Eagles
  The Eagles completed a 7-1 week with bookend sweeps over Lake Superior State on Monday and Grand Valley State on Sunday. Ashland outscored its opponents 60-15 in the eight games…AU has won 17 of its last 21 games, while three of the four losses being of the one-run variety…the Eagles hit .382 as a team for the week, led by outfielders Jenn Alderson (Washington, PA/Chartiers Houston) and Erica Miller (Indianapolis, IN/Franklin Central). Alderson, a senior leftfielder hit .519, while tallying 11 runs, six RBI and her first homer of the season. She also stole eight bases and is 17-of-18 on the year in that category. Miller, a freshman rightfielder, hit .467 with 10 runs scored, three doubles, two triples, and four RBI. Alderson leads the team with a .368 average, while Miller is hitting .366…Ashland’s pitching staff continues to be strong, as it maintained a 1.85 earned run average for the week. Freshman lefty Logan Hursey (Zanesville, OH/John Glenn) was 3-0 with a 1.84 ERA. She allowed 13 hits in 19 innings and fanned 15 batters. Junior righthander Shannon Gray (Nova, OH/Crestview) was also 3-0 with a 1.75 ERA, as she allowed six runs in 20 innings of work. Offensively, Hursey hit her first collegiate homer against Grand Valley State on Sunday, while Gray batted .600 with six RBI for the week…senior third baseman Kristen McGaughey (Massillon, OH/Jackson) is back on track after her early-season struggles. She picked up 10 hits and 10 RBI during the week. For the year, McGaughey has 31 RBI, good for top-5 in the GLIAC. Her 94 career RBI places her fifth in school history and she is third in career homers, with 19 dingers.

Bulldogs
   Senior third baseman Katie Kraai (Zeeland) became the school’s all-time record holder in doubles as she posted the 44th second-base hit of her career against Wayne State (4/25). Kraai, who presently has 46 doubles in 190 contests, surpassed Anne Bentley’s (1997-00) 43 career doubles. FSU’s school record-tying 16 conference victories (16-4) this season represents the most regular-season league wins since the 2000 campaign when the Bulldogs also won 16 games in GLIAC action (16-4). Ferris State compiled a 16-6 mark in 22 April contests this season and batted for a .321 average (195-607) as a team. The Bulldogs’ pitching corps turned in a 1.75 earned run average (36 earned runs allowed) in 144.0 innings while the opposition posted a 5.06 earned run average (101 earned runs) in 139.2 innings. Junior pitcher-outfielder Sarah Mueller’s (Santa Clarita, Calif./Valencia) team-leading 14 multiple-hit games in 39 encounters to date this season is one shy of matching her 2007 team-high 15 multi-hit games in 48 contests.

Oilers
   The Oilers were 1-7 last week with their only win coming at home against nationally ranked Grand Valley State…On the season, sophomore Katie Ammons is leading the team with a .355 batting average…She is leading the team in hits (33), runs (18), RBI’s (14) and stolen bases (8)…Junior Jeanne Hilvers is also having a good season for the Oilers…She is currently batting .337 and leads the team in doubles (5), triples (4) and RBI’s (14)…On the mound, junior Jenna Binz and freshman Lauran Orban each have three wins to pace the staff.

Golden Knights
  Gannon concluded the regular season with a 27-21 overall record and 7-13 GLIAC mark after splitting six games last week … the Lady Knights will attempt to defend their 2007 GLIAC title as the eighth seed at this weekend’s GLIAC Tournament … Gannon won at least 25 games for the 15th consecutive season … Jaclyn Corroto (Boardman, Ohio/Boardman), already Gannon’s all-time hits leader, broke Gannon’s school record for runs scored (156) and games played (206) last week … Casee Piquet (Newton Falls, Ohio/Newton Falls) hit .571 with a .667 slugging percentage last week … Piquet raised her average 48 points while hitting .750 (9-12) with runners on base … Holli Michaels (Tacoma, Wash./Curtis) and Kadie Ondrus (Curtice, Ohio/Clay) hit .529 and .474 last week, respectively … Kara Hensley (Waterville, Ohio/Anthony Wayne) concluded the regular season with 35 RBI, three shy of Gannon’s all-time top-15 single-season marks … Hannah Koenig (Erie, Pa./McDowell) is 17-of-19 in stolen bases this season, equaling the eighth-highest single-season total in school history … Koenig is 12 stolen bases shy of Laura Kitchen’s school record of 29 set in 2001 … Gannon was 19-0 this season when leading after the sixth inning until Saginaw Valley State rallied from a 2-1 deficit in the seventh inning last Friday.

