore Meg Stoll (Canton, OH/Jackson) is 14-3. That win total is the highest on the team. Close behind is senior Morgan Sanders (North Canton, OH/St. Thomas Aquinas) who is 13-3.

Bulldogs
The FSU women’s tennis team wrapped up Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) regular-season action by splitting a pair of home matches this past weekend at the FSU Racquet and Fitness Center in Big Rapids, Mich. The Bulldogs topped Findlay 6-3 in Friday’s (Oct. 19) encounter before falling to Wayne State by the same score in Saturday’s (Oct. 20) match. Ferris took the top three singles flights and won four of the six singles spots overall in the win over the Oilers. The Bulldogs are currently 3-6 both overall and in league action... FSU will be the seventh seed in this weekend’s (Oct. 26-27) GLIAC Tournament and face number-two seeded Grand Valley State in Friday’s opening round of action at the Midland Community Tennis Center in Midland, Mich. The Lakers previously posted a 9-0 triumph over FSU in regular-season play (Oct. 5) at Big Rapids.

The University of Findlay women’s tennis team fell 6-3 on Friday, October 19 to Ferris State University in Big Rapids, Michigan... The Oilers then lost, 9-0, to Grand Valley State on Saturday, Oct. 20 in Allendale, Michigan. The losses give the Oilers a 5-9 record on the year with a 1-7 mark in the GLIAC... The Oilers will be back in action again on Oct. 25 against Northwood in Midland, Michigan.

Grand Valley State tallied a 2-1 record last week, dropping its first match of the season to GLIAC opponent Northwood…Grand Valley was the first team to take a point from Northwood this season…The Lakers conclude the fall season with a 9-1 overall record and enter the GLIAC Tournament with an 8-1 conference record…GVSU has earned the #2 seed in the GLIAC Tournament will play the #7 seed Ferris State in the first round on Saturday, Oct. 27…The two teams met earlier this season in Big Rapids and the Lakers swept the Bulldogs, 9-0.

Senior Megan LaMothe ( Troy, Mich.) was 1-1 at No. 1 singles last week and finished her season 6-4 overall and 6-3 in the GLIAC. She started her career as LSSU’s No. 4 singles player, moved up a spot every year and enjoyed four straight winning seasons. She finished with a career record of 48-22 in singles and 47-24 in doubles. She was 4-6 at No. 1 doubles this season. LSSU sophomore Weronika Lomacka ( Warsaw, Poland) had LSSU’s next best season record of 3-7 at No. 2 singles.

Mercyhurst qualified for the GLIAC Tennis Championships as the No. 4 seed after finishing the season 6-3 in conference play…The Lakers closed the season with a 5-4 loss to Ashland that decided the No. 3 seed in the tournament…Mercyhurst was the No. 4 seed a year ago as well, but went 0-3 in the tournament …Kim Ezzo finished the regular season with the team’s best singles record, going 12-3 playing primarily at No. 2…Jaclyn McLean and Meghan Raynor went 10-4 at No. 2 doubles, while Ezzo and Jennifer Daly were 10-5 at No. 1…Mercyhurst will play Michigan Tech in the opening round of the GLIAC Tennis Championships, a team it beat 5-4 on Sept. 8 by winning four of six singles matches, including a pair of three-setters.

Despite playing some strong points, the Michigan Tech women’s tennis team couldn’t overcome perennial GLIAC power Northwood. The visiting Timberwolves came away with a 9-0 victory on Friday (10/19)...Michigan Tech rebounded to gain an 8-1 victory over Saginaw Valley State at the Gates Tennis Center on Saturday (10/20) to wrap up its 2007 fall regular season. The Huskies, who have won five of their last six matches, are 7-4 overall and 5-4 in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play heading into the GLIAC Championships next weekend.

The Saginaw Valley State University tennis team added another conference win to their resume with a 6-3 victory over Lake Superior State on Friday (10/19)... The Cards were led by wins from Courtney Heilman (East China, Mich.), Sarah Campian (Troy, Mich.), and Kathleen Farah (Flushing, Mich.)... The SVSU tennis team struggled to get into a groove as the fell to Michigan Tech 8-1 on Saturday (Oct. 20) afternoon... The bright spot for the Cardinals was once again Courtney Heilman who won her match at three singles in straight sets 7-6, 6-2.

Freshman Sharon Gill (Windsor, Ont/Academie Ste. Cecile) led WSU to a 2-1 record for the week notching a 4-2 combined singles and doubles mark last week. She went 2-0 at the No. 1 singles and doubles spot to lead WSU to an 8-1 win over Div I opponent Valparaiso (Oct. 16). Gill gave WSU its only point of the match against GVSU defeating Jenna Killips 6-1, 7-5 at No. 1 singles (Oct. 19). She also teamed with freshman Milena Vuksanovic to defeat Amy Ingle and Ann Grant, 8-1, at No. 1 doubles to lead Wayne State to a 6-3 victory over Ferris State (Oct. 20) helping the warriors finish 5-5 on the season.
