Eagles
The Eagles played just twice over the break and they split a pair of contests at the Florida Southern Classic, falling to Saint Leo, 74-69, and defeating the host school, 67-61. Junior guard Lisa Graue (Dayton, OH/Wayne) poured in a game-high 20 points, which ties her career high, in the win over Florida Southern. She added 5 steals and 4 rebounds and averaged 14.5 ppg. in the two games. Junior forward Lynsey Warren (Worthington, OH/Bishop Watterson) secured two double-doubles. Against Saint Leo, Warren notched 10 points and 12 boards, while she tallied 12 points and 11 rebounds against FSC. Junior forward Betsy Morrison (Gahanna, OH/Lincoln) scored 20 points on 8-for-11 shooting in the loss to Saint Leo. Morrison leads the team with 10.9 ppg. Junior guard Alethea Lamberson (London, OH) is second in scoring at 10.4 ppg. and leads the team with 52 assists. The Eagles are enjoying a +5.1 rebounding advantage over their opponents and have 49 more offensive rebounds this season than the opposition.

FSU opened up an 11-point halftime edge and held on to post an 83-73 non-conference victory over Azusa Pacific (Calif.) in the final outing of a three-game trip to California Monday (Dec. 31) afternoon in Azusa, Calif... Ferris, which had lost each of its three previous games by two points or less on the road, improved to 8-4 overall this season with the win over the nationally top 10-ranked NAIA school in the first-ever series’ meeting... Senior forward/center Rachel Folcik (Powers/Carney-Nadeau) had another outstanding game for the Bulldogs with a contest-high 34 points, 15 rebounds and six assists inside Azusa’s Felix Event Center... Folcik tallied 86 points, 52 rebounds, 13 assists and six steals in the Bulldogs’ four road games over the holiday break. She averaged 21.5 points along with 13 rebounds and 3.3 assists while shooting 52.3% (34-65) from the floor and 89.5% (17-19) at the free throw stripe. The 6-1 Folcik has presently notched a double-double effort in five of her last six outings to date this year... Ferris dropped three of four games over the holiday break with all three losses coming by two points or less against teams with one or fewer losses this campaign. Two of the setbacks came on buzzer-beating shots in the closing seconds.

Oilers
The Oilers ran their record to 6-4 on the season with three wins over the break, allowing them to match their win total from last year…Findlay defeated Marygrove 116-40, won against Georgian Court 68-51 and defeated Tiffin 67-62, all at home…The Oilers are a perfect 5-0 in Croy Gymnasium this season…In the win over Marygrove, the Oilers tied a school record for points with 116 which also happened against Urbana University on January 3, 1995…Findlay’s 76 point winning margin also broke the school of 71 set in the Oilers victory over Urbana in which they totaled 116 points while their 35 assists eclipsed the record of 33 set against Gannon on January 30, 1999…The Oilers also fell one rebound short of a tying the school record for rebounds in a game as they snatched 63 of them off the glass in the win…The record of 64 came against Urbana during the 1982-83 campaign… Junior guard Brittany Wells led the Oilers three wins over the break by averaging 14.3 points per game…Wells connected on 72.0 percent (18-of-25) of her field goal attempts in the three games and also averaged 5.0 assists, 3.0 rebounds and 2.7 steals per game.

Gannon went 1-2 during the holiday break, dropping both games at the Cruzin Classic in Miami Shores, Florida and winning at West Virginia Wesleyan … the Lady Knights moved to 5-0 all-time against West Virginia Wesleyan with a 72-66 victory on December 30 … Kim Vargas (Sterling, Va./Broad Run) averaged 15.3 points and 5.3 rebounds during the last three games … Vargas reached the 20-point plateau for the third time with 20 points at West Virginia Wesleyan, hitting 10-of-14 shots … Ashley Lowdermilk (Kensington, Ohio/Carrollton) became the 19th Lady Knight in school history to score 1,000 career points Dec. 30 at W. Va. Wesleyan … Brittany Tabron (Canton, Ohio/Canton Central Catholic) posted her third double-double of the season with 16 points and 10 rebounds at Wesleyan … Gannon has won 26 consecutive games dating back to 2005-06 when leading at halftime.

