Eagles
Ashland was ranked ninth in last week’s NCAA Division II power rankings…at last year’s GLIAC championships the Eagles were second. Senior Jennifer Tinney (Norwalk, OH/Western Reserve) was tabbed as women’s field athlete of the year…junior Alissa Klaehn (Brunswick, OH) has the third best mark in the 100 hurdles (13.70) and has an automatic qualification for nationals. Klaehn also has the ninth best effort in the nation in the long jump (19-5). Tara Cooper is automatically qualified for nationals in the hammer throw and has the fourth best throw in Division II (180-1). In that same event, sophomore Elise Bottarini (Lancaster, OH) is seventh nationally and junior Michelle Stark (Amherst, OH/Steele) is eighth. Ashland also has three throwers ranked in the top eight in the shot put. Tinney is sixth, Bottarini is seventh and Cooper is eighth…in the high jump, sophomore Abby Kacsandi (Wooster, OH/Ohio University) is fourth in the high jump.

The Ferris State University women’s outdoor track and field team took part in one of the nation’s largest events at the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa. Senior Amy Woodman (Bristol, U.K.) broke the school outdoor record in the women’s long jump with a ninth-place effort (19-8.25) across all divisions. Ferris was ninth in the 4x100-meter relay (48.25), 17th in the 4x200-meter event (1:49.66) along with 19th in the 1,600-meter sprint medley relay (4:25.95) and 27th in the 4x400-meter relay (4:09.21) for the collegiate division.Meanwhile, FSU also had a number of student-athletes in competition at the 42nd annual Hillsdale “Gina” Relays. Senior thrower Kamitra Carroll (Flint/Carman-Ainsworth) tallied personal career-best efforts in the shot put (48-2) and the hammer throw (168-4). Her second-place finish in the shot put broke her own school record in the event while her sixth-place performance in the hammer throw ranks as the second-best all-time outdoor mark in Bulldog history. Freshman Tina Muir (St. Albans, U.K.) placed fifth in the 5,000-meter open division (18:26.17), freshman Paige Onweller (Lapeer/East) took 16th place in the 3,000-meter steeplechase invite field (11:42.59) and senior Sonya White (Allegan) finished 20th in the hammer throw (141-7) lead the Bulldog women’s squad. Bulldog freshman Amy Joostberns (Nashville/Lakewood) placed 15th in the discus (129-5) and was 19th overall in the javelin (103-6) for FSU.The 2008 GLIAC Multi Championships were also held in conjunction with the Gina Relays as FSU senior Dia Price (Mt. Morris/Beecher) placed seventh while sophomore Emily Cross (Riley/Armada) was 10th in the women’s heptathlon at the conference level.

Oilers
The University of Findlay women’s outdoor track and field team competed at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and the Stan Lyons Invitational in Indianapolis, Indiana on Saturday, April 26. Lisa Kaulfersch took 14th in the triple jump with a mark of 9.78 to lead the Oilers. At the Penn Relays, the Oilers 4x800 meter relay team of Kristi Comstock, Lindsey Schmitmeyer, Jessica Latham and Stephanie Charnigo finished 12th with a time of 9:14.31. The Oilers will be back in action again on May 1-2 when they compete in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championship at SVSU.

Heather VanderSlik had the best high jump in Division II so far this season, setting a school record and hitting the automatic qualifying mark for the national meet with a height of 5’8.75". VanderSlik was joined by Maegan Doyen in qualifying for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the high jump. Doyen cleared 5’7" to qualify. Three members of the women’s track team qualified in the 5000-meter run: Megan Maceratini (17:20.73), Lynsey Ardingo (17:31.68) and Amy Kolin (17:40.41). Kirsten Nozime hit the mark in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:03 flat. Three more Lakers qualified in the 1500-meter run: Katie Alfredson (4:34.76), Rebecca Winchester (4:36.71) and Susie Rivard (4:38.10). Kathie Posa and Emily Fox both hit marks at the Butler meet, with Posa’s hammer throw of 56.32 meters moving her to third in the country, and Fox’s 52.97 meters putting her on the national list. Mary Bogner also hit the mark with a throw of 44.53 meters at Houseman Fieldhouse on Wednesday.

