Ferris State University
Bulldogs
     Senior midfielder Kristie Smilanich (Kalamazoo/Christian) concluded her four-year career (2004-07) ranking second among Ferris State’s career leaders in points (103), goals (41), and assists (21). Smilanich, who became the program’s first-ever All-American last season by being named to the 2006 Daktronics NCAA-II Women’s Soccer All-America First Team, accumulated 103 career points (41-21=103) in 70 matches. She paced the Bulldogs in scoring for the second consecutive season with 36 points on 14 goals and eight assists in 16 contests this fall... Senior midfielder Nicole Sawada’s (Westfield, Ind./Carmel) eight points (2-4=8) in 19 matches this season not only marked a career single-season high, but exceeded her five points (1-3=5) in a combined 34 contests during her previous three campaigns... Ferris State’s 46 goals this season in 19 outings tied a school single-season mark which was previously held exclusively by the 2006 squad. The Bulldogs’ 132 points (46-40=132) and 40 assists this campaign represented program all-time single-season highs.

     The University of Findlay women’s soccer team was defeated at home 3-1 by Northern Michigan University on Tuesday, Oct. 30 in the opening round of the 2007 GLIACTournament. The loss ends the Oilers season as they finish 10-8 on the year... Junior forward Ali Cariglio and freshman defender Rosie Paris were selected as second team All-GLIAC players on Friday, Nove. 2. The awards were the first of their career’s with the Oilers... Cariglio led the Oilers with 19 points on the year. She scored seven goals and had a team-high five assists. Paris meanwhile had four assists from her defensive spot and started in 16 of the Oilers 18 games on the year.

     As of the last rankings (Oct. 30), Grand Valley State University was ranked #1 in the nation in the NSCAA national polls…As of the last regional polls (Oct. 31), Grand Valley State was ranked first in the Great Lakes region…GVSU has been ranked #1 in the nation for nine consecutive weeks and has been ranked #1 in the region since the first regional polls this season on Oct. 10…GVSU has now won 19 consecutive games and have not lost in 32 straight games in Allendale, Mich. (both are school records)…GVSU also set a school record by winning eight straight matches away from home this season…The Lakers won their third consecutive GLIAC title with a 4-0 win over Mercyhurst on Sunday…Junior forward Katy Tafler (Mississauga, Ont./Cawthra Park) set a school single-season record on Friday with her 34th goal…Junior keeper Kristina Nasturzio (Mississauga, Ont./Cawthra Park) notched her seventh and eighth shutouts of the year during the GLIAC Championships…Tafler was named the GLIAC Offensive Player of the Year and a member of the All-GLIAC First Team…Senior Sue Christenson (Livonia, Mich./Ladywood) was named the GLIAC Defender of the Year and a member of the All-GLIAC First Team…Freshman forward Kristen Eible (Dewitt, Mich.) was named the GLIAC Freshman of the Year and a member of the All-GLIAC First Team…Head coach Dave DiIanni was named the GLIAC Coach of the Year... GVSU is the #1 seed in the NCAA Division II Great Lakes Region and will play the winner of Mercyhurst and Quincy (Ill.) Sunday at 1 p.m.

     The Mercyhurst women’s soccer team came from behind to defeat Saginaw Valley State in the GLIAC Tournament semifinals Friday, advancing to the first ever GLIAC Tournament Championship game…The Lakers scored twice in a three-minute stretch of the second half to win 2-1..The Mercyhurst College women’s soccer team lost to unbeaten and No. 1 Grand Valley State for the second time this year, dropping a 4-0 decision Sunday in the first GLIAC Championship Game…Currently ranked No. 4 in the region, Mercyhurst will now await word on a possible NCAA Playoff bid, which is awarded to the top six teams in the region…The selections will take place Monday.

Wildcats
    NMU ended the season with a 12-5-2 record…Renee LeBlanc had a team-high nine goals and leaves the NMU program as the all-time leader in goals with 44 and points with 99…Kara Music has 13 career shutouts which is a new NMU record as she has a 0.88 career goal-against average…Kari Buckel ended the season with six goals for second on the team…Eleven of NMU’s 12 wins this season came via the shutout…Buckel, LeBlanc and Emily Lockery all scored for the Wildcats in its win at Findlay to send the team to the GLIAC semifinals…GVSU defeated the ‘Cats in the semifinals.

Saginaw Valley State University
Cardinals
     Saginaw Valley finished its season with a 2-1 loss to Mercyhurst in the second round of the GLIAC Championships…Saginaw Valley beat Ferris State 3-2 in the first round, they netted three goals in the second half to over come a two goal deficit in the first half.
