BAY CITY, Mich. - The No. 3 Lakers advanced to the NCAA Midwest Regional Championship for the fifth consecutive season and will play Friday Nov. 20 against Northern Kentucky.

Grand Valley State Lakers (19-0-3, 13-0-1 GLIAC)

The No. 3 Lakers advance to the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Championship with a 1-0 win over Bellarmine. GVSU is still undefeated this season with a record of 19-0-3 and picked up its 13th shutout victory. In the win over the Knights, senior defender Natalja Stanski (Tecumseh, Ont.) recorded the lone goal for the Lakers off of a penalty kick…Grand Valley State outshot Bellarmine by a 25-4 margin, including an 11-2 advantage in shots on goal. Goalkeeper Chelsea Parise (Warren, Mich.) picked up her 10th shutout victory and recorded two saves in the match. Freshman Ashley Botts (Beloit, Wis.) leads the team with 13 goals and 31 points, while sophomore Erin Mruz (Gurnee, Ill.) has a team-high 14 assists. The Lakers advance to their fifth consecutive NCAA Midwest Regional Championship and will face Northern Kentucky on Friday Nov. 20.

 

 

Saginaw Valley State Cardinals (14-3-3, 10-1-2 GLIAC)

The Saginaw Valley State University women’s soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to #24-ranked Quincy University in Midwest Regional action this past weekend. The lone goal on the evening came when Quincy’s Brittany Casey scored at the 14:11 mark in the first half. The shot chart was even, as SVSU was only out-shot by one, 11-10 for the contest, but was only able to get two of the shots on-goal. Renee Privette (Port Huron, Mich.) had three shots for SVSU. The loss concludes the record-setting season for the Cardinals, as they finish with a 14-3-3 overall record.
