The Bulldogs women’s tennis team, under first-year head coach Alex Palladino, dropped a pair of league road decisions this past weekend (Sept. 22-23). FSU lost at Ashland Friday (Sept. 22) and to Mercyhurst Saturday (Sept. 23) by identical 7-2 scores. Four of Ferris’ top six singles players are new to the program this year. The Bulldogs return home to host Lake Superior State and Michigan Tech in league action this weekend (Sept. 28-29) at the FSU Racquet and Fitness Center in Big Rapids, Mich. Ferris takes on LSSU Friday (Sept. 28) at 2:30 p.m. and then battles the Huskies Saturday (Sept. 29) in a 10 a.m. (EDT) encounter.

The UF women’s tennis team dropped a match against Saginaw Valley State University 8-1 on Sunday, Sept. 23 at home. The loss gives the Oilers a 4-2 record on the year with a 0-1 mark in the GLIAC... Junior Amanda Molnar (West Milton, Ohio/Milton-Union) picked up the lone point for the Oilers with a 6-1, 6-2 win over SVSU’s Sarah Campian ... The Oilers will be back in action again on Sept. 25 when they take on Tiffin University in Tiffin, Ohio at 3 p.m.

The Grand Valley State women’s tennis team won its first three dual matches of the year with victories over Mercyhurst, Ashland, and Tiffin…The Lakers stand at 3-0 overall and 2-0 in GLIAC play…In singles play, the Lakers went a combined 17-1 on the weekend road trip and were perfect in doubles, going 9-0… Senior Jenna Killips improved her singles record to 7-2 with three victories…All four of GVSU’s starting freshman, Katelyn Grashorn, Jackie Shipman, Chelsea Johnston, and Darylann Trout, were undefeated in singles play…In doubles, the tandem of Emily Zellner and Killips recorded three wins to improve their record to 7-1…The freshman duo of Johnston and Trout also sport a 7-1 doubles record after the weekend’s matches.

Senior Megan LaMothe (Troy, Mich.) posted a three-set victory at No. 1 singles for LSSU’s only victory against Michigan Tech on Sept. 21. LaMothe has improved to 2-1 in singles and is 1-2 while paired with freshman Gaby Juan-Alladio (Montreal, Que.) at No. 1 doubles.

Mercyhurst won two of three matches this week, beating Division III Allegheny and GLIAC opponent Ferris State to go with a loss to Grand Valley State…The win over Ferris State was Mercyhurst’s first victory over the Bulldogs in program history…Freshman Kim Ezzo is 7-0 in dual match play at No. 2 singles with a perfect 4-0 mark in conference…Meghan Raynor has posted a 6-1 mark in dual play this year, posting a 5-1 record at No. 5 and a 1-0 mark at No. 4…Mercyhurst hosts two more pivotal conference matches this week for Homecoming, with contests against Findlay and Wayne State.

Michigan Tech gained its first GLIAC women’s tennis win of the season at Lake Superior State with a decisive 8-1 score on Saturday (Sept. 22). The Huskies evened their record to 2-2 overall (1-2 in the GLIAC) ... Tech led, 3-0, after the doubles matches. Nicole Kirch and Amy Palmgren overcame a 7-3 deficit at number one to post a 9-8 (6) victory. Silvia Oliveros and Nathalia Rondelli gained an 8-2 win at number two, while Samantha Jang-Stewart and Asel Otunchieva prevailed, 8-4, at number three ... Oliveros overcame a slow start to defeat Weronika Lomacka, 1-6, 6-3, 6-4, at number two singles. Kirch, Jang-Stewart, Otunchieva, and Rondelli were all straight set winners... Michigan Tech heads to Grand Valley State Friday (Sept. 28) and Ferris State Saturday (Sept. 29).

Cardinals
SVSU dropped an 8-1 decision at Wayne State on Friday... The lone point for Saginaw Valley State came at two doubles as the tandem of Sarah Campian and Katie Hanover cruised to an 8-0 win... The Cardinals picked up their inaugural win of the fall season with a 5-4 victory at Tiffin University on Saturday. The Cardinals trailed 2-1 after the doubles portion as Katie Hanover (St. Johns, Mich.) and Sarah Campian (Troy, Mich.) were 8-5 winners at two doubles... SVSU won four of the six singles matches as three went into a third set. Cortney Heileman (East China, Mich./St. Clair) was a 6-0, 2-6, 6-0 winner at three singles. Hanover had the toughest match at one singles falling in the first set 7-5 but coming back to win 7-6, 6-2... The Cards picked up their first GLIAC win of the fall with an 8-1 victory at Findlay on Sunday. SVSU swept the three doubles matches and five of the six singles matches SVSU is now 2-2 overall and 1-2 in the GLIAC.

Freshman Sharon Gill (Windsor, Ont/Academie Ste. Cecile) went 2-0 last week and notched her first career dual match victory at the No.1 position with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Danielle Coldren of Saginaw Valley State. She also teamed fellow freshman Milena Vuksanovic to defeat Coldren/Heileman, 8-6, at the No. 1 doubles spot helping WSU to an 8-1 victory over Saginaw Valley State..
