Ashland University
Eagles
Ashland totaled a 4-2 week, sweeping Findlay and splitting twinbills with Northwood and Saginaw Valley State. The Eagles have split five GLIAC doubleheaders this season…in the game one victory over Findlay, 10 different Eagles tallied a base hit, led by freshman right fielder Erica Miller (Indianapolis, IN/Franklin Central), who went 3-for-4 and scored twice. In the nightcap, Miller also went 3-for-4, added three RBI, and tied a school record with five runs scored. That has not been done since former Eagle Leslie Hubbell accomplished the feat in 1993 against Kentucky Wesleyan. Miller leads AU in batting average (.339), runs (18), and hits (39) and is second in RBI (15)…senior third baseman Kristen McGaughey (Massillon, OH/Jackson) hit .381 with a homer and eight runs batted in for the week. She now ranks third in Ashland history with 18 home runs and is sixth with 84 RBI…this is the 16th straight season Ashland has won at least 20 games. Head coach Sheilah Gulas has coached 12 of those years. AU has never had a losing record under Gulas and the last time Ashland failed to win 20 games was in 1992, when the team went 17-14…freshman lefty Logan Hursey (Zanesville, OH/John Glenn) had a 1.40 ERA and tossed three complete games, yet was just 1-2 for the week. She allowed just four earned runs, but AU provided only three runs in the two losses.

Bulldogs
The Bulldogs posted a 5-1 mark last week, which included a sweep of nationally-ranked archrival Grand Valley State on Wednesday (April 16) at the FSU Varsity Softball Field in Big Rapids, Mich. Both games were decided by a single run. Ferris totaled 28 runs and gave up only two in posting a decisive sweep over Lake Superior State on Saturday (April 19) in Big Rapids. The Bulldogs took game one 13-0 in five innings and came back to score a 15-2 triumph in a five-inning second game versus the Lakers. FSU split two non-league games at Tiffin (Ohio) on Sunday (April 20). After dropping a 4-3 decision in game one, the Bulldogs bounced back to post a 16-3 victory in the second game, which lasted only five innings. Ferris State hit three home runs in its second-game win at Tiffin. Senior Katie Kraai and juniors Sarah Mueller and Amanda Jager all homered in the contest as the Bulldogs outhit the Dragons 17-10 for the game. Junior pitcher Sarah Mueller (Santa Clarita, Calif./Valencia) recorded a 3-0 mark in the pitching circle last week. Mueller threw 13 innings for the week and gave up only three runs and 15 hits while recording seven strikeouts and a 1.62 earned run average.

Oilers
The Oilers were 1-7 last week with their only win coming at home against nationally ranked Grand Valley State…On the season, sophomore Katie Ammons is leading the team with a .355 batting average…She is leading the team in hits (33), runs (18), RBI’s (14) and stolen bases (8)…Junior Jeanne Hilvers is also having a good season for the Oilers…She is currently batting .337 and leads the team in doubles (5), triples (4) and RBI’s (14)…On the mound, junior Jenna Binz and freshman Lauran Orban each have three wins to pace the staff.

Golden Knights
Gannon went 1-3 during its final GLIAC road trip to Wayne State and Hillsdale last weekend … enters the final week tied for the eighth (and final) GLIAC Tournament spot … Jaclyn Corroto (Boardman, Ohio/Boardman) became Gannon’s all-time hit leader Sunday at Hillsdale, recording her 234th career hit … Corroto surpassed Sarah Kane’s (1998-01) previous record of 232 … Corroto has scored 152 career runs, four shy of Larissa Smith’s (1994-97) school record … Corroto, who snapped a 5-5 tie Sunday with a two-out, three-run homer in the bottom of the sixth inning, raised her average 25 points last week by hitting .500 (6-12) in four games … Kara Hensley (Waterville, Ohio/Anthony Wayne) was the only other Lady Knight to hit over .300 last week, posting a .333 average … Hensley hit her fifth homer of the season at Hillsdale, a three-run shot … Gannon is 17-0 this season when leading after the sixth inning.

