Eagles
 The Eagles began their conference season by battling to a 0-0 tie against Northern Michigan. The teams played two overtimes with neither team finding the net. NMU recorded two shots in the first overtime, while Ashland had two shots misfire in the second extra frame. Senior GK Marie Supanich (Sebastopol, CA/Santa Rosa Junior College) recorded five saves for her second shutout of the season. Ashland also lost a hard-fought match to Wheeling Jesuit, 3-2, on a rainy Sunday in Ashland. Sophomores Kelly Usher (Ashland, OH) and Casey Snyder (Tecumseh, MI) scored goals for the Eagles; both players are tied for the team lead in goals (4)..

  Senior forward Heather O’Keefe (Ada/Grand Rapids Forest Hills Central) is three points away from registering her 50th career point. O’Keefe, who presently is tied for sixth place on FSU’s all-time points leaders list with Jen Gaylor (2001-05), has compiled 47 career points (18-11=47) in 42 matches. Junior defender Julia Zilan (Wixom/Walled Lake Western) tallied her first collegiate goal at Ferris State last Sunday (9/9) in the Bulldogs’ 4-2 non-conference home loss to Indianapolis. Zilan scored on an unassisted header in the 21st minute. Zilan earned all-region honors last season while playing at Schoolcraft (Mich.) Community College. Ten of Ferris State’s 16 goals in its six matches this season have occurred in the second period. A season ago in 18 matches, the Bulldogs totaled 30 second-period goals.

 The Oilers won their first two games of the season last week with a 1-0 win over Saint Joseph’s and a 3-2 victory over Northern Michigan. Freshman Amanda Bachmayer led Findlay to their two wins by recording a goal and a pair of assists…Freshman Ashley Wheaton recorded her first career shutout in the Oilers victory over Saint Joseph’s.

Golden Knights

  Gannon was perfect in three regional matches last week, defeating Wheeling Jesuit (3-2), West Virginia Wesleyan (1-0), and the University of Charleston (3-1) … the Lady Knights are 5-1 after six matches for the first time in school history and have won five consecutive matches for the first time since 2000 … Gannon defeated Wheeling Jesuit and West Virginia Wesleyan in the same season for the first time ever … Megan Joint’s (Erie, Pa./Mercyhurst Prep) game-winning goal with 4:41 left in regulation at Wheeling Jesuit gave Gannon it’s first win over the Cardinals since 2000 … Joint moved into 11th place all-time at Gannon with 29 career points, needing three to move into Gannon’s all-time top 10 … Courtney Rowan (Mentor, Ohio/Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin) netted her second career game-winning goal during a 1-0 victory against West Virginia Wesleyan with 25:35 left in regulation … Ashleigh Jackett (Concord, Ohio/Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin) scored her first career goal with 3:31 remaining against Charleston … Tiffani Parks (Russellton, Pa./Deer Lakes) continues to be superb in goal, going 3-0 last week with a 1.00 goals against average and .824 save percentage … Parks recorded her Gannon record 12th career shutout with a 1-0 victory over West Virginia Wesleyan.

  The Lakers moved to #1 at the beginning of the week due to a loss by Metro State…GVSU advanced to 5-0 on the year with a 3-1 win over Indianapolis on Sept. 7…Junior Katy Tafler (Mississauga, Ont./Cawthra Park) scored her sixth goal of the year and added an assist in the win over Indianapolis…Freshman Kristen Eible (DeWitt, Mich.) notched her second goal of the season, a game-winner, and junior Ashley Elsass (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy Liberty) chipped in her third goal of the season… Sophomore Amber Bloem (Grandville, Mich./Cornerstone) recorded her first point as a Laker with her assist on Friday…Junior Kristina Nasturzio (Mississauga, Ont./Cawthra Park) started the season with a shutout streak of 406:16 before surrendering a goal to UIndy.

  The Lakers won both games by posting a 4-0 victory over Charleston and a 7-0 win against West Virginia Wesleyan… Junior Rebecca Heintzman posted two shutouts on the weekend, making three total on the year…Four different Lakers contributed in the win against Charleston with freshman Jamie Schroter gathering three assists…Mercyhurst scored a season high seven goals against West Virginia Wesleyan…Sophomore Taylor Hilinski earned five points on two goals and two assists, while senior Adrienne Sluga had four points on one goal and two assists…Junior Sarah Powell tallied a goal in both games this weekend, extending her goal scoring streak to eight games dating back to Oct. 28, 2006.

Wildcats
   NMU will jump out of conference this week with two games on the road at Concordia-St. Paul and Winona State … The Wildcats went 0-1-1 in its first weekend of GLIAC play…NMU saw its streak of not being scored upon extended at Ashland with the 0-0 tie, but on Sunday the streak was snapped when the Oilers took the 3-2 game…The ‘Cats after five games have a goals-against average of 0.57…Against Findlay, Amanda Gadomski scored the opening goal of the game for her second of the year…Ashley DeKeyser scored the second goal of the game against the Oilers for her second of the season…Kara Music has a 0.64 goals-against average on the season and a .897 save-percentage.

Timberwolves
   NU dropped a 3-1 contest to Alma College Friday night (Sept. 7). Alma opened scoring at the 8:05 mark, but the Timberwolves responded less than three minutes later ... Sophomore Elizabeth Fockler (Midland, Mich./Dow) took a feed from Courtney First (Midland, Mich.) and beat the keeper high from 10 yards out to even the score 1-1 ...the Scots scored at 51:07 and 57:13 in the second half to claim the victory ... for the match, Alma held a 15-4 advantage in shots and a 5-1 edge in corner kicks.

Cardinals
   The Cardinal women’s soccer team entered this week ranked 23rd in the nation marking SVSU’s first national ranking in soccer…The Cardinals are also ranked third in the Great Lakes Region with a 3-1 record…The Cardinals were idle this week but are back in action this week hosting Gannon on Friday and Mercyhurst on Sunday as they open their new soccer field.