Senior forward Kim Wyngaard (Kimberly, Wisc.) set a number of career bests over the last two weeks…The forward scored a career-high 20 points against No. 11 Northern Kentucky, blocked a career-high three shots against St. Edward’s and made a career-high seven field goals in back-to-back contests against Valdosta St. and Northern Kentucky…Senior guard Erin Cyplik (St. Clair, Mich.) recorded an impressive double-double against NKU, notching 13 points and 14 rebounds in the win…Both Wyngaard and Cyplik were named to the Bahamas Sunshine Shootout All-Tournament Team...The Lakers defeated a ranked opponent for the first time this season, downing No. 11 NKU, 66-55.

The Chargers got a break from the cold weather and snow by playing two games in San Antonio, Texas over Christmas break…The team lost the opener to host St. Mary’s (Texas) 75-63 before bouncing back to post a 69-51 win over Texas A&M International …The win over TAMI was key because it marked the first time all season junior Katie Cezat did not lead the team in scoring, but the team still found a way to win by 18…In the win, sophomore Brooke Knight set new career-highs with six steals and nine assists, while adding 11 points and seven rebounds while playing all 40 minutes…Knight is averaging 35.3 minutes played per game this season…Cezat tied a career-high with 15 rebounds vs. St. Mary’s…Cezat has grabbed at least eight rebounds in all 11 games this season…Junior Claire Aubrey scored a career-high 12 points in the win over TAMI Dec. 20…Aubrey is second on the team with 55 rebounds this season, an average of five per game…Hillsdale will try to sweep Ashland for the second year in a row when the two teams meet Thursday…Ashland had won six straight over Hillsdale before the 2006-07 season, and the Chargers are 3-0 vs. the Eagles since then..

LSSU finished 2-2 during a recent four-game road stretch that included trips to Minnesota and Midland, Mich….Last weekend, the Lakers lost 84-61 to Bellarmine and defeated St. Joseph’s 77-48 to go to 3-3 for the season against Great Lakes Valley Conference opponents…LSSU endured back-to-back second-half collapses, getting outscored 47-24 by St. Cloud State on Dec. 22 and 59-28 by Bellarmine on Dec. 29, but the Lakers out-scored St. Joseph’s in the second half, 36-27…Senior Shalyn Beauchamp (Rock, Mich.) totaled 14 points and 10 rebounds against St. Joseph’s to record her second double double of the season… Junior Jackie Armstrong (Haslett, Mich.) averaged 13.5 points and 4.3 rebounds per game to lead LSSU during its recent four-game road stretch. Armstrong is averaging 11.6 ppg for the season.

With wins over West Virginia Wesleyan, New York Institute of Technology, and Lock Haven, Mercyhurst posted a three-game win streak for the first time since December of 2005…The Lakers made 28-of-57 (49 percent) three-pointers in the victories, including a season-high 12 three-pointers in the win over NYIT, the highest single game total for a Mercyhurst team since 2001…Freshman Amy Achesinski continues to impress, averaging 13.3 points and 6.0 rebounds per game, while shooting 67 percent from the field. She ranks in the top four in the GLIAC in scoring, rebounding and field-goal percentage…Another freshman, Samantha Loadman, scored a career-high 16 points in the win over LHU, making 4-of-5 three-pointers. She made 9-of-14 three-pointers during the win streak.

Michigan Tech improved to 9-3 over the holidays with three home wins. The Huskies are in the midst of a five-game home stand, with contests vs. Northland Jan. 2 and Grand Valley State Jan. 5 yet to come … Sophomore Katie Wysocky (Whitefish Bay, Wis.) tallied her sixth double-double and fourth 20-point game in separate contests of Tech’s Country Inn & Suites Classic last weekend. She only played 33 minutes combined in the two victories. Wysocky averages 15.4 points and 10.1 rebounds per game on the season … Sophomore Katie Zimmerman (Green Bay, Wis./East) made the game-winning 3-pointer in a 47-44 win over MSU-Moorhead back on Dec. 21. The 5-6 guard leads the team and ranks fourth in the GLIAC in 3-pointers made with 23 … Tech won its two games in its own Country Inn & Suites Classic by an average of 46.5 points … Senior Catherine Rottier (Seymour, Wis.) scored 31 points in the last three games to run her career point total to 971. The point guard also racked up 15 assists in the three games to move into sixth all-time at Michigan Tech in assists with 315.

