Northwood Women's Tennis Team Falls In NCAA D-II Quarterfinals With 5-0 Loss To BYU-Hawaii

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. - In a battle of top-20
teams, the No.3-ranked BYU-Hawaii women's tennis team blanked No.
16-ranked Northwood (MI) 5-0, Thursday morning in quarterfinal
action of the 2010 Women's Tennis National Championships, from the
Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Fla.
The win secures the Seasiders a spot in the semifinals, while
Northwood is eliminated from the tournament.
BYU-Hawaii opened up their impressive performance with a 3-0 sweep
of doubles action. Leading the charge for the Seasiders was the No.
1 duo of Yuan Jia and Elwen Li as they posted an 8-0 shutout of
Stephan and Kobayshi. Meanwhile, the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles
tandems also had solid outings. The No. 2 team of Ayako Ikeda and
Shawni Porter outlasted Berkova and Goujet 8-2, while Jenny Chin
Salina Aranda matched their teammates with an identical score at
No. 3 doubles.
Singles action saw more of the same from the Seasiders, as they
posted a pair of straight set victories. Li grabbed the fourth
point of the match with her 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles, while
Jia ousted Berkova 6-3, 6-1 at the No. 1 slot.
With the match secured, the remaining contests went
unfinished.
Third ranked BYU-Hawaii will take on No. 4-ranked Lynn on Friday,
May 14 in NCAA Semifinals action. First serve is set for 9:00 a.m.
at the Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Fla.