Grand Valley State University
Lakers
  Senior Sarah Holland (Byron Center, Mich.) led the Lakers in runs scored with five, while senior Kristin Moleski topped the team in runs batted in with eight. GVSU’s 3-3 record on the week upped their overall record to 24-11 (9-5). Moleski hit a home run against Lake Superior State, her second of the year. She slugged a stellar .944 on the week with two doubles, two triples and one home run, while going 2-2 in stolen base attempts. Junior Nichole Woityra and Moleski both hit .444 through six games to lead the team. Senior Stephanie Cole (Ada, Mich.) led the pitching staff, going 2-1 with a 1.00 earned run average and 12 strikeouts in 21 innings pitched. Through games on April 13, the Lakers ranked 10th in Division II in triples per game (0.45), led by Holland, who ranked sixth individually (0.17). Grand Valley State is 28th in team batting average (0.32) and 26th in team slugging percentage (0.45).

Chargers
  The Hillsdale College softball team finished its GLIAC schedule last week, splitting a home doubleheader vs. Northwood University Sunday. The games were originally scheduled for April 12.The Chargers scored a season-high 13 runs in the 13-1 win in the second game Sunday. Senior Brecken Libbe broke the school’s single-season doubles record this week, now having 19 on the season. She had 15 doubles in each of her first two seasons with the team. Senior Katie Botsis moved into third place on the school’s career RBI list, with 88 in her career. She passed her coach Jamie Meyers on the list this week. Freshman Kellie Hirst hit her team-leading fifth home run of the season Sunday, driving in a career-high five runs. Senior pitcher Aimee Genter picked up her first win since 2006 on Sunday. She missed most of the 2007 season with an injury. The Chargers played 14 games in an eight-day span from April 19 through April 27.The team suffered four straight one-run losses in that span. Junior Ellen Eldridge had a hit in all 10 games the team played last week, getting 14 hits total after registering 13 hits in the team’s first 38 games of the season.

Lakers
  Sophomore first baseman Amber Kern (Clio, Mich.) played in three of LSSU’s four games last week and was 6-for-11 for a .545 average. She was 6-for-7 with five RBIs during the Lakers’ season-ending split at home against Findlay. Kern batted .238 for the season…Freshman pitcher/outfielder Jennie Elliott (Frankfort, Mich.) was 6-for-12 for the week, going 3-for-5 against Ashland and 3-for-7 against Findlay. She batted a team-leading .367 against GLIAC opponents this year and .304 overall…This is the second straight year that a freshman has led LSSU in batting…Junior infielder Rachel Hall (Southgate, Mich.) led LSSU in total hits with 30, while sophomore catcher Nichole Dunford (Chesterfield, Mich.) led in RBIs with 14…Dunford, who was the 2006-07 GLIAC Freshman of the year, batted .252 with 11 extra-base hits.

Lakers

  With a 1-0 victory over Saginaw Valley State Saturday, Mercyhurst clinched a bid to the eight-team GLIAC Tournament as the No. 7 seed…Carrina Crow capped off a fantastic week with the shutout against Saginaw Valley, allowed just six hits and no walks. Crow went 2-1 with a 0.35 ERA in three starts on the week, pitching a complete game in each outing and striking out 16 batters…Megan Houston hit a team-best .353 on the week…Freshman Michelle Schmitz hit her first career homer in a 5-3 loss to Saginaw Valley in the second game of the doubleheader Saturday. She broke out of a slump to bat .313 in six starts this week…Mercyhurst will compete in the GLIAC Tournament this weekend as the No. 7 seed. The Lakers have proven that they are capable of making noise in the tournament as they have recorded victories over No. 1 seed Wayne State and No. 3 seed Saginaw Valley State.