Grand Valley State University
Lakers
Senior Sarah Holland (Byron Center, Mich.) led the Lakers in runs scored with five, while senior Kristin Moleski topped the team in runs batted in with eight. GVSU’s 3-3 record on the week upped their overall record to 24-11 (9-5). Moleski hit a home run against Lake Superior State, her second of the year. She slugged a stellar .944 on the week with two doubles, two triples and one home run, while going 2-2 in stolen base attempts. Junior Nichole Woityra and Moleski both hit .444 through six games to lead the team. Senior Stephanie Cole (Ada, Mich.) led the pitching staff, going 2-1 with a 1.00 earned run average and 12 strikeouts in 21 innings pitched. Through games on April 13, the Lakers ranked 10th in Division II in triples per game (0.45), led by Holland, who ranked sixth individually (0.17). Grand Valley State is 28th in team batting average (0.32) and 26th in team slugging percentage (0.45).

Chargers
Each of the last three doubleheaders played by the Hillsdale College softball team has ended in a split, with four of those games being decided by one run…The Chargers stayed in contention for a spot in the GLIAC tournament thanks to a 2-2 mark vs. Gannon and Mercyhurst at home over the weekend…Hillsdale is in seventh place in the GLIAC as of Monday morning, and the top eight teams in the conference qualify for the conference tournament, slated for May 2-4 in Midland…The team’s offense picked up during the week also, scoring four or more runs in seven of the eight games it played during the week…Senior Brecken Libbe had six doubles during the week, giving her 16 for the season…She had 15 in each of her first two seasons with the Chargers…Senior Katie Botsis matched freshman Kellie Hirst with her team-leading fourth home run of the season…Junior pitcher Ellen Eldirdge won all three games during the week for the Chargers, and leads all of the team’s pitchers with five wins this season…Hillsdale will host Saginaw Valley State at 3:30 p.m. Monday in a makeup game originally scheduled for April 13…The Chargers will host Northwood University on April 27 in a makeup doubleheader originally scheduled for April 12.

Lake Superior State University
Lakers
LSSU must win its final four regular-season games to have a shot at berth in the eight-team GLIAC Tournament… Senior center fielder April Brandt (White Cloud, Mich.) batted .375 and totaled four extra-base hits and 12 RBIs to lead the Lakers last week. During LSSU’s 3-2 and 7-4 victories at Alma, she led off LSSU’s opening game-winning rally with a double and scored the winning run. She also hit the game-tying solo home run in the nightcap. She was 1-for-5 against GVSU and 1-for-3 against Ferris State. Defensively, she totaled seven putouts and one assist…Freshman infielder Chelsea Maynard (Marquette, Mich.) was 3-for-10 for .300…The Lakers are scheduled to play their only home double-header on Friday against Findlay. Home games scheduled for April 19-21 were moved to Big Rapids and Allendale due to wet field conditions in Sault Ste. Marie.

Lakers
Mercyhurst went 2-6 in eight games this week but split a pair of doubleheaders against GLIAC opponents to stay in the hunt for a berth in the GLIAC Tournament…At 6-10 in conference, the Lakers are currently tied with Gannon for the final playoff spot…Mercyhurst freshman Amanda Norman outdueled the GLIAC’s defending Player of the Year Molly Yetman as the Lakers stunned GLIAC-leading Wayne State 3-1 in the opener of a doubleheader Sunday…Another freshman pitcher, Kari Amboyer, got just her second career start, throwing all eight innings of a 2-1 extra inning victory over Hillsdale. It was the first victory of her career…Danielle Zubek hit a two-out solo homer in the bottom of the seventh in that win over Hillsdale to send the game to extra innings…Senior captain Jessica McNurlen continued in her bid to win the GLIAC’s triple crown, hitting .375 on the week with three homers and five RBI. Heading into Sunday’s games, she led the conference in homers and RBI and ranked second in batting average…McNurlen also entered Sunday leading the GLIAC in slugging, hits, triples, and total bases…Elizabeth Maier hit .471 in 17 at bats on the week…Amber Rapose had only four hits in 24 at-bats but did slug a pair of home runs.

