Eagles
  The Eagles were ranked first in last week’s NCAA Division II power rankings. Ashland has been the top-ranked team in the country each of the last two weeks…AU took a split squad to the Oberlin Open last Friday (Feb. 8)…junior Ana-Llia Fitzhugh (Hilliard, OH-Hilliard-Darby) won the 55-meter dash (7.64) and was second in the 200-meter dash (27.52). …freshman Tara Cooper (Circleville, OH/Logan Elm) has the longest throw in the country in the weight throw and junior Michelle Stark has the fourth best toss in the weight throw (Amherst, OH/Steele). Senior Jenn Tinney (Norwalk, OH/Western Reserve) has the second longest throw in the country in the shot put and eighth best in the weight throw…the Eagles will compete at the All-Ohio Meet this coming Saturday (Feb. 16) at Findlay..

  The women’s indoor track and field team had several solid performances as the Bulldogs’ added a meet to their schedule by taking part in the Roo Town Open hosted by the University of Akron Friday (Feb. 8) evening in Akron, Ohio. Senior Amy Woodman (Bristol, U.K.) led the way for the women’s team with a pair of top six finishes. She won the long jump (19-0.75) and took sixth overall in the 200 meters (25.72).Junior Krystle Wilson (Detroit/Trinity Catholic) emerged victorious in the 200 meters (25.72). Senior Kamitra Carroll wound up second in the shot put (42-2.75), sophomore Emily Cross (Riley/Armada) finished fourth in the high jump (5-1.25) and junior Mikinzie Stuart (Saginaw/Nouvel) placed sixth in the 3,000 meters (10:38.46). Freshman Marva Goodson (Saginaw/Bridgeport) came in sixth overall in the 400 meters (58.69).Ferris State’s next scheduled action is Friday, Feb. 15, when the Bulldogs take part in the Grand Valley State Open at the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena in Allendale, Mich. The meet begins at 5 p.m. FSU is also slated to send selected student-athletes to Saturday’s (Feb. 16) EMU Invitational beginning at 11 a.m.

 The women’s indoor track and field teams competed in two different events on Friday, February 8. New York, New York for the New Balance Invitational as well as to Ada, Ohio for the Ohio Northern University Friday Night Series. At the New Balance Invitational, Kirby Blackley finished 11th in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.49. The women were paced by Erin Lines at the Friday Night Series who recorded a pair of victories in the weight throw and shot put. Lines won the weight throw at 53’04.25 and had the best mark in the shot put after a heave of 42-10.75. Samantha Herdrich also added a first place finish for the Oilers, taking the gold in the 5000 meter run at 19:04.66. Lisa Kaulfersch was second in the triple jump at 32’07.00 while Christina Ricketts finished third in the 500 meter run with a time of 19:29.00. The Oilers 4x400 meter relay team also took a second place finish after racing to a time of 4:19.19. Erin Wright also tacked on a second place finish in the pole vault with a mark of 11’05.75.

 The women’s track team competed at three separate events this weekend. The distance medley marathon team of Katherine McCarthy, Katie Mandziara, Katie Alfredson and Kelly Gibbons took third place and provisionally qualified for the NCAA meet with a time of 11:54.23. Individually, Candice Wheat automatically qualified in the 55-meter hurdles with a second-place time of eight seconds flat. That time was also a GVSU record, topping Jenn O’Shesky’s previous record of 8.04 seconds. McCarthy also automatically qualified individually, placing ninth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:13.12. Two student-athletes also provisionally qualified individually to go along with Wheat and McCarthy’s automatic qualifying marks. Alfredson placed 24th in the 800-meter with a time of 2:16.39 and Megan Maceratini took 14th in the 5k with a time of 17:30.43. In the Roo Town Open at the University of Akron, Dianna Noonan qualified in the pole vault and took fifth place by clearing a height of 12’1.50".

