Daktronics, Inc. All-Midwest Region Volleyball Team Announced
INDIANAPOLIS– Lewis University senior Stephanie Sagat was
named the 2009 Daktronics, Inc. Division II Midwest Region Player
of the Year in a vote by the region’s sports information
directors.
Sagat was also named the Great Lakes Valley Conference’s
Player of the Year after leading the Flyers to a stellar 32-5
overall record, including a perfect 14-0 conference mark. The
Darien, Ill. native led the Flyers to three GLVC titles in her time
at LU before finishing her collegiate career with 1,676 kills, a
new Lewis record.
Sagat is one of seven players on the All-Midwest Region First
Team, including fellow outside hitters Lyndsay Callahan of the
University of Indianapolis, and Ashlee Crowder of Hillsdale
College. Other first-team selections included middle hitters Clara
Leutheuser
of Hillsdale and Weslie Gaff of Missouri-St. Louis, setter Cheneta
Morrison of Indianapolis, and libero Kyleigh Turner, also of
UIndy.
An eight-team All-Midwest Region Second Team was also compiled,
featuring outside hitters Brittany Snider of Ashland, Maggie
McGovern of Rockhurst, and Sarha Gosselin of Wayne State. Middle
hitters Kim Nemcek of Northern Kentucky and Sara deBuhr of Lewis
also received a second-team nod, along with setter Rachel Ruedi of
Lewis and libero Sydney Dow of Hillsdale.
Hillsdale, Indianapolis and Lewis led the way with three honorees,
with UIndy’s all grabbing first-team accolades.
Ashland’s Brittany Snider was the only freshman.
