GVSU Advances to NCAA D-II Women's Soccer Regional Final

BAY CITY, Mich. -  The #5 Grand Valley State University Lakers claimed a 3-0 win over Quincy University (Ill.) on Sunday afternoon (Nov. 14) to advance to the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Championship match this Friday (Nov. 19).

Grand Valley State Lakers

The #5 Grand Valley State Lakers claimed a 3-0 win over Quincy on Sunday afternoon (Nov. 14) to advance to the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Championship match. The Lakers had three different players record goals and improved their record to 18-1-2 in overall play this year. Sophomore forward Ashley Botts (Beloit, Wis.) recorded a goal and two assists for a total of four points in the win, while sophomore Kayla Addison (Southfield, Mich.) and senior Jaleen Dingledine (Newaygo, Mich.) notched a goal and junior Erin Mruz (Gurnee, Ill.) recorded an assist. GVSU outshot the Lady Hawks by a 21-10 advantage, including a 9-5 margin in shots on goal. Goalkeeper Chelsea Parise (Warren, Mich.) notched five saves in the match and recorded her 13th shutout on the year. The tough Grand Valley backline claimed its 17th shutout victory and have yet to give up a goal at home this season. Addison is first on the team with 18 goals and 44 points, while Botts and Dingledine are tied for second with 11 goals. The Lakers will host Wisconsin-Parkside on Friday, Nov. 19 at 1:30 p.m. at the GVSU Soccer Fields.

 

Northern Michigan Wildcats

The NMU soccer team capped off the 2010 campaign with its first ever tri[p to the NCAA Tournament where the Wildcats lost to Northern Kentucky (4-0)…Dana Stephens ends the season with a team-high 11 goals…Kari Buckel ends the season with six assists to lead the team..Jessica Baker in goal had a record of 7-4-5 with three shutouts, a 1.03 goal-against average and a .861 save-percentage.

Tiffin Dragons

Tiffin University (12-6-2) fell in a close battle with Quincy University (14-4-3) 1-0 in NCAA Midwest Regional action played at Grand Valley State University... The Dragons and Quincy took shots at each other throughout the first half, with Quincy controlling most of the action in a scoreless half. Quincy held a 6-2 edge in shots, with TU managing no shots on goal... Quincy finally got on the board in the 75th minute, when Becky Fleming took the ball across the middle and knocked home a shot from 20 yards out to give her team the edge with 15 minutes to play... Tiffin managed two shots on goal in the remaining time, with Lauren Bowyer putting a shot on target in the 82nd minute and Shelly Rogers getting off a shot in the 90th minute, but saves were made to secure the win for Quincy... Denise Resende took the loss in goal, playing 90 minutes and making 6 saves.
