GVSU & SVSU Advance at NCAA D-II Midwest Region Volleyball Tournament

Allendale, Mich. -- Grand Valley State University and Saginaw Valley State University each defeated GLIAC foes en route to the 2008 NCAA Division II Midwest Region Tournament semifinals on Friday.

The Cardinals defeated Michigan Technological University, 3-0, on Friday afternoon (25-17, 25-23, 25-20).  SVSU was led in the match by a double-double performance by senior outside hitter Sarah Redoute (Clinton Township, Mich.) who had 14 kills and 10 digs. Junior setter Kait Harris (Essexville, Mich.) had a solid afternoon for the Cardinals turning in another double-double with 36 assists and 11 digs.

The Lakers managed a 3-0 victory over league-rival Northwood University.  Senior MB Danielle Alexander led the way for Grand Valley State with match highs of 11 kills and three block assists. Junior Whtiney Tremain followed with eight kills, a .467 hitting percentage, and a pair of block assists. Senior Lauren Reber added six kills and nine digs for GVSU.

Nothern Michigan University had its season ended by the University of Indianapolis in a tough five-set match, 3-2.  Five ‘Cats had over 10 kills in the match. Leading the way was Mandie Meyer with 15 kills as she was followed by Caryn VanBeckum (12), Daniela Bezerra (11), Katt Garvick (10) and Emma Wolfe (10). 

SVSU will face Northern Kentucky University in the first semifinal match at 5 p.m. on Saturday.  NKU posted a 3-0 win over league-for and Great Lakes Valley Conference champion Lewis University (Ill.).  GVSU will face Indianapolis in the second semifinal at 7:30 p.m.
