FSU wrapped up action in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Great Lakes Regional Championships this past Saturday (Sept. 15) in Indianapolis, Ind. Freshman Amy Ingle dropped her third round match to Indianapolis’ Lindsey Fischer 6-2, 6-1... Ingle had advanced to the third round of singles action with a pair of victories in Friday’s (Sept. 14) opening day of play. She was the lone Bulldog player to advance to Saturday’s second day of competition in singles action following Friday’s play. Sophomore newcomer Daniela Dimas reached the second round of singles play on Friday before bowing out of the event while juniors Jessie Conklin and Ann Grant both dropped their opening-round matches. In doubles play, the tandem of Ingle and Dimas captured a victory before being eliminated in round two. Conklin and Grant also competed, but dropped their first round doubles contest. The Bulldogs open Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) action under first-year head coach Alex Palladino by visiting Ashland and Mercyhurst for dual matches this Friday and Saturday.

The University of Findlay women’s tennis team took part in the ITA Tournament on September 14 in Indianapolis, Indiana. The Oilers came away with one victory at the event, which belonged to Haley Dudon in a singles match (6-2, 6-1).

GVSU played in the Wilson/ITA Great Lakes Championships…Senior Jenna Killips won two matches to advance to the final 16, where she dropped a 6-2, 6-2 decision to Laure Piquemal of Drury…Junior Katelyn Grashorn, junior Audrey Koopsen, and freshman Darylann Trout all advanced to the final 32 before dropping a match…In doubles action, Koopsen and Killips advanced to the quarterfinals before falling to a doubles pair from Northwood…Freshman Chelsea Johnston and Trout teamed up to make it all the way to the quarterfinals as well before dropping a match to teammates from Drury…The Lakers will open GLIAC play this weekend as the travel to Mercyhurst and Ashland.

Mercyhurst took part in the ITA Regional Tournament this weekend in Indianapolis, Ind…Jennifer Daly and Jaclyn McLean won opening round singles matches, but both lost in the second round…Daly pushed Drury’s Thu Ha Mai to a third-set super tiebreak in the second round before losing 6-3, 6-7 (4-7), 10-4 … At 4-0, Mercyhurst is off to its best start in more than a decade … Kim Ezzo, Meghan Raynor and McLean are yet to lose a singles match in dual match play, having run their records to 4-0.

The two Michigan Tech singles players and its doubles team that advanced through day one of the ITA Great Lakes Regional all lost in their first match of day two... Fifth-seeded Amy Palmgren was upended by ninth seed Julia Gonclaves of Northwood, 6-3, 6-0. Silvia Oliveros was also knocked out by a Northwood player — that being top-seeded Ashley Neumann — by a 6-2, 6-1 count... In doubles, Palmgren and Nicole Kirch were defeated by the second-seeded duo of Mouna Sabri and Khrystsina Tryboi from Drury, 8-2... Michigan Tech will return to dual match action Saturday (Sept. 22) at Lake Superior State.

The Northwood University women’s tennis team claimed both the singles and doubles titles at the Wilson ITA Great Lakes Regional Championship Sunday afternoon (Sept. 16)... Freshman Darina Berkova (Ceske Budejovic, Czech Republic) took home the singles title, while the doubles team of junior Ashley Neumann (Port Colborn, Ont.) and senior Julia Goncalves (Curtiba, Brazil) were crowned doubles champion... Berkova, in just her second event at Northwood, won her first three matches in singles in straight sets. She then posted a three-set win over the No. 2 seed, Mouna Sabri of Drury in the quarterfinals. After defeating Allison Schmitz of Lewis in the semifinals, Berkova defeated Laure Piquemal of Drury in the finals by the scores of 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-5)... The brackets held to form on the women’s side, as top-seeded Neumann and Goncalves faced the second-seeded team of Sabri and Khrystsina Tryboi of Drury in the finals. Goncalves and Neumann allowed their opponents to finish with less then three games won in four of their five matches, including the finals which saw the NU duo claim an 8-3 victory... With the regional titles, Berkova, Goncalves and Neumann qualify for the Wilson/ITA National Championships, which will take place Oct. 12-14 in Florida.

The Cardinal women’s tennis team had a tough draw for the season opener as they faced the Timberwolves of Northwood University falling 9-0 to a squad that finished ranked 18th in Division II at the end of last year... Saginaw Valley State could not muster more than two games against Northwood in either the singles or doubles competition. Megan Major had the closest match at five singles having dropped a 6-1, 6-2 decision to Raphaela Perisic. Cortney Heileman (East China, Mich./St. Clair HS) was the other Cardinal to win at least one game in each set falling 6-1, 6-1 to Ashley Neumann... The doubles tandems managed to take five games from the Timberwolves but could not set the tone with an upset in those three matchups. SVSU (0-1) is next in action on Sept. 21 at Wayne State with first serve at 2:00 p.m.

Sharon Gill, Freshman (Windsor, Ont/Academie Ste. Cecile) had a successful colligate debut and led the way for the Warriors advancing to the round of 16 in the 64 player singles draw at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Great Lakes Regional hosted by the University of Indianapolis. She defeated Clare Kessler of Lewis University, 6-0, 6-0, in the first round, upset No. 11 seed Laura Phillipp of host Indianapolis University, 6-4, 6-1 in the round of 32 before falling 6-4, 4-6(10-5ST) to No. 2 seed Mouna Sabri of Drury in the round of 16... In doubles action, Gill teamed with fellow freshman Milena Vuksanovic and defeated Michelle Schirmann and Emil Okerson of Northern Kentucky, 8-6, before falling to No. 7 seed Audrey Koopsen and McCall Monte of Grand Valley State, 8-2.
