Bay City, Mich. -- Grand Valley State's Monica Kinney (Walker, Mich./West Catholic) and Kellie Kieren (Grant, Mich.) have been named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Women's Indoor Track and Field "Athletes of the Week", respectively as announced by the league office.

Track Athlete of the Week
Monica Kinney ~ Grand Valley State University
Freshman ~ Walker, Mich./West Catholic
Freshman Monica Kinney took first place in the mile at the
Grand Rapids Open, finishing in a time of 4:49.96. She had
previously provisionally qualified with a time of 4:59.38 and now
automatically qualifies after dropping nearly 10 seconds. She ranks
fifth in Division II in the mile and seventh in the 800-meter with
a time of 2:12.07.
Field Athlete of the Week
Kellie Kieren ~ Grand Valley State University
Senior ~ Grant, Mich.
Senior Kellie Kieren improved her provisionally qualifying height
in the pole vault by winning the event at the Grand Rapids Open
with a vault of 3.77 meters (12-4.5). Kieren now ranks 10th in
Division II in the event heading into the conference championships.
