Ashland University
Eagles
  AU placed fourth out of 11 teams Sunday and Monday at the Findlay Invitational. Freshman Christine Suchy (Strongsville, OH/Florida Southern) finished in a tie for 12th. The Eagles began the weekend by competing at the Northwood Invitational. Ashland was fourth out of seven teams at NU. Freshman Annie Miles (Dublin, OH/Bishop Watterson) finished in a tie for 12th.

Bulldogs
  With four top 10 individual finishers, nationally-ranked Ferris State captured the Northwood Invitational (Sept. 28-29) with a two-round 605 team stroke total on the par 72, 6,034-yard Currie Golf Course in Midland, Mich. The Bulldogs carded a school-record tying 296 first-round score and then a 309 in the final round to lead the seven-team tournament field. Junior Raquel Hansen (West Olive/Grand Haven) placed second with a 148 score (71-77=148, +4) after losing in a playoff for medalist honors. Junior Alison Meyer (Duluth, Minn./Central) placed among the top five by tallying a 151 (73-78=151, +7) to garner fourth place. Senior Missy Ward (Fenton/Linden) carded a season-best 153 (75-78=153, +9) to tie for ninth place while senior Becky Hoffman’s (Gaines/Swartz Creek) 154-stroke total (78-76=154, +10) was good for a 10th-place tie. Freshman Jacqueline Benscoter (Metamorra/Lapeer West) shot a six-over-par 150 (77-73=150) to finish third in a non-scoring capacity... The Bulldogs’ 605 team score tied for the third-best two-round stroke total in the program’s history while the opening-round 296 score tied a school single-round mark which was set on four prior occasions – Ferris State Bulldog Invitational (9/4/04), Northwood Invitational (10/1/05), and at the NCAA Division II East Regional (5/1-2/07) in Big Rapids, Mich... Ferris posted back-to-back rounds of 311 at Findlay’s William “Bing” Beall Classic (Sept. 30-Oct. 1) to claim runner-up honors with a 622 team score (+46) in the 36-hole tourney at Arlington, Ohio. Becky Hoffman led the way with a fifth-place 152 (79-73=152, +8) on the par 72, 5,907-yard Sycamore Springs Golf Club course. Alison Meyer was ninth with a 155 (80-75=155, +11) while Missy Ward tied for 10th place on the leaderboard as a result of a 157 score (74-83=157, +13). Junior Meghan Hunter (Dexter) participated as an individual and tied Hoffman for fifth place by tallying a 152 (77-75=152, +8)...FSU is now idle until Oct. 15-16 when the Bulldogs competed in the Nova Southeastern Shark Invitational at Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.

Oilers
  The University of Findlay women’s golf team took fifth place at the William Bing-Beall Classic on Monday, October 1 at the Sycamore Springs Golf Course in Arlington, Ohio. The Oilers fired a 334 on the first day and came back with a 331 in the second round for a total of 665... Grand Valley State University won the event with a 602 (298, 304) while the Lakers’ Ashley Smith won medalist honors after carding a 147 (71, 76)... The Oilers were led by Andrea Vogt and Stephanie Gillette, who finished tenth and 12th respectively at the event. Vogt carded a 157 (76, 81) while Gillette came in at 158 (85, 73)... UF took fifth place at the Northwood University Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 29 with a two round score of 668. The Oilers fired a 324 during the first round and came back with a 344 in the second round to fall behind Ferris State University, who won the event with a 605 ... The Oilers were led by Stephanie Gillette, who carded a 160 (77, 83). Her score was good for 16th at the event... The Oilers will be back in action again on October 7-8 when they compete in the Gannon University Invitational held in Erie, Pennsylvania.

