Ashland University
Eagles
 Ashland was within striking distance of #12 Northern Kentucky, before falling 2-1 to the Norse. In AU’s only game of the week, freshman midfielder Alicia VanZanten (Hudson, OH) tallied a goal on an assist from freshman Erin Charnley (Brampton, ONT/St. Thomas Aquinas). It was VanZanten’s first collegiate goal and Charnley has a team-high five assists. Senior goalkeeper Marie Supanich (Sebastopol, CA/Santa Rosa Junior College) recorded seven saves for the Eagles.

  The Bulldogs were idle last week.

Oilers
 The Oilers went 2-1 last week, losing 2-0 to Tiffin and defeating Charleston and Pitt-Johnstown 3-0 and 8-0 respectively. Junior Ali Cariglio led the team by scoring three goals to go along with two assists during the week. Freshman Ashley Wheaton recorded her second and third shutouts of the year with the two wins. Cariglio, senior Jamie Thomson, and freshman Megan McCracken were all named to the all-tournament team at the Findlay Invitational.

Golden Knights

  Gannon split its opening two GLIAC matches last week, falling at Saginaw Valley State (4-0) before rebounding at Northwood (3-0). The Lady Knights are 6-2 after eight matches for the first time since 1997. Megan Joint (Erie, Pa./Mercyhurst Prep) accounted for all of Gannon’s scoring during a 3-1 victory at Northwood, recording her first career hat trick. Joint moved into eighth place all-time at Gannon with 35 career points, jumping three spots in one match. Holly Johnson (Welland, Ontario/Notre Dame) picked up her first victory of the season in goal during her first start of the season last Saturday against Northwood. Johnson earned her third career shutout in that game. Gannon’s victory at Northwood was its third consecutive win against the Timberwolves.

Grand Valley State University
Lakers
  Grand Valley State remains ranked #1 in the NSCAA poll after defeating Indianapolis 5-0 to move to 6-0-0 on the year. Junior forward Katy Tafler (Mississauga, Ont./Cawthra Park) scored her seventh and eighth goals of the year in a 5-0 win over Indianapolis. Tafler also added an assist to give her a team-leading 19 points. Fellow junior Ashley Elsass (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy Liberty) scored her fourth goal of the season, her third game-winner, to start the match. She also recorded an assist on each of Tafler’s goals. Senior Sue Christenson (Livonia, Mich./Ladywood) notched her first goal of the season on a header. Freshman Kristen Eible (Dewitt, Mich.) scored her third goal of the season. Junior Kristina Nasturzio (Mississauga, Ont./Cawthra Park) recorded one save in 75:15 of action and added to her shutout total, which is now 3.5. The Lakers out-shot the Greyhounds 22-2.

Lakers

  Mercyhurst opened conference play this weekend with matches against Northwood and #25 Saginaw Valley State. On Friday, the Lakers piled on five goals to Northwood’s one, producing a convincing 5-1 win. Sophomore Taylor Hilinksi scored two goals in the win and was joined in the scoring column by teammates Sarah Powell, Jacque Sluga, and Christine Rehnert. Junior Rebecca Heintzman played the first half of the Northwood game and allowed no goals…On Sunday, the Lakers defeated #25 Saginaw Valley by a 2-0 margin. Heintzman recorded her fourth shutout of the season against Saginaw Valley State and zero goals against on the weekend. Senior Adrienne Sluga tallied the game winner on Sunday, while sophomore Taylor Hilinski added the icing on the cake with another goal, making her total three goals on the weekend.

Northern Michigan University
Wildcats
   NMU went 1-1 on its weekend road swing through Minnesota. The Wildcats defeated Concordia-St. Paul on Friday (3-0) as Kari Buckel scored all three goals, they were her first three goals of the season. Against CSP the ‘Cats had 14 shots for the game as 10 were on target. On Sunday, the ‘Cats were shutout by Winona State (0-2). NMU has shutout its opponents in five of the seven games and are 4-0-1 in those games. For the season NMU has a 0.69 goals-against average. Renee LeBlanc leads the ‘Cats with four goals on the season. NMU will jump back into GLIAC play this week at home when they host Northwood and Saginaw Valley.

Northwood University
Timberwolves
   The Northwood University Women’s Soccer team fell to 0-6 on the season after dropping matches to Mercyhurst and Gannon last week. The Timberwolves have played five home matches this season, but will have just three of their final 13 matches in Midland. Northwood travels to Finlandia on Thursday before taking on Northern Michigan on Friday.

Saginaw Valley State University
Cardinals
   Junior forward Kim Oberski (Port Huron, Mich.) had a hat trick against Gannon on Friday for her second career three-goal match. She also had a hat trick during her freshman year in the second match of the season versus Shepherd (W.Va.). Oberski leads the team with six goals and 13 points and has a .375 shot percentage. SVSU was shutout for the first time this season against Mercyhurst on Sunday, 2-0. The Cardinals opened their brand new soccer complex this week and the ladies will not play at home again until Oct. 27 against Northwood.The next seven matches are all on the road.
