Ashland lost its only match last week; a 2-1 defeat in overtime to Tiffin. Sophomore forward Casey Snyder (Tecumseh, MI) tallied AU’s goal on a header off of a free kick, while senior Sam Lytle (Wooster, OH/Walsh) picked up the assist. Snyder is tied for the team lead in goals with fellow sophomore Kelly Usher (Ashland, OH) – both players have six goals.

Junior forward Tammy Unsworth (White Lake/Walled Lake Northern) tallied the seventh game-winning goal of her career against Mercyhurst Sunday (10/7) which ranks first among the 2007 squad members. Her seven game-winners represents a tie for third place on the school’s all-time charts with Lindsey Pawloski (2002-05)... Ferris State’s 5-4 victory over nationally-ranked Mercyhurst Sunday (10/7) marked the second time in the eight all-time series meetings to date between the two teams in which the Bulldogs were the victors. FSU recorded a 3-1 win over the Lakers in the 2005 season (10/9) at Big Rapids... Senior midfielder Kristie Smilanich (Kalamazoo/Christian) is three points shy of totaling her 100th career point and is 22 points away from tying Emily Rogers’ (2000-03) 119-career points total for top scoring honors in the program’s eight-season history. Smilanich presently has 97 career points (38-31=97) in 66 matches, which includes a team-high 30 points (11-8=30) in 12 contests this fall... The Bulldogs have produced 11 more goals (22 total) in seven home matches than in five road encounters (11 total) this fall. Kristie Smilanich has generated a squad-best 18 points (6-6=18) in seven home outings and a team-leading 16 points (5-2=16) in five away contests. Senior forward Heather O’Keefe (Ada/Grand Rapids Forest Hills Central) has netted at least one goal in eight of her 12 matches this season, which includes five of her last seven to date. O’Keefe’s 24 points (10-4=24) in 12 2007 contests represents a career single-season high, eclipsing her 17 points (6-5=17) in 18 matches a season ago.

The Oilers were idle last week...Findlay will be back in action again on Monday, October 8 when they travel to Davis and Elkins College. Kick-off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. in Elkins, West Virginia.

Golden Knights
Gannon dropped both matches of a GLIAC road trip last weekend at Ferris State (4-3 in ot) and Grand Valley State (4-0) … the Lady Knights are 0-4-1 in their last five matches after posting a 7-2-0 mark in their first nine contests … Breanne Radin (Lockwood, N.Y./Spencer-Van Etten) scored her first career goal against Ferris State … Megan Joint (Erie, Pa./Mercyhurst Prep) moved into seventh place all-time at Gannon in career scoring with a goal at Ferris State, moving her career scoring total to 37 points … the Lady Knights are 4-1 at home and 3-5-1 on the road.

Grand Valley State remains ranked #1 in the NSCAA poll after defeating #23 Mercyhurst and Gannon both by scores of 4-0…Junior forward Katy Tafler (Mississauga, Ont./Cawthra Park) now has 83 goals in her career, highest career total of all-time of GVSU…Tafler also upped her career points total to 189 on Sunday, making her the all-time leading point scorer at GVSU…Tafler scored seven goals over two games this weekend, including two penalty-kick goals and two game-winning goals…Tafler tied her own second-place record for goals in a season with 25 against Gannon on Sunday…Junior goalkeeper Kristina Nasturzio (Mississauga, Ont./Cawthra Park) recorded three saves and garnered two shutouts on the week…The Lakers are currently in the midst of a 23-game home winning streak…The Lakers have also won 12 straight matches dating back to the National Championship match last season…Both streaks are GVSU all-time records…As of Sept. 30, Grand Valley ranked first in Div. II in scoring offense (4.7 gpg) and fifth in goals-against average (0.4 gapg)…Tafler is ranked first in Div. II in points per game (4.4) and goals per game (1.8) and ranked eighth in assists per game (0.8)…Nasturzio ranks second in Div. II in goals-against average (0.219) and sixth in save percentage (0.917)…The Lakers are one of just two teams in Div. II that have won every game as of Sept. 30, along with Seattle Pacific.

The No. 23 Mercyhurst Lakers dropped two games this weekend to GLIAC opponents No. 1 Grand Valley State and Ferris State… Against Grand Valley State, the Lakers just could not shut down forward Katy Tafler as she scored all four goals for the opposition…The loss was just the second of the season for the Lakers…The Lakers then traveled to Ferris State on Sunday where they were upset 5-4…Mercyhurst has not given up five goals since Oct.28, 2005...Junior midfielder Christine Rehnert scored three goals in the first ten minutes against Ferris State to give the Lakers a 3-0 advantage. Rehnert has six goals this year and two assists for a total of 14 points. She currently ranks fourth on the team in points and third in goals.

In its only action last week the Northern Michigan University women’s soccer team defeated Cardinal Stritch 4-0 in a non-conference game…This week the ‘Cats take to the road to face St. Cloud and UM-Duluth…All seven of NMU wins this season have been shutouts…NMU played to a 0-0 tie against Ashland and have lost two games via being shutout this season…Dana Stephens came off the bench to score two of NMU’s goals on Sunday, for her first two goals of the season…Renee LeBlanc had a goal against the Wolves to add to her team lead, she currently leads the team with seven goals…Dan Bush recorded her first shutout of the season on Sunday…Ashley DeKeyser had the other goal on Sunday and now has three on the season.
