Eagles
The Eagles went 3-1 with a sweep of Malone and a split against Ferris State. The loss in game two to FSU snapped Ashland’s six-game win streak…against Malone, senior designated player Amanda Thomas (Ashley, OH/Buckeye Valley) combined to go 7-for-7, pushing her consecutive hit streak to eight at-bats. That is the second time in her career she has achieved such a feat, as she notched eight straight hits in 2007 against Northern Kentucky and Saginaw Valley State. Thomas hit .615 (8-of-13) for the week…junior pitcher Shannon Gray (Nova, OH/Crestview) retired 30 straight batters over two games. She set down the last 17 batters in a 4-0 win over Mercyhurst on April 6 and the first 13 batters of the opening game against Malone. Gray recorded a save in the 3-2 win over Ferris State…freshman outfielder Erica Miller (Indianapolis, IN/Franklin Central) paced the Eagles with six RBI, which gives her 10 for the year, tied for second most on the team. Miller leads the Eagles in hitting with a .337 average…after Wednesday’s doubleheader with Findlay, Ashland heads out on the road for four consecutive twinbills. The Eagles swing through Michigan, taking on Northwood, Saginaw Valley State, and Lake Superior State from Saturday to Monday (April 19-21). AU’s next home games will then be on April 26 against Ohio Valley. That doubleheader is scheduled to be played at Akron Firestone Stadium at 1 p.m.

Bulldogs
The Bulldogs earned a series’ road split with both Findlay and Ashland over the weekend (April 12-13). Ferris State scored four runs in the first inning and cruised to a 8-2 triumph in game one of its league doubleheader versus Findlay on Saturday (April 12) afternoon at Riverside Park in Findlay, Ohio. Ferris State responded nicely from its opening game loss to post a decisive 9-0 triumph over Ashland in six innings of a GLIAC nightcap on Sunday (April 13) afternoon at AU’s Brookside Park in Ashland, Ohio. The Bulldogs, who dropped a 3-2 decision in the first game of the twinbill, came back to score multiple runs in four different innings of game two while improving to 18-11 overall and 9-3 in GLIAC action this campaign. Junior Krystle Bailey (Wyoming/Rogers) also tallied her first home run of the season to account for the final two runs of Sunday’s second game win at Ashland as the contest ended in the sixth. Ferris suffered a 3-2 league setback to Ashland under windy and rainy conditions in the first game of Sunday’s league doubleheader at Brookside Park. The Eagles grabbed a 3-0 advantage with all three runs coming on four hits in the bottom of the second inning. FSU bounced back to score once in the fifth and once again in the sixth, but left the tying run stranded on third base in its final at-bat in the seventh inning.

Oilers
The Oilers went 1-3 last week with two losses at Northern Kentucky and a split at home with Ferris State…The Oilers hit the long ball this week, racking up three homeruns…Junior Jaccie Tufts, senior Jessica Rolston and sophomore Katie Ammons all had homeruns during the four games…Ammons had the best day of any Oilers hitter this season in the Oilers 7-6 win over the Bulldogs by going 3-for-5 with two runs and five RBI’s…Ammons is now leading the team in batting average (.338), runs (12) hits (24), RBI’s (11) and stolen bases (6).

Golden Knights
The Lady Knights went 3-1 last week, splitting a doubleheader against Mercyhurst and sweeping Lake Superior State …Gannon has won seven of their last 10 games after a season-high five-game losing streak … Kara Hensley (Waterville, Ohio/Anthony Wayne) hit .462 with a 1.077 slugging percentage last week … Hensley went 5-for-6 with five runs, two home runs, and six RBI during a sweep of Lake Superior State … Gannon was 15-of-15 in stolen base attempts last week as Hannah Koenig (Erie, Pa./McDowell) and Holli Michaels (Tacoma, Wash./Curtis) both went 5-for-5 … six Lady Knights hit over .300 last week as the team hit .368 combined … Koenig produced the best weekly average with a .600 mark (6-10) … Jaclyn Corroto (Boardman, Ohio/Boardman) moved into Gannon’s all-time top five in RBI (116) last week … Corroto needs four hits to tie Gannon’s all-time record (232) and six runs to tie that mark (156) … Lauren Soldner (Sylvania, Ohio/Sylvania Southview) moved into Gannon’s all-time top five in innings pitched (504.1) last week .. .Soldner ranks third all-time in strikeouts (460) and fourth in victories (55) … Gannon is 16-0 this season when leading after the sixth inning.

Lakers
The Lakers remain 21-8 (6-2 GLIAC) after having all three double-headers cancelled this past week. Through games on April 6, The Lakers ranked 32nd in team batting average (.320) and 39th in team ERA (2.06). They also ranked seventh in triples per game (.45), led by senior Sarah Holland, who ranks eighth (.17). Fellow senior Elizabeth Smith ranks 16th in runs batted in per game (1.13). Senior Stephanie Cole ranks 24th in walks allowed per game (1.03).

