Ashland closed out its season with a loss in the GLIAC Championship game against host Michigan Tech on Saturday night…the Eagles advanced to their third conference title game in program history; AU has never won the league crown…the 19 victories left Ashland one win short of a fourth 20-win season in the past five years…AU recorded a five-win increase over last year’s 14-13 record, while the Eagles graduate just one player - senior Elizabeth O’Brien (Mansfield, OH/IUPUI). O’Brien averaged 6.8 ppg. and 3.3 rpg., playing in all 30 games...Ashland’s first victory next year will be head coach Sue Ramsey’s 300th collegiate win. Ramsey is 299-289 overall in 21 years…sophomore guard Lindsey Gaut (Navarre, OH/Fairless) and Betsy Morrison (Gahanna, OH/Lincoln) were named to the All-GLIAC Tournament team…the Eagles totaled a 12-5 record in the seasons’ final 17 games…junior guard Lisa Graue (Dayton, OH/Wayne), who was named to the GLIAC All-Defensive team for the second time in her career tallied 82 steals, which is the most at AU since 1997-98…she also finished second on the team in blocks (22)…Ashland will return a stellar junior class next season led by Graue and Morrison; both were named to the All-GLIAC South Division second team this year.

Bulldogs
The Ferris State University women’s basketball squad saw its season come to an end Sunday (March 9) evening as the Bulldogs were not among the teams chosen to compete in the 2008 NCAA Division II Tournament as announced live over the internet via the national selection show. Ferris was listed seventh in the latest NCAA-II Great Lakes Regional Rankings prior to this past Friday’s (March 7) 56-45 loss to Ashland in the GLIAC Tournament Semifinals at Houghton, Mich. FSU wrapped up the season with a 17-12 overall record this campaign and placed tied for third in the GLIAC North Division with a 11-7 league mark. The Bulldogs defeated Northwood 93-89 on the road in the GLIAC Tournament Quarterfinals last Saturday (March 1) in Midland before dropping Friday’s semifinal contest. The Bulldogs lose three seniors from this season’s squad in All-America forward/center Rachel Folcik (Powers/Carney-Nadeau) along with guards Sam Johns (Allendale) and Katie Loosvelt (Trenton/Carlson). Folcik, who was hampered by a stress fracture the last three weeks of the season, concluded her career only 16 points shy of tying Lucy DeMartin’s school-record total of 1,721 points at FSU. This past week, Folcik was named to the WBCA All-Great Lakes Region First Team and chosen among 40 finalists for WBCA All-America kudos.

Huskies
Michigan Tech won its fourth GLIAC Tournament championship last Saturday (March 8). The program’s four titles have come in 2008, 2001, 1999 and 1993. The Huskies received the sixth seed in this week’s NCAA Great Lakes Regional at Springfield, Mo. Tech is making its 13th trip to the NCAA Tournament - all of which have come since 1991. This year’s trip to the national tournament will be very similar to the Huskies’ last appearance when they were the No. 6 seed in Springfield. Tech faced Northern Kentucky in that tournament, and was defeated, 67-66, on a last-second shot. Senior Catherine Rottier (Seymour, Wis.) dished out a GLIAC Tournament record-tying 12 assists in Tech’s 81-53 win over Ashland. The 5-8 point guard owns a school record 180 assists this season and 430 for her career. She needs just 10 more to become the school’s career assist leader. Rottier was named MVP of the GLIAC Tournament. Michigan Tech made 14-of-19 3-pointers last Saturday to set a new GLIAC Tournament record for 3-point percentage (73.7) and tie the record for 3-pointers made ... Tech improved to 23-15 in GLIAC Tournament games . Sophomore Katie Wysocky (Whitefish Bay, Wis.) earned GLIAC All-Tournament team honors after posting 46 points and 26 rebounds in three tournament games. The 6-0 forward has tallied 484 points (fifth most in school history) and 294 rebounds (school record) this season - good for averages of 16.1 points and 9.8 rebounds. Sophomore Tara Ferris (Hartland, Wis./Waukesha Catholic Memorial) scored a career-high 20 points in last Saturday’s GLIAC Championship game and was named to the all-tournament team . Freshman Lucy Dernovsek (Holcombe, Wis. /Lake Holcombe) turned in a career-best 18 points vs. Ashland last Saturday to beat her previous career high of 13.

Warriors
Wayne State’s 2007-08 campaign end last Friday with an 83-62 setback at 25th-ranked Michigan Tech in a GLIAC semifinal contest … the 15 victories is the most in five seasons, while the Warriors made their second GLIAC semifinal berth in the last six years … senior Nicole Rogers (Lansing, Mich./Everett) had 148 rebounds to lead the team in that category for the third straight year, joining Sarah Warnke (1996-97 through 1998-99) as the only players in school history to lead the squad in rebounding three consecutive seasons … Rogers’ 633 career rebounds ranks fifth all-time at WSU … junior Jasmine McCall (Detroit, Mich./CMA) recorded three steals vs. MTU increasing her season total to 101, the highest mark for any WSU player since 1984-85 (Lisa Gentry had 101) … sophomore Lindsey West (Royal Oak, Mich./Kimball) blocked two shots vs. the Huskies giving her 30 on the season, the third-highest single-season mark in WSU history … junior Chastidy Miller (White Lake, Mich./Waterford Kettering) made 42 of 110 shots from beyond the arc for 38.2 percent, the eighth-best single-season mark … Miller will enter her senior year second in career free throws made (300) and third in career free throws attempted (407) … junior Joy Nash (Muskegon, Mich.) was named to the GLIAC South Division All-Defensive team for the second straight year … McCall became WSU’s first South Division First Team All-Star since Jodi Young and Ebony Vincent were both named following the 2003-04 season. Senior Monique George (Detroit, Mich. /Cass Tech) was named to the GLIAC All-tournament team, the first Warrior so honored since Jessica King in 2003.