Timberwolves
   Northwood went 6-4 last week, including a 4-2 mark in conference play and earned a position in the GLIAC Tournament ... the Timberwolves are the No. 6 seed in the event and will open play against rival Saginaw Valley Friday morning at 10 a.m. ... the Timberwolves got big weeks of production out of senior first baseman Korey Scluckibier (Reese, Mich.) and sophomore pitcherAlicia Brandenberg (Sabillasville, Md./Catoctin) ... Schluckbier hit.333 with four home runs and 13 RBI’s in 10 games played ... all four of her home runs came in GLIAC games ... in NU’s sweep of Mercyhurst, Schluckbier drove in six runs ... she then had two home runs and four RBI’s in two games against Gannon ... Schluckbier currently leads the GLIAC in home runs in all games (10) and in GLIAC play (seven) ... Brandenburg had a 6-0 record, earning all of Northwood’s victories for the week ... she posted an ERA of 1.37, striking out 25 batters in 35 2/3 innings of work ... after defeating Ferris State and Tiffin in non-GLIAC play, Brandenburg won both ends of a GLIAC Doubleheader against Mercyhurst, allowing no runs in 9 2/3 innings of work ... she then defeated Gannon on Saturday and Hillsdale on Sunday ... Brandenburg is currently on a seven-game winning streak.

Saginaw Valley State University
Cardinals
  The Cardinals will play eight games in five days this week, and currently rank third in the GLIAC in slugging percentage (.399) and triples (10) as well as homeruns (18). They’ve been a handful on the base paths, ranking second in the conference with 47 stolen bases and currently lead the GLIAC with only one double play turned against them this season. The pitching staff is third in the GLIAC with a 2.06 ERA and .223 opponent batting average, and fourth in the conference in strikeouts (183). They are also among the league leaders in saves, tied for first with five. They have allowed the third least amount of hits (202) and second least amount of runs (87). They’ve walked the least amount of batters (36). The defense has also been stellar, surrendering the second least amount of errors this season (41). Stacy Kraatz is currently second in the GLIAC in batting average (.388), sixth in RBIs (24), and tied for second in homeruns (6). She is also second in the GLIAC in ERA (1.49) and third in opponent batting average (.188) while being tied for second in victories (11). Freshman Jade Fulton has continued her excellent freshman campaign as she is currently fifth in the GLIAC in ERA (1.74) and opponent batting average (.211). She is also third in the conference with 90 strikeouts in only 88.2 innings pitched. She also has tallied four saves this year, placing her one away of the SVSU career saves record of five.

Wayne State University
Warriors
   Wayne State went 2-2 last week with doubleheader splits at Ferris State and at Grand Valley to earn a share of the GLIAC regular-season title and the No. 1 seed for the conference tournament … it was the third consecutive either outright or co regular-season league title … WSU was the outright champion in 2007 and shared the crown with Northwood in 2006 … Wayne State also claimed first place in 2002, while earning runner-up honors in 2003 and 2004 (had the most wins, but not the highest winning percentage) … the Warriors led the GLIAC in team pitching with a 0.83 earned-run average, while also leading the loop with 136 strikeouts and 89 hits allowed … senior catcher Sarah Berry (Acton, Ont.) finished fourth in league batting .407 (24-59) and total bases per game (2.00), second in RBI (19), third in on-base percentage (.470) and sixth in slugging percentage (.644) … defensively Berry was third in total chances and first in fielding percentage … she also threw out 43 percent of opposing base stealers (the highest percentage of any backstop that had at least seven attempts against) … senior pitcher Molly Yetman (Cambridge, Ont.) was tops in the GLIAC in wins (11), strikeouts (103), opponent batting average (.141) and innings pitched (74.2) … Yetman also tied for the league lead in shutouts (4), complete games (8) and games started (11) … her 14 strikeouts vs. Lake Superior was a GLIAC league high for 2008.