Golden Knights
  he Gannon women’s golf team fell one spot during the final round and finished ninth out of 11 teams at the William Beall Fall Classic hosted by the University of Findlay last Monday. GU was in eighth place after shooting a 352 on Sunday, but finished ninth with a 355 on Monday. The Lady Knights finished with a tournament score of 707. Jess Slonaker (Sunbury, Pa./Shikellamy) was Gannon’s top golfer, tying for 18th place with a 160. The junior shot rounds of 79 and 81. Whitney Burkett (T42nd, 91-85-176), Amanda Eckhart (T50th, 92-90-182), Allyssa Ferriell (T62nd, 90-102-192), and Brooke Pyle (T62nd, 93-99-192) completed Gannon’s five-member team. Emily Quinn also competed as an individual, tying for 50th place with a 182 (92-90). GU concludes its fall schedule Oct. 7-8 by hosting the Gannon Invitational at Downing Golf Course.

Lakers
  GVSU finished in second place at the Northwood Invitational on Saturday…The Lakers posted a 307 in the first round on Friday and a 304 in the final round on Saturday for a two day total of 611…GVSU finished six strokes behind winner Ferris State (605)…The Lakers trailed by 11 strokes entering the final round and shot five strokes better than the Bulldogs in round two, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the lead Ferris State had built on the first day…Sophomores Caitlin Bennett and Caitlin Duval both tied for fifth place overall with a score of 152…Sophomore Ashley Smith recorded a 153, which tied her for eighth place as she had a 77 on Friday and a 76 on Saturday… Grand Valley State dominated the Findlay William Bing Beall Fall Classic, finishing the tournament with a winning score of 602…The Lakers shot a 298 on Sunday and a 304 on Monday to win the invitational by 20 strokes over second place Ferris State…Four of GVSU’s five golfers finished in the top ten…Sophomore Ashley Smith won the tournament by firing a three over par, 147…Smith recorded a one under par 71 on Sunday and finished with a 76 on Monday… Sophomore Caitlin Bennett tied for second place with a 150…Freshman Kristina Langton shot a 75 and a 76 for a two round score of 151, which was good for fourth place…Sophomore Caitlin Duval finished in eighth place overall with a 154…The Lakers conclude their fall season at The Shootout in Franklin, Ind. on Oct. 8-9.

Mercyhurst College
Lakers

  The Mercyhurst women’s golf team competed this week in the Findlay Fall Classic. The Lakers finished 11th after day two and were led again by junior Caitlin Cummings. The Lakers turned in a team total of 361(+73) on day one and 363(+75) on day two. Lakers’ leader Cummings shot a 80 (+8) on Sunday and an 89 (+17) on Monday. Following Cummings in the standings was junior Kaitlin Brody who finished in 48th place, junior Alanna Kirwan (55th), sophomore Alex Spoerndle (62nd), and freshman Arielle Chong (65th). Brody, Kirwan, and Spoerndle all improved by at least two shots from Sunday to Monday. The women’s golf team returns home to play conference rival Gannon on Sunday.

Timberwolves
   The Northwood University women’s golf team placed sixth at the Northwood Invite Saturday afternoon (Sept. 29)... The Timberwolves shot team scores of 330-345 at the Currie West and East Course, each of which played as par 72’s. Ferris State was the overall winner at 605, followed by Grand Valley at 611... The Timberwolves were led by sophomore Lotte Voermans (Tilburg, Netherlands). She shot rounds of 80 and 81 to finish in a tie for 18th overall. Paige Molner (Corunna, Mich.) tied for 22nd at 166 (78-88). Simone DeSouza of California (PA) defeated Raquel Hansen of Ferris State in a playoff to earn the individual title after both players finished at 148 overall... NU placed sixth out of 11 teams at the William Bing-Beall Classic Monday afternoon (October 1)... The two-day event was hosted by the University of Findlay and held at the Sycamore Springs Golf Course, a 5,907 yard par 72... The Timberwolves shot team scores of 335 and 340 to finish at 675. Grand Valley was the overall winner at 602 (298-304), followed by Ferris State at 622 (311-311)... Paige Molnar (Corunna, Mich.) placed 16th overall to lead the way for the Timberwolves. She shot rounds of 77-82 to finish at 159... Northwood will complete its fall season at Gannon Oct. 7-8.
