Eagles
The Eagles won the championship last weekend at the Mercyhurst Invitational. Freshman Annie Miles (Dublin, OH/Bishop Watterson) was the medalist. She shot 150 (+6). Freshman Christine Suchy (Strongsville, OH/Florida Southern) tied for runnerup honors (155/+11). Three other AU players tied for ninth. That trio included junior Janice Greenblatt (Fairlawn, OH/Copley), freshman Melanie Fortner (Vermilion, OH) and freshman Elisa Leonard (Fairlawn, OH/Copley). The three players shot 166.

Bulldogs
Ferris State recorded its second first-place finish of the fall season by winning the 11-team Olivet Invitational with a two-round and season-best 614-stroke (+30) total on the par 73, 5,989-yard Marshall (Mich.) Country Club course. FSU tallied rounds of 306 and 308 and wound up 48 strokes in front of second-place and tourney host Olivet (662, +78)... The Bulldogs featured the top five individual performers with junior Raquel Hansen (West Olive/Grand Haven) earning medalist honors with a 152 (77-75=152) score. Junior Meghan Hunter (Dexter) claimed runner-up honors by firing a 153 (74-79=153) while junior Becky Hoffman (Gaines/Swartz Creek) registered a third-place 154 score (76-78=154). Freshman Jacqueline Benscoter (Metamorra/Lapeer West) posted a 156 (79-77=156) to garner fourth place... Ferris State’s 614 team score at the Olivet Invitational last weekend (Sept. 21-22) represented the sixth-best stroke total for 36 holes in the program’s history. FSU’s first-round 306 score at the Olivet Invite also marked a season best.

Oilers
The Oilers wrapped up the Mercyhurst College Invitational on Sunday, Sept. 23 in Erie, Pennsylvania. The Oilers placed second at the event with a two-day score of 659 (33, 326) while Ashland University took home first place with a 642 (320, 322)... The Eagles Annie Miles won the event with a 150 (74, 76) while the Oilers Stephanie Gillette claimed second after carding a 155 (78, 77)... Findlay’s Andrea Vogt was also successful at the event, taking fifth with a 159 (83, 76)... The Oilers will be back in action again on September 28-29 when they compete in the Northwood University Invitational at the Curry Golf Course in Midland, Michigan.

Gannon University
Golden Knights
The Golden Knights finished fifth out of 10 teams at the Mercyhurst Invitational last weekend in its only action of the week. Gannon was in second place after recording a 330 during Saturday’s first round, but fell to fifth place with a 361 on Sunday. The difference of 31 strokes was partly due to the fact that Jess Slonaker (Sunbury, Pa./Shikellamy), Gannon’s leading golfer, was disqualified during Sunday’s final round. Christa Cox (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) and Whitney Burkett (Los Alamos, N.M./Los Alamos) were Gannon’s top finishers. Both tied for 17th place with identical scores of 174 and identical rounds of 82 and 92. Allyssa Ferriell (25th, 86-91-177), Amanda Eckhart (29th, 90-89-179), and Tarin Fedrizzi (T31st, 92-89-181) completed Gannon’s six-member team.

Lakers
The Mercyhurst women’s golf team competed in the Mercyhurst Invitational on September 22nd -23rd. After day two, the Lakers earned a 6th place finish. The Lakers posted a team total of 354 on day one (+66) and 356 on day two (+68). Junior Caitlin Cummings led the Lakers on the links this weekend by pulling in an 82 (+10) on day one and an 80 (+8) on day two. Cummings total score of 162 earned her sixth place out of the 65 player field and her season first top ten finish. Rounding out the field for the Lakers on Sunday was junior Mattye Laurer (31st), junior Alanna Kirwan (34th), junior Kaitlin Brody (41st), senior Jenny Halinda (44th), and sophomore Alex Spoerndle (45th). The Lakers travel next Findlay, Ohio to compete on Sept. 30 and Oct. 1 in the Findlay Invitational.

Timberwolves
NU placed 10th at the Ray Wright/Screaming Eagles’ Golf Classic Monday afternoon (Sept. 24)... The two-day, 36-hole event was hosted by Southern Indiana at the Cambridge Golf Course, a 5,862 yard par-72... Northwood shot team scores of 356 and 340 to finish at 696. Southern Indiana was the overall winner at 633, followed by Indianapolis at 636. A total of 14 teams took part in the event... The Timberwolves were led by sophomore Paige Monar (Corunna, Mich.). She shot rounds of 82 and 85 to tie for 28th in the 80-player field. Rachel Walczak (Davison, Mich.) carded a two-day total of 175 (94-81), while Anna Trim (Clarkston, Mich.) shot 90-87 to finish at 177.NU will host the Northwood Invite this Friday and Saturday (Sept. 28-29).
