BAY CITY, Mich. -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly awards following the seventh weekend of the 2017 volleyball season. Northern Michigan senior right side Madison Whitehead earned GLIAC Volleyball North Division honors, while Grand Valley State junior middle blocker Staci Brower captured South Division accolades.
NORTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Madison Whitehead, Northern Michigan
Northern Michigan senior right side Madison Whitehead posted a team-best 43 kills and added 14 total blocks as she led the Wildcats to a 2-1 showing at the Midwest Region Crossover, tying for the best record among the GLIAC this weekend. Whitehead averaged 3.58 kills per set for the week along with a .306 hitting percentage and 1.17 blocks per set. The Wildcats earned victories over Walsh and McKendree with their lone defeating coming to Rockhurst in five sets.
SOUTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Staci Brower, Grand Valley State
Grand Valley State junior middle blocker Staci Brower led the Lakers to a 2-1 weekend at the 2017 Midwest Region Volleyball Crossover with victories over Illinois-Springfield and Indianapolis, while suffering its lone defeat at the hands of the top-ranked team in country, Lewis. Brower averaged 2.92 kill per set, while hitting at a clip of .329 including six service aces. She posted 35 kills on the week while committing just eight errors.