   At the Boston University Terrier Invitational, junior Jazmin Williams ran 56.74 in the 400m Dash to finish in 4th place and freshman Marta Scheiwe. ran 56.76 in the same event to finish in 5th place. Both marks are provisional-qualifying marks, and currently rank Williams and Scheiwe in the Top 10 in the nation. Scheiwe also ran a provisional-qualifying time of 25.05 seconds in the 200m Dash to finish 10th. At the ONU Friday Night Meet Sarah Kauk re-established her own school record in the Pole Vault by clearing 3.66m, which ranks as the 9th best jump in NCAA Division II. That mark was also good enough for 1st place at the meet. Meanwhile, Leutheuser tossed the 20# Weight a provisional-qualifying distance of 16.02m, which also broke the school record.Other top finishers for the Chargers at Ohio Northern included Katie Hunt, who turned in three 2nd-place finishes (LJ, 55H, 200), Kelsey Schuler (1st – Triple Jump), Kristin Donovan (2nd – Shot Put), Erin Brunko (2nd – 3000m Run), Marion Gabl (3rd – 3000m Run), Christina Bailey (3rd – 55m Hurdles) and the 4x400m Relay team (3rd).The Chargers return to action next weekend with meets at the University of Findlay and Eastern Michigan University.

  Sophomore Katie Scott (Mitchell, Ont.) finished 31st, and teammate Ashley Quick (Harbor Springs, Mich.) was 57th among 79 runners in the women’s 5,000-meter run during Friday’s portion of the Boston University Valentine Invitational. Smith’s time is currently the fourth fastest in the GLIAC, while Quick’s time is ranked sixth...Freshman Taylor Patton (Northwood, Ohio) cleared 5-2 to tie for first place in the women’s high jump at NMU’s Northern Challenge. Patton also placed in the top five in the triple jump and long jump. Another top finisher for LSSU was sophomore Amanda Pieczynski (Posen, Mich.), who was sixth in the 200-meter dash (:27.44).

 The Northern Michigan University women’s track and field team hosted its only meet of the year on Saturday, the Northern Challenge…Natalie Bertucci set a new NMU record in the prelims of the 55-meter hurdles (8.52) and won the event (8.68)…Leslie Luehmann set a new NMU record in the long jump (17-11.75) by winning the event…Karin Diebold and Paris Malin tied the pole vault record (10-00)…Danielle St. Onge won the 55 dash (7.45)…Stepahnie Boyer captured the 200 (26.36) and 400 (59.61) dash…Danielle Stein won the one mile run (5:18.67)…Michele Bisig took the 3,000 run (10:53.03)…The NMU 4x400 relay of Brittnee Balbierz, Erin VanEnkevort, St. Onge and Boyer won the event with a time of 4:13.17…Krista Squiers won the weight throw (46-03.50).

   The women’s track and field teams took part in a pair of meets over the weekend.The majority of the team members took part in the Northern Michigan Challenge, while selected members competed at Collegiate Open Indoor Classic at Saginaw Valley State. Sophomore Hannah Stone (Lapeer, Mich./East) registered a NCAA Provisional time and set a school record in the 800, clocking a 2:17.72. Highlights from the SVSU meet included freshman thrower Julie Mason (Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.) recording a personal-best toss of 40-0. Bill Smith (Comstock Park, Mich.) placed fourth in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.70. NU has this week off. They will return to action at the Jack Skoog open at Central Michigan February 22.

  The women’s track and field squad had strong finishes for the Collegiate Open Indoor Classic Friday night.
Sjonne Mitchell (Clarkston, Mich.) came away with two first places, running a 7.93 in the 60 meter dash which was good enough for a new team record and a 26.34 in the 200 meter dash. Courtney Kotewa (Essexville, Mich.) ran 2:20.30 in the 800 meter run and sophomore Maggie Stalker (Oscoda, Mich.) ran 18:10.52 in the 5000 meters. Finishing second and third were Carley Burger (Linden, Mich.) and Elayna Dush (Sanford, Mich.) with times of 18:54.43 and 19:44.53. Ashley Morrow (Millington, Mich.) finished third in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:00.47. Becca Rudey (Wixom, Mich.) finished first 3000 meter run (10:15:58). Leighann Dowell (Millington, Mich.) took second place in the 60 meter hurdles ( 9.09). Heather Schmitz (Brighton, Mich.) placed third in pole vault with a height of 10 feet 6 inches. Dowell also placed second in long jump with a distance of 16 feet 11.25 inches. The Cardinals’ next track meet is at Eastern Michigan located in Ypsilanti, Mchigan, on February 16th at 9:00am .