Timberwolves
Northwood went 4-4 last week, which included a 3-3 mark in GLIAC play … NU split at Saginaw Valley in a non-GLIAC matchup before being swept at Wayne State … the Timberwolves then came home and split versus Ashland before sweeping Findlay … by going 3-1 over the weekend in GLIAC play, the Timberwolves moved from 10th to sixth in the league standings … Jamie Swick (Temperance, Mich./Bedford) was placed in the starting lineup this week and did a solid job at the plate for Northwood, batting .444 … Michelle Boscola (Broomfield, Colo./Legacy) hit a pair of home runs in the week and finished the week with a team-best six RBI’s … Sam Thacker (Lincoln Park, Mich.) also hit the ball well for Northwood, batting .333 for the week … so also added a .467 on-base percentage … freshman pitcher Megan Eddy (Merrill, Mich.) had a strong week in the circle, finishing with a 0.34 ERA in four appearances while going 2-0 … she allowed one earned run in 20 2/3 innings of work while holding opponents to a .173 batting average … Northwood has a busy final week of the regular season – the Timberwolves will host Ferris State Tuesday in a non-GLIAC doubleheader, Tiffin Wednesday before traveling to Mercyhurst, Gannon and Hillsdale over the weekend.

Saginaw Valley State University
Cardinals
The Cardinals will play eight games in five days this week, and currently rank third in the GLIAC in slugging percentage (.399) and triples (10) as well as homeruns (18). They’ve been a handful on the base paths, ranking second in the conference with 47 stolen bases and currently lead the GLIAC with only one double play turned against them this season. The pitching staff is third in the GLIAC with a 2.06 ERA and .223 opponent batting average, and fourth in the conference in strikeouts (183). They are also among the league leaders in saves, tied for first with five. They have allowed the third least amount of hits (202) and second least amount of runs (87). They’ve walked the least amount of batters (36). The defense has also been stellar, surrendering the second least amount of errors this season (41). Stacy Kraatz is currently second in the GLIAC in batting average (.388), sixth in RBIs (24), and tied for second in homeruns (6). She is also second in the GLIAC in ERA (1.49) and third in opponent batting average (.188) while being tied for second in victories (11). Freshman Jade Fulton has continued her excellent freshman campaign as she is currently fifth in the GLIAC in ERA (1.74) and opponent batting average (.211). She is also third in the conference with 90 strikeouts in only 88.2 innings pitched. She also has tallied four saves this year, placing her one away of the SVSU career saves record of five.

Warriors
Wayne State went 7-3 last week including a 6-2 mark in eight home league games … senior Robyn Haig (Waterloo, Ont.) led the Warriors offensively by batting .379 (11-29) and leading the squad in doubles (4), RBI (8) and on-base percentage (.455) … senior Sarah Berry (Acton, Ont.) drove in seven runs and was walked four times … senior Lindsey Perry had four extra-base hits including her first home run of the season … she had a .587 slugging percentage (17 total bases in 29 at bats) last week … WSU finished the home portion of its regular-season schedule with a 10-2 mark … 10 different players had at least two RBI last week … junior hurler Lauren Warkentien (East China, Mich.) went 2-0 last week with a 0.62 earned-run average … senior pitcher Molly Yetman (Cambridge, Ont.) had a 4-2 mark and struck out 53 batters in 36.1 innings to become WSU’s career leader in strikeouts (505) … since starting the season 8-9, Wayne State has compiled a 19-3 mark … the Warriors have six games remaining in the regular season starting with conference doubleheaders this Friday (at Ferris State) and Saturday (at Grand Valley) followed by a non-league twinbill at Detroit Mercy on April 29.
