Northwood Advances to NCAA-DII Women's Tennis Championship Quarterfinals

BAY CITY, Mich - Northwood University advances to the NCAA-DII Women's Tennis Championship Quarterfinals after defeating Queens (N.Y.) 5-1. Northwood will face BYU-Hawaii on Thursday, May 13 at 9 am ET.

The Timberwolves opened the match by winning the first two matches of the day at the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles positions.  Queens bounced back to earn a win at No. 1 doubles to send the match to singles with Northwood leading 2-1.

The bottom of the Northwood lineup came through big in singles, as Northwood won straight-set matches at the No. 4, 5 and 6 positions to clinch the victory.  NU was winning at the No. 3 position as well and was even at the No. 1 slot when the remaining matches were halted.

#28 Grand Valley State Universtiy's season came to an end in the NCAA-II Round of 16 after they dropped a 5-0 decision to California (Pa.). GVSU fell behind early 3-0 by dropping all three-double matches, 8-0, 8-1, and 8-2. California went on to win the No. 1 and No. 6 singles to finalize the 5-0 win. The Lakers finish their season with a record of 22-9 and was the first time in the program's history advancing to the round of 16.

The top-finisher for GVSU this year was Darylann Trout at 22-4 at the No. 4 singles, followed by Chelsea Johnston at 19-7 in No. 2 singles. In doubles, Trout and Johnston collected a record of 21-9 in the No. 1 spot, while Tara Hayes and Katelyn Schaffer were 18-10 at No.2 and Rachel Rendina and Jackie Shipman 11-7 in the No. 3 spot.
