The Eagles dropped a pair of road contests this week, their first losses on the road since falling to Gannon on Jan. 12. AU had won five straight games, including four consecutive wins over GLIAC North Division opponents…head coach Sue Ramsey goes for her 200th career victory at Ashland this week against Gannon and Mercyhurst. She has 294 victories in her 21 seasons as a collegiate head coach…the Eagles are the lone team in the GLIAC without a player in the top-20 in scoring. Junior guard Lisa Graue (Dayton, OH/Wayne) went into last week ranked 21st with 12.0 ppg…Ashland returns to Kates Gymnasium for three of its final four regular season games, including the next three against Gannon, Mercyhurst, and Wayne State. AU’s season finale will be at Findlay and will more than likely help determine seeding for the GLIAC tournament. Graue has 63 steals this season – that total has only been topped twice since 1997-98, including once by Graue in 2005-06, as she had 74 steals in her freshman campaign.

Bulldogs
Ferris State senior All-America forward/center Rachel Folcik (Powers/Carney/Nadeau) helped the Bulldogs get back on track with a pair of victories this past weekend at FSU’s Jim Wink Arena in Big Rapids, Mich. The 6-1 Folcik had an outstanding game Saturday (Feb. 9) as the Bulldogs upset 20th-ranked Michigan Tech 70-58 in a key GLIAC North Division contest. She tallied a game-high 32 points on 14-of-20 (.700) shooting and added eight rebounds with two blocked shots as FSU moved within a game of the Huskies’ atop the divisional standings. Folcik scored 11 of her game-high 32 points in the final six minutes as the Bulldogs outscored the Huskies 24-8 in the last eight minutes of the contest to secure the win. The 6-1 Folcik totaled 19 of her 32 points in the final half as the Bulldogs fought back from a 36-28 halftime deficit.

Oilers
The Oilers lost a pair of road GLIAC games last week, losing 67-46 to Saginaw Valley State and then 75-73 to Northwood …Sophomore guard Audra Mihalic led the Oilers by averaging 12.0 points per game in the two losses…Against Northwood, the Oilers had a chance to win at the buzzer but a shot missed the mark…Sophomore forward Megan Sellers grabbed a season-high 11 rebounds against the Timberwolves…Findlay had no double digit scorers against Saginaw Valley State, the only time that has happened this season…Findlay got 32 points off the bench in the loss to Northwood.

Golden Knights
The Lady Knights ended a four-game home stand last week with losses to Hillsdale (83-47) and Wayne State (70-67) … it marked the program’s first back-to-back home losses since it dropped three straight December 1-8, 2005 … the 36-point loss to Hillsdale was the program’s worst at the Hammermill Center since January 3, 1998 … Brittany Tabron (Canton, Ohio/Canton Central Catholic) recorded her sixth career double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds against Wayne State … Kristina Freeman (Yonkers, N.Y./Pelham Memorial) reached the 20-point plateau for the eighth time this season with 20 markers against Wayne State, which swept Gannon for the first time since 1996-97 … Gannon dropped both games against Wayne State by a combined total of five points … the Lady Knights are 2-6 in their last eight games.

Grand Valley State’s record is now 14-9, 9-5 after splitting games with Michigan Tech (L, 60-49) and Northern Michigan (W, 63-50)…Senior guard Crystal Zick (Byron Center, Mich.) led the team in scoring for the week, averaging 15.5 points per game, while junior forward Kim Wyngaard (Kimberly, Wisc.) led the team in rebounding with 8.5 boards per game…Sophomore forward Nicole Carr (Kalamazoo, Mich.) grabbed a career-high 10 rebounds against Northern Michigan (2/7), including seven offensive rebounds…The Lakers have the top-ranked scoring defense in the GLIAC (57.6 ppg)…GVSU also ranks third in the conference in steals (10.3 spg).

Chargers
The Chargers clinched the GLIAC South Division title last week with a pair of big wins over Gannon (Thursday) and Mercyhurst (Saturday)…The Chargers won the two games by a combined 71 points, a season-high over a two-game span …Hillsdale’s two wins over Mercyhurst this season came by a combined score of 161-92, a total margin of 69 points…In Thursday’s win over Gannon, junior Katie Cezat had her third straight 30-plus point game…She crossed the 500-point barrier for the season in Saturday’s win over Mercyhurst…She is just the fourth player in school history to score 500 or more points in a single season in school history…She needs 12 points to climb into fifth place on Hillsdale’s single-season top 10 scoring list…She also needs four rebounds to move into fourth place on Hillsdale’s single-season top 10 rebounding list…One more blocked shot will give her that single-season record as well…Sophomore Kayla Whitmyer scored a career-high seven points in the win over the Lakers.

LSSU will attempt to avenge early-season home losses to its North Division rivals when it travels to Grand Valley State on Thursday and Ferris State on Saturday. GVSU won 77-66 in Sault Ste. Marie on Dec. 1, and FSU garnered an 85-76 win on Dec. 15…Freshmen guards Katherine LaPrairie and Shelle Rochon scored 15 points each to lead LSSU against GVSU, while Jaclyn Armstrong scored a season-high 24 points against FSU…LSSU will be playing its first game in 12 days when it takes on the Lakers.

