Ashland University’s women’s golf team placed sixth out of 18 teams at the Lenoir-Rhyne Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate Invitational, held Oct. 8-9.Ashland’s final team score was 653. Berry (639) took home the team championship with Pfeiffer (643) holding off Montevallo (645) for second place. Tusculum (650) was fourth and Belmont Abbey (652) was fifth.Montevallo’s Morgan Bell was the medalist (148). Ashland’s top score was turned in by Christine Suchy, who shot 159 and finished in a tie for 11th place. Bridget Slonkosky (162) tied for 18th place.

Bulldogs
Ferris State will be participating in the Nova Southeastern Shark Invitational Oct. 15-16 at the Squire Country Club in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. The Bulldogs, under ninth-year head coach Brad edortha, retained their third-place ranking in the second Golf World/National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA) Women’s Golf Coaches’ Top 25 Poll. The poll was released Wednesday, Oct. 3. Ferris received 348 points to finish 36 points in front of fourth-place Grand Valley State (312 pts.). Florida Southern remained number one with a 394-points total. Senior Becky Hoffman (Swartz Creek) is tied for sixth place in par three scoring at 3.17 in the latest (Oct. 5) Golfstat NCAA Division II rankings. Freshman Jacqueline Benscoter (Metamorra/Lapeer West) is in ninth place (2.33) for subpar strokes per round. Hoffman currently has posted a squad-leading 77.00 stroke average (1,001 total strokes) in 13 rounds this fall while Benscoter ranks third among the team leaders with a 78.08 average (937 total strokes) in 12 rounds to date.

University of Findlay
Oilers
The University of Findlay women’s golf team tied for first at the Gannon University Invitational on Monday, October 8 in Erie, Pennsylvania with a 621 but lost in a scorecard playoff to Allegheny College. Individually, Stephanie Gillette took home medalist honors for the Oilers after firing a 73 in both the first and second rounds. Her 146 led the field at the Downing Golf Course. Erin Craig (156), Andrea Vogt (157), Alyssa Nigro (170), Kristy Homan (170) and Megan Hall (171) also competed for the event. The Oilers will be back in action again on at the University of Dayton Invitational held in Dayton, Ohio on October 29-30.

Gannon University
Golden Knights
The Gannon women’s golf team completed its fall season Monday afternoon with a fourth-place finish while hosting the Gannon Invitational at Downing Golf Course. Allegheny College held on to win the team title with a two-day total of 621 (305-316). Findlay (314-307-621) rallied from a nine-stroke deficit on the final day to tie Allegheny, but the Gators won the tie-breaker and were declared the champions. Kutztown (318-320-638), Gannon (319-326-645), and Northwood (329-317-646) completed the top five. Findlay’s Stephanie Gillette captured the individual title with a two-round score of 146. Gillette was tied with Gannon’s Jess Slonaker (Sunbury, Pa./Shikellamy) after the first round, but was three strokes better then Slonaker on the final day. Slonaker shot rounds of 73 and 76. Christa Cox (T3rd, 77-77-154), Whitney Burkett (T33rd, 86-86-172), Allyssa Ferriell (T38th, 89-87-176), and Tarin Fedrizzi (45th, 93-89-182) completed Gannon’s six-member team. Amanda Eckhart was tied for 21st place with an 83 during the first round, but withdrew from the final round. Emily Quinn (T38th, 87-89-176), Brooke Pyle (43rd, 92-88-180), and Abby Welker (WD, 100-WD) also competed as individuals.

Lakers
Grand Valley State finished in third place at the Shoot-out at the Legends in Franklin, Ind...GVSU was the only Division II school in the 13 team tournament, as they played against 12 Division I schools...The Lakers shot a three round total of 908, falling just shy of second place Illinois who had a 907...Eastern Michigan won the tournament with a score of 888...Grand Valley was in eighth place after recording a 308 in the first round, but came back to shoot a 297, which was the lowest score in the second round...GVSU recorded the second lowest score in the third round, a 303, to finish the tournament with a 908...The Lakers were led by freshman Allie Tyler who tied for fifth place overall with an eight over par, 224...She tallied a 76 in the first round, 75 in the second round, and finished with a 73 in round three...Sophomore Ashley Smith posted a 227, which tied her for ninth place...Smith started off with a 78, then came back with a 73 and 76...Sophomore Caitlin Bennett recorded a 228, tying for 12th place overall...Bennett shot an 80 in the first round, but fired a 72 in the second and a 76 in the third round to finish 12 strokes over par...Freshman Kristina Langton tied for 19th place with a 230 as she fired a 75, 77, and a 78...Sophomore Caitlin Duval posted a 238 (76, 76, 86) for 37th place, while senior Tracey Puckering tied for 47th place with a 242 (79, 78, 85)...The tournament concludes the fall portion of the Lakers schedule and they will resume play in the spring.

Lakers
The Mercyhurst women’s golf team finished eighth at the Gannon Invitational on Monday. Juniors Caitlin Cummings and Alanna Kirwan led the team by finishing tied for 25th individually. The Lakers shot a team combined score of 343 (+55) on day two after shooting a 338 (+50) on day one. Following Cummings and Kirwan for Mercyhurst was fellow juniors Mattye Laurer (T30) and Kaitlin Brody (T33). The Lakers will return to the links for its last fall contest at Allegheny College.

Timberwolves
The Northwood University women’s golf team finished fifth at the Gannon Fall Invitational Monday afternoon (October 8).The Timberwolves shot their two lowest 18-hole team scores of the year at the event, carding rounds of 329 and 317 to finish at 646. Allegheny College was the overall winner, defeating Findlay in a playoff after both teams finished at 621.The Timberwolves placed three players in the top-20 individually, led by Paige Molnar (Corunna, Mich). She shot 80-75 to finish in a tie for 5th overall. Lotte Voermans (Tilburg, Netherlands) tied for 12th at 158 (81-77), while Anna Trim (Clarkston, Mich.) tied for 19th after shooting 82-83to finish at 165.Northwood has now completed their fall schedule.