Chargers
The Hillsdale College softball team lost all six games it played last week, but had four rescheduled because of bad weather…The Chargers will now host Saginaw Valley State at 3:30 p.m. on Monday, April 21, and will host Northwood at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 27…The team had been scheduieldto host those schools this weekend…Freshman pitcher Kellie Hirst struck out a career-high 10 batters vs. Tiffin April 6 and appeared in four of the team’s six games last week…Freshman Jordan Kellie hit her third home run of the season vs. Tiffin April 6…The team has 15 home runs this season compared to 10 for its opponents…Hirst leads the team with four home runs, while Kellie, Brecken Libbe and Katie Botsis each have three home runs…The Chargers are on the road for four more non-league games this week, at Missouri-St. Louis and Quincy.

Lakers
LSSU is scheduled to play host to Ferris State and Grand Valley during its home-opening weekend, but the games may be moved to a neutral venue due to poor field conditions in Sault Ste. Marie…Sophomore catcher/designated hitter Nichole Dunford (Chesterfield, Mich.) batted .417 with four extra-base hits during last weekend’s games at Gannon and Mercyhurst. She was 3-for-6 with a triple and a double at Gannon Saturday. During Sunday’s twinbill at Mercyhurst, she was 2-for-6 with a double and a home run. Dunford is batting .298 with 11 extra-base hits for the season…Sophomore first baseman Amber Kern (Clio, Mich.) was 5-for-11 for a team-high .455 at the plate last weekend. She is batting .211 for the season…Freshman pitcher Jennie Elliott (Frankfort, Mich.) is 4-4 with the team’s best ERA of 4.50. She is also second on the team in overall batting with a .288 average and five home runs. Elliott is tied for first in the GLIAC in home runs.

Lakers
The Lakers went 3-1 on the week to move to 17-19 overall and move back into contention for a GLIAC playoff spot with a 4-8 conference record…The squad split with rival Gannon before sweeping Lake Superior State Sunday…Freshman Kara Gorgos went 6-for-13 on the week and had a .533 on-base percentage. She was 3-for-3 with four runs scored in the 9-4 win over Lake Superior State…Brittany Strier appeared in all four games for the Lakers as a relief pitcher, recording two saves and a 1.50 ERA in 4 2/3 innings pitched…Jessica McNurlen hit two homers and drove in four runs in the Lakers’ 9-4 win over Lake Superior State. She now has 14 multi-hit games this year and leads the team with 17 extra-base hits (five homers)…Freshman pitcher Amanda Norman picked up two victories on the mound to improve to 7-9 on the year.

Timberwolves
The Northwood softball team had both of its scheduled doubleheaders postponed last week ... the Timberwolves were scheduled to take on Hillsdale Saturday and Wayne State ... NU and Hillsdale will make up their doubleheader April 27, while the games against Wayne State will be made up at a date to be determined ... NU has a busy week of action this week, taking on Saginaw Valley in a non-league doubleheader Wednesday, Aquinas Thursday, Ashland Saturday and Findlay Sunday.

Cardinals
Saginaw Valley will look to get back to action this week after all of their games last week were postponed. The Cardinals will play eight games this week in a five day stretch. So far this season SVSU ranks fifth in hitting (.280), fourth in pitching (2.18) and third in fielding (.959). Junior ace Stacy Kraatz ranks second in the GLIAC with a 1.37 ERA and the Cardinals rank fourth overall as a team (2.18). Kraatz has also leads the Cardinals in most offensive categories, average (.387), hits (36), RBI’s (16), Homeruns (4), and total bases (55). She is tied for the GLAIC lead in home runs (4), fourth in runs scored (20) and is tied fourth in hits (36). Freshman Jade Fulton (Byron, Mich./Byron HS) sits fourth in the GLIAC in strikeouts (74) and leads the GLIAC in saves (4). Marsha Beaubein (Alpena, Mich.) is second on the team in batting average (.366), stolen bases (8) and home runs (3), she ranks fourth in the GLIAC in stolen bases. Angela Kaiser (Waterford, Mich./Our Lady of the Lakes) has been one of SVSU’s most consistent offensive contributors all season with a .318 batting average and her team leading nine stolen bases also ranks third in the GLIAC.

Warriors
Wayne State was unable to play any of its three scheduled doubleheaders last week due to the inclement weather … the non-league twinbill scheduled at Ferris State has been cancelled … the GLIAC doubleheader vs. Saginaw Valley will be played this Thursday at the WSU Softball Stadium … the date of the rescheduled Northwood doubleheader has not been determined … in the national statistics distributed by the NCAA last week, senior pitcher Molly Yetman (Cambridge, Ont.) is second in hits allowed per seven innings (3.04) and fourth in earned run average (0.65) … she is also 10th in strikeouts per seven innings (9.8) and 23rd in victories with 16 … other WSU players listed among the national leaders include Sarah Berry (37th in doubles per game and 84th in RBI per game) and Stephanie LeClair (37th in doubles per game and 18th in toughest to strikeout) … in terms of team rankings, WSU is 14th in earned run average (1.52) and 23rd in doubles per game (1.66) … WSU was ranked sixth in the region last week.