Hillsdale College Gina Relays provides a chance for the athletes to record some outstanding performances.
Sophomore women’s track athlete Katie Hunt finished third in the heptathalon with 4,441 points. That point total qualifies her to compete at the Division II championships as well.
Hunt also was the lead runner for the 4x100 relay team that finished in third place Saturday with a time of 48.54 seconds. Hunt was joined by Circe Cansino, Marta Schiewe and Sarah Steiner on the relay team.Cansino also had a noteworthy performance in the long jump, finishing third with a leap of 18 feet, 5 1/4 inches.Schiewe finished third in the 400 meter dash (56.46 seconds).

Sophomore Katie Scott (Mitchell, Ont.) placed 12th in the 3,000-meter run at the Hillsdale “Gina” Relays. She clocked a time of 11:30.10. Scott is currently ranked ninth in the GLIAC in the event with a 10:39.60. She is ranked second in the 5,000-meter run at 18:42.48 and the 3,000-meter steeplechase at 11:43.47...Sophomore Amanade Pieczynski (Posen, Mich.) tied her school record of :12.88 in the 100-meter dash by winning the event during Tuesday’s dual meet at Northwood. She is currently ranked 19th in the GLIAC in the 100 and 15th in the 200...Sophomore Ashley Quick (Harbor Springs, Mich.) is ranked eighth in the GLIAC in the 5K at 19:08.52...Freshman Taylor Patton (Northwood, Ohio) is ranked seventh in the high jump (1.52m) and third in the triple jump (10.76m)...Sophomore Jill Walton (Kingsley, Mich.) is ranked 10th in the shot put (12.03m) and 14th in the javelin (28.39m).

Erin Ballun broke her own school record in the high jump at the GINA Relays Friday (April 25) to finish fifth with a leap of 5-7. She also finished 15th in the long jump with a mark of 17-2. Andrea Metz enjoyed much success in the distance events posting two personal bests on the weekend. She finished 12th in the 3,000 meter run in 10:31.20 and 22nd in the 1,500 meter in 4:51.74. Lauren Wiza ran the fifth fastest time in Michigan Tech history in the 3,000 meter steeplechase to finish 11th in 12:27.79. The 4x800 meter relay team of Kate Hagenbuch, Angie Curtis, Kathryn Wold and Stephanie Schiel, finished 11th in 10:19.67, the third fastest time in school history.

Leslie Luehmann who won the GLIAC heptathlon as she recorded a school record and/or a personal best in every event with a conference and school record total of 4716 points…The Wildcats placed second out of nine teams at the UW-Oshkosh Invitational on Saturday with 110 points…Danielle St. Onge won the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.69…Kaylee Laakso won the 400 (60.19) and Maegan Hendershot captured the 800 (2:24.15)…Natalie Bertucci won the 100 hurdles (15.76)…Bertucci, St. Onge, Stephanie Boyer and Callie Boik won the 4x100 relay with a time of 50.47…

The Northwood University track and field teams took part in the Gina Relays Friday and Saturday (April 25-26).No team scoring was taken at the event, which is hosted by Hillsdale. The meet is one of the biggest in the state of Michigan each season.Charonne Thomasos (Toronto, Ont./Franis Libermann) had a season-best mark of 34-5.75 in the triple jump to place 12th overall. Ashley Neuhaus (Shepherd, Mich.) finished 12th out of 58 runners in the 400 (59.03).Northwood will travel to the GLIAC Championships, hosted by Saginaw Valley State, this Thursday and Friday (May 1-2).

The SVSU Track & Field teams finished day four of the “Gina Relays” in at Hillsdale College Saturday with a number of strong finishes. The women had 13 top 25 finishers .The Cardinal women’s team had three finishers in the top ten, with the only individual finish being Leighann Dowell (Millington, Mich.) in the 100 Meter Hurdles. Dowell finished in a tie for sixth place in the event with a time of 14.79 seconds.The Lady Cardinals performed well in several relay events, finishing fourth in the 4X400 Meter relay and fifth in the 4X100 Meters.Other top 20 finshers on the women’s team included Heather Schmitz (Brighton, Mich.) in the pole vault, Christina Ferguson (Athens, Ont./Thousand Islands) in the Triple Jump, Kali Briggs (Jackson, Mich./Vandercook Lake) and Megan Haskin (Fairview, Mich.) in the Javelin, Becca Rudey (Wixom, Mich./Walled Lake Western) in the 3000 Meters, Courtney Kotewa (Essexville, Mich./Garber) in the 800 Metes, and Ashley Morrow (Millington, Mich.) and Sjonne Mitchell (Clarkston, Mich./Troy) in the 400 Meters.