Stephanie Prischak scored a career high 26 points and tied her career high with four three-pointers, but that effort alone could not stand up to the Wayne State Warriors as the Mercyhurst women’s basketball team suffered an 83-81 loss Thursday…Prischak scored 20 points in the first half to lead all scorers but Mercyhurst turned the ball over 12 times to the Warriors’ six… The Mercyhurst women’s basketball team led Hillsdale 23-21 with 6:48 left but the took over from there and handed the Lakers a 90-55 lossSaturday…Paris Pugliese led Mercyhurst with 14 points and five rebounds…Stephanie Prischak contributed 13 points and four rebounds. Samantha Loadman added nine points.

Huskies
The Huskies split their final two road games of the regular season and still remains in first place in the GLIAC North Division. MTU will finish the regular season with four home games, and are seeking their first league title since 2000-01 . Senior Catherine Rottier (Seymour, Wis.) tallied eight assists in each game last week to run her season total to 123. The 5-8 guard needs just eight more in four games to break the single-season school record of 130 - held by Elizabeth Pietila (2000-01). Sophomore Katie Wysocky (WhitefishBay, Wis.) tallied her ninth and 10th 20-point games last weekend with 20 and 21 at Grand Valley State and Ferris State, respectively. The 6-0 forward also pulled down a combined 17 rebounds to move her season rebound total to 237.

Wildcats
The Northern Michigan University women’s basketball team will face Northwood and Saginaw Valley this week as three of its final four games are at home…Last week the Wildcats dropped both games on the road at Ferris State and Grand Valley State…Allison Carroll had a game-high 24 points against the Bulldogs…NMU shot 53.8 percent from the floor in the first half against FSU and 42.6 percent for the game…Kelsey Deacon was the lone ‘Cat in double-digits against Grand Valley with 17 points…Carroll has a team-high 15.0 ppg while Deacon is averaging 12.6 ppg…Deacon leads the team in three-pointers with 52 and assists (59)…Carroll leads the team in rebounds with 129 (5.9 rpg) and blocks (21)…Newcomer, Steffani Stoeger is the top thief on the team with 52 steals.

Timberwolves
The Timberwolves went 2-0 last week and clinched their first-ever trip to the GLIAC tournament after downing Ashland and Findlay … the Northwood is now 15-7 overall, 10-4 in the GLIAC … the achievements continue to mount up for Jeff Curtis’ team … NU’s 10 GLIAC wins are the most in school history … Northwood’s victory over Ashland was the first in program history – the Timberwolves had been 0-13 against the Eagles all-time … NU also has clinched its first winning season since the 1990-91 campaign … Megan Starnes (Mt. Pleasant, Mich.) led the way for the Timberwolves, averaging 21.5 points per game while shooting 56.7 percent from the floor … She was 17-30 from the floor and perfect 8-8 from the foul line … Starnes also averaged 2.0 steals, 4.5 rebounds and 1.0 blocks per game … she scored 22 points and grabbed five rebounds to go with two blocks and two steals in NU’s win over Ashland … she then finished with 21 points, four rebounds and two steals against Findlay … Starnes currently ranks ninth in the GLIAC in scoring (14.9 ppg) and fifth in rebounding (7.3 rpg) … NU is currently one game behind Michigan Tech for first place in the North Division.

Saginaw Valley won both their games last week against Findlay and Ashland to improve its record to 11-12 overall and 4-10 in GLIAC play…the Cardinals have won three straight games by an average of 19.3 points per game…Brittany Burkhardt (West Bloomfield, Mich./Walled Lake Central) scored a career high 33 points and tied a career high with 14 rebounds in the Cardinals’ 69-51 win over Ashland…Burkhardt’s 33 points tied Brittany Burns (Saginaw, Mich./Alabama St.) for most points by a Cardinal player this season…Burkhardt moved to seventh place in the GLIAC in rebounds per game (6.9)…Burns led the Cardinals with a game high 20 points in the win over Findlay…Tricia Everett (Saginaw, Mich./Swan Valley) continues to lead the GLIAC in assists per game (6.7) and minutes played per game (38.57)…Kara Kinzer (Shelby Twp., Mich./Utica Eisenhower) leads the GLIAC in three-pointers made this season (62)…Kinzer was honored prior to the Cardinals’ win against Ashland for being the leading three-point shooter in SVSU history with 203 three-point field goals for her career…LaTille Ross (Opelika, Ala./Alabama St.) ranks sixth in the GLIAC in points per game (16.1) and tenth in rebounds per game (6.6).

The Warriors have won six of its last seven games, including three of four road games to move into second place in the GLIAC South Division … in Saturday’s win at Gannon, WSU had its second-best shooting day of the season making 52 percent (29-of-56) from the floor … junior Jasmine McCall (Detroit, Mich./CMA) scored 30 points in the win over the Lady Knights becoming the third different Warrior this year to have a 30-point game … McCall’s 14 field goals made were also a season-high for WSU … Wayne State’s two highest-scoring conference games have been versus Mercyhurst (93 on Jan. 26 and 83 on Feb. 7) … junior guard Joy Nash (Muskegon, Mich.) tied her career-high with 10 assists in the win at Mercyhurst … junior Chastidy Miller (White Lake, Mich./Waterford Kettering) had her streak of double-digit games end at Gannon at six (including four with at least 20 points.