The Wildcats will host Grand Valley State this week on Thursday (Jan. 3) in its only action of the week…The NMU women’s basketball team played at the MTU Classic after Christmas…The team had its two highest scoring outputs of the season with 91 points against Finlandia and 88 against Marygrove … NMU made 10 three-pointers against Finlandia for a season high…NMU had a season-high 60 rebounds against the Lions, it is the second time NMU has had over 60 rebounds in a game in the past year….NMU held Marygrove to three field goals in the first half…Everyone who took the court against Marygrove scored as Kellie Rietveld led the way with 18 points off the bench… Angie Leckson had a double-double against Finlandia with 14 points and 10 rebounds…Allison Carroll leads the team in points with 15.0 ppg as Kelsey Deacon is next at 11.9 ppg.

Northwood went 1-2 over the break against the GLVC, defeating Saint Joseph’s while falling to Wisconsin-Parkside and Bellarmine … NU is now 7-4 on the season … Northwood’s offense continued to show great improvement from last season, scoring 86 points in each of their last two games … for the season, Northwood is now averaging 77.1 points per game, tops in the GLIAC … in their 89-86 loss to Bellarmine, Northwood scored the second-most points in school history in a loss … NU dropped a 91-89 contest to Hillsdale in the 2002-03 season … Megan Starnes (Mt. Pleasant, Mich.) played well for the Timberwolves over the break, averaging 17.3 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game … she matched her career-high with 24 points against Bellarmine, connecting on a career-high four 3-pointers … Jodi Ostergren (Midland, Mich./Dow) shot 68.2 percent from the floor while averaging 15.2 points and 6.3 rebounds per game over the break

The Cardinals finished off the year in style, winning two straight road games at Southern Indiana (69-63) and Lewis (64-63)…the wins improved the Cardinals to 6-5 on the season…senior Kara Kinzer (Shelby Twp., Mich./Utica Eisenhower) hit a three-pointer at the buzzer against Lewis to give the Cardinals the lead and the win…LaTille Ross (Opelika, Ala./Alabama St.) set a career high with 27 points in the Cardinals’ win at Southern Indiana … Brittany Burns (Saginaw, Mich./Alabama St.) set a career highs with eight assists at Southern Indiana and 11 rebounds at Lewis … Ross made a living from the charity stripe over the weekend, going 20-24 from the free throw line in the last two games…Ross currently ranks fourth in the GLIAC in points per game (16.1) and eighth in rebounds per game (7.1)…junior Tricia Everett (Saginaw, Mich./Swan Valley) is averaging 6.4 assists per game, good for second best in the GLIAC…Everett also ranks fourth in the GLIAC in steals per game (2.64)…Kinzer currently leads the GLIAC in most three-pointers made with 30 and an average of 2.7 three-point field goals per game.

WSU trailed by only seven with five minutes remaining against 11th-ranked Northern Kentucky on Dec. 20 before the Norse went on an 11-3 run over a three minute period … junior guard Joy Nash (Muskegon, Mich.) scored 13 points in the opening half vs. NKU on 5-of-8 shooting including 3-of-4 on three pointers to keep the Warriors within four at the break (33-29) … in the Dec. 29 win over Temple Baptist College, WSU missed the NCAA Division II all-time winning margin by three points with its 119 point triumph (132-13) … the Warriors 58 field goals made were four shy of the NCAA mark of 62 set by Norfolk State on Nov. 20, 1990, against Fayetteville State … Wayne State recorded the second most assists ever in a game with 41… WSU’s 76 first half points were the fifth most points ever in a half in an NCAA Division II women’s basketball contest … the Warriors recorded 35 steals, which is tied-for-third most in an NCAA Division II game … Wayne State’s previous record for points in a game was 110 versus Rochester College on Dec. 18, 1998.
