SAN ANGELO, Texas --- Undefeated University of West Florida placed five first team selections, including the National Player of the Year, and two second team picks as the Daktronics NCAA Division II Women’s Soccer All-America Teams were announced on Tuesday.
Junior forward Shakira Duncan was honored as the recipient of the Ron Lenz National Player of the Year Award and was joined on the first team by senior forward Shaneka Gordon, last year’s Player of the Year, senior midfielders Dernelle Mascall and Marcelo Franco and senior defender Shameka Gordon. Both Gordon sisters and Franco were repeat first team selections this fall. UWF added senior goalkeeper Courtney Jones and senior defender Kaley Morris on the second team.
Duncan, a 5-5 native of Kingston, Jamaica, leads NCAA D-II with 32 goals entering this weekend’s national semifinals. She adds 12 assists for a division-best 77 points. Duncan was named first team All-Gulf South Conference and was named to the league’s All-Tournament Team before collecting Daktronics South Regional Player of the Year honors.
Another national semifinalist,
Grand Valley State, had two first team picks in senior defender
Natalja Stanski, a repeat selection from last
year, and sophomore defender Megan Brown. Other
first team selections were freshman goalkeeper Lyndsie Bernardini
from West Chester, senior forward Kristin Burton from Armstrong
Atlantic State, senior forward Kayla Mitchell from Colorado Mines,
senior midfielder Gabriela Demoner from Franklin Pierce, freshman
midfielder Elizabeth Hawes from Lenoir-Rhyne and sophomore defender
Courtney Ryan from Metropolitan State.
